Let's say, hypothetically (and by that I mean actually) I'm grinding those Spell Thiefs in Blade's Edge for the Spell Damage enchant. It's a BOP pattern and only enchanters can see it. My second character is an enchanter, but my main is not. If I leave it on FFA loot will my main be able to see it it? Or will I have to check on Two's screen to see if there is loot? Or should I switch to a different loot setting altogether?

Apparently the answer is yes. I was starting to get nervous, but the enchant clearly showed up no character One's screen even though it wasn't lootable. So I just switched over and looted. And now I can enchant major spellpower to weapon. Woot.

Blizzard changed that recently. Thanks for confirming that it actually works. Perhaps now I will less frequently sit bolt upright in bed in the middle of the night with a cold sweat saying "OH FUCK!"

But I've also played long enough to know that what Blizz puts in their patch notes is not always how things work in practice. I was having bad luck with the drop, so I was starting to be afraid that I just couldn't see it cause it was on FFA or some random thing. And, either way, I figured I might as well post here to confirm that it works.

Well this is not always be true, I run on FFA and just last week my main could not see the boots +sta enchant from Mana Tombs, nor could anyone other than my enchanter. I only knew that it dropped because my comp locked up and I wiped just past the 2nd boss, and noticed on the run-back that the one corpse hadn't disappeared.

When I was questing in BEM on the mobs that drop the pattern my main saw the drop on a corpse and was not the enchanter. It was set to FFA loot. I can see someone missing a bop profession drop if they are quickly autolooting. It shows up red when you loot and once the window closes you cant bring up the loot window again unless you have something lootable on it. Only the enchanter will be able to see it.

Maybe, I'm pretty sure I didn't just miss it on my main - it was my 3rd run through, and I was very carefully checking each Ethereal Priest corpse for the enchant. Shouldn't the loot window with this pattern present the BoP warning though? Other items do... Corruptor Scourgestones if you don't have your trinket equipped for example. I guarantee 100% that if Enchant Boots - Fortitude gives a a BoP warning for people who can't loot it, there is no way I just overlooked it on my main.
I suppose it's possible I just overlooked it somehow, though, if it doesn't give the BOP warning. I'll keep a closer look this weekend in SV for the bracer enchant off the Oracles.

Well a similar example is when you are in a master loot raid. You can autoloot the corpse to get your badges and junk loot and all the master loot will be red since you are ineligible to loot it. You never get a BOP dialog in that scenario, and once you close the loot window you can't open it again only the master looter will have sparklies.

I just want to add to this thread that I killed over 1500 of those priests in Mana Tombs using my Druids to stealth in and kill them and reset(feral/resto took forever to kill them) and the enchanting pattern never dropped. I have screenshots of the fubar addon that tracks the mobs you are farming around somewhere.

I go in on my Pally/Shaman team and the first priest pack I kill drops the pattern! :cursing:

Here's what I noticed, my main is not an enchanter however I had a bop enchant drop on the weekend over in SMV (+15 Arcane Resist to Cloak). Now I did see it on my main - however it was shaded all red - I usually autoloot everything without looking first but my inventory happened to be full and so it didn't pick it up but the window stayed open so I saw it anyways. The wierd part is I freed up some inventory and then went to look at the corpse again and the body was no longer sparkling and I was thinking I lost it for good - until I looked on my enchanter toons screen and saw that it was still sparkling only for him and picked it up. My enchanter is 290 skill so he can't even learn it yet either. I was using FFA looting at the time.

Another thing I noticed about FFA looting with chests - once one person opens it, nobody else can even if they close it and take nothing - the other guys don't get the gear anymore. Seems like a bug to me but I guess its a fail safe (no pun intended).

I can confirm how it works as well.

I was looting on an alt, collection quest *groan*, and BOP blacksmithing plans dropped in Netherstorm. All my characters are set to autoloot. The loot window did *not* stay open but luckily I was watching that character window at the time as I was looting with the mouse in it. The character looted the corpse, could see the pattern, and the loot window auto closed after looting. I am on free for all and my pally is the blacksmith and was the only one that could loot the corpse afterwards.

I think... i can't confirm but based on what i've seen in raids... if you have a master looter he will see it.

that is correct and as of now (patch 2.4) everyone can see all the loot but only the ML can interact with it (including patterns)

Also, if set to FFA the item still appears on the corpse but only the enchanter (or whatever profession your getting the pattern for) will be able to a) interact with it and b) get any kind of bop confirmation message.
