View Full Version : Set Affinity Everytime?!?

Do I really have to reset the Affinity of my WoW instances to utilize all 4 processors everytime I start the game?
Anyone know of a way for Windows to save affinity settings or a batch script to set the WoW instances to use all 4 processors instead of just the first 2? (seems like a stupid default to me, to just use 2 processors)

config.wtf contains a cvar called 'setprocessoraffinity' or something similar to that. The value to assign to that cvar, just add the numbers in the parenthesis for which CPUs you want to wow to run on.
CPU0 = 0001 (1)
CPU1 = 0010 (2)
CPU2 = 0100 (4)
CPU3 = 1000 (8)
Examples:
wow running on cpu 0&1 = 1 + 2 = 3 (this appears to be the default when wow detects a multicpu/multicore system)
wow running on all cpus on a 4 cpu machine = 1 + 2 + 4 + 8 = 15
I don't give wow more than one cpu because that is plenty to handle the game at 60 fps (there are other reasons too). Here is my setup:
wow 0 runs on core0
wow 1/2 runs on core1
wow 3/4 runs on core2
core3 is not used for wow and lets my system do other things like browser, vent, im, fraps, keyclone. Fraps likes to set its processor affinity to core3 when it starts on my machine.
Edit: I don't recommend giving all instances of wow all 4 cores.

Thanks Mudd.
Game chops up and I lose Autofollow when running 5 instances off Core 0 (which is what OS and almost everything else is on) and Core 1 when I am in Shatt.
I usually open all 5 instances to Core 1, 2 and 3, while letting the OS and browser, etc run off Core 0.
I just hated having to reset it everytime!
Thanks again!

Greetings Lokked,
Here's a thread where you'll find info about the processAffinityMask in WoW, including a link to a Blue post.
[Keyclone] Keyclone on 5-boxes : recommended CPU Affinity ? ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&postID=39572&highlight=#post39572')
Hope this will help you experiment with different affinities (not necessarily through Keyclone).
