Can warlock pets tank?

I have a very fun group of 3 hunters, priest, paladin. I use the pallyas healer and my pets are tanking. I primarilyuse the group for normal dungeons and old raids/heroics.

Now I am wondering, can I make a similar combo with 3 warlocks? Can any of the warlock pets tank as good as a hunter tenacity pet? Can they manage to hold aggro even when there are groups of mobs, just as the hunter's pet can?


I've tried before but always lost aggro with my felguards on a few mobs as soon as I started to heal. Has MoP changed this in any way to improve warlock pet tanking?

My warlocks voidwalker(at least at low level) goes down so rapidly i can't even blink before he's down in dungeons. :(
Might be a different case with better gear and/or higher level ofc, especially as you get that talent with reduced damage.

But for challenge, i'd definately go with it! ;)

But voidwalker has no aoe ability or? Before cataclysm the void had an aoe threat ability, but it was removed I believe...

No, they no longer has aoe taunt. But they have a TAUNT for single targets(yes it is an actual taunt, not just a threat increase).
Basically you could set macros to attack 1 target each with 1 warlock each and there you go, 3 "tanks" on 3 mobs. ;)

Now that i think of it, they do have a shield later which deals damage whenever they are hit by anything, so there is your aoe threatholder.

I'm actually thinking of, for the fun of it, try 4 warlocks 1 retri!

yes warlock pets make ok tanks but do not work in anything in mop, Low level i would use Felguards trash and void on bosses (unless u the boss got ads)

Hunters pets on the other hand :D, am soloing 5 man hc's with 5 hunters and killed a fair few bosses (on the ptr)

Once you get that tier that lets your pets become super pets.... One void can easily tank through 80-82. I brought up 3 warlocks with a group and basicly never had to heal.

I tried running instances with 5 locks and had a hard time with my demons keeping threat.

I'm using a group of 3 warlocks, 1 shadowpriest, 1 pally healer (priest is there just so I can use the dungeon finder, otherwise I would have preferred 4 warlocks + healer).
I'm using two wrathguards + a voidlord and aggro works really fine. Pally is using Holy radiance targeting the pets and it's really nice with that aoe heal effect, all three pets are healed with one spell.

After the 5.1 patch, I spec'd to destruction with improved voidwalkers. I was amazed at the difference in void tanks! They now hold aggro! I ran stonecore (at level) up to the last boss but couldn't deal with all the adds. I cleared Vortex P (at level) with no problem at all. I fracking LOVE my warlocks now! They are what awesome sauce is made of.

Edit: The stonecore mobs are a bit (couldn't care less about your stupid voidwalkers) but targeting each one with a different void seemed to help.
