I am just joined and need 5 posts apparently so here goes number 1
I just wanted to say hi and thanks for all the posts as there is heaps of information up so big bonus there
I am an vanilla wower that used to chew up around 40 hours a week playing and it was very frustrating since in auzzie land the lag / latency just did not allow me to participate in various party of the game on the us based server... raids were a big no no and pvp was frustrating
I like to play D&D games and have been waiting for d3 but major disapppointment there; dont get me started, so thinking might give wow another go and with mists coming out should be able to pickup the warchests to right before mists for a reasonable price and give this 5 man multi a go so high end heroic instances here i come with my own 5 man team... it wont happen right away but seems like it can be done
All the best and cya around :)

on another note unsure what the go is but i clicked on a link to a guide and it is a blank page
link to the guide was on the bottom of page http://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki/index.php/FAQ_for_Non-Multiboxers
which took me to Vyndree's Guide to Guides

thanks for the welcomes...
25 would be great but i am going to start out with 5 and see how i go...
seems like my best option will be to run one box as my main / server and then 4 others on another box that i am in the process of building...
one of my main concerns is the server lag which i can not do anything about except try the oceanic servers

unsure what is happening in singapore but optus cable will not assist me and they are the fastest possible so just got to live with it as reporting the issue several times over the years does not seem to do anything...
25... your getting me too excited lol

You could look into getting an ssh tunnel set up to a place closer to your server. I use this (thru my web hosting company) when I travel overseas.
There are a few threads around about this or other ways of reducing latency. I'm on my phone so I can't search them out right now.
Edit: ssh not ssl

Take advantage of Recruit a Friend (RAF).
There are a lot of posts on that.
I'd go with a parent account (A).
Which has two refer chains (A > B > C) and (A > D > E).
If you're playing on the US servers, strongly consider a guild with a lot of boxers.
Alliance side, Kiljaedin, <Legion of Boom>.
Horde side, Magtheridon, <The Zerg>.
I believe for the EU servers it is:
Alliance, Outland, <Autobots Roll Out>.
Horde, Grim'Batol, <GIMP>.
Playing with other boxers is both fun/cool, and it can get you a bit of support both in game and knowledge.

thanks for replys
i looked at ssh tunneling a while back and they said i would need to give them the wow account password in order for it to work so that ended rather abruptly; maybe they were having me on but as soon as someone asks for passwords i am out of there
i would like to try a guild with multiboxers but oceanic servers will probably give me the best response so unsure which one to try
i might try one you suggest since i would prefer to play on a pvp server but it might be best to start on a pve with 5 shammys and learn a bit first and as you stated it would be great for learning the art of multiboxing
edit - recruit a friend... i have someone already doing that to my main account which i have not played for a while but thanks much for the tip of using it on the 4 new copies of the game i will need to purchase so i can 5 man box

Who are you going thru? I have adsl 2 with IINET and I am boxing 10 accounts with 160 ping I would not expect TPG or Telstra or Optus to do anything, IINET has there own proxy automatically setup for WoW, All I can say is use lowerping

i have optus cable... i researched it a while back and it is the best for me but that was a few years ago
i might give iinet a call if they have a proxy for wow
perhaps you are close to the exchange as the dsl signal degrades the farther you are away... from what i have been told
i will have a look at lowerping as i know nothing about that
thanks

Another problem with Cable is if other people on it in your area. If they download alot or 20 people are downloading it will make your speed slower ect
