No hardware changes at all and out of the blue Windows is only recognizing 8g of my 16g of RAM. When I run CPU-Z it shows 16g. I checked each stick individually and they are all healthy. Anyone have suggestions?
Also, post patch 5.0.4 running 10x WoW is maxing out my CPU something fierce. In game I changed it from DX11 to DX9 and that helped a little but not anywhere near where it was 3 months ago when I took a hiatus. Is there some miracle I missed after one of the earlier patches? :)
Thanks in advance!

Not sure about the 16GB becoming 8GB issue. you use Windows 7 Ultimate right ? and what MB you are using ?
5.0.4 framerate slow down is most likely add-on related (at least for me). Try disable all addons, including jamba, only leaves ISBOXer addon and see if that helps. 5.0.4 needs the new jamba (beta 3 i believe).
edit: found a forum link on tomshardware talking about this problem. No definitive answers, but there are a couple suggestions in there might be worth trying, one is changing msconfig, the other is remount CPU fan (????) http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/265341-30-windows

I've been playing around with it for 3 hours. CPU-Z shows 4 sticks of 4 gigs installed, all 4 DIMM slots fine but the resource monitor shows only 8 gigs installed. I rearranged the RAM multiple times, checked each stick manually etc etc etc. No dice. I checked the msconfig setting, no dice. My BIOS has no setting for allotting RAM to the video card.

Might have sth to do with the frequency
Are you overclocking ?
here is another person's saying
GUYS I REPORTED THIS TO ASUS. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE FREQUESNCY.
IF I SET THE RAM TO 1333MHZ IT SHOWS 12GB, AND IF SET TO 1600MHZ IT SHOWS ONLY 8GB. ANYHOW CPUZ SHOWS 12 EVERYTIME. IT BETTER TO GO WITH UPGRADING THE BIOS AND THEN SETTING THE SETTINGS PROVIDED BY ASUS SUPPORT TEAM.
can also try upgrade your MB's BIOS.

Yeah I read through all that. I upgraded the BIOS. The stuff I have is 1600. Maybe I'll manually set it to 1333 in BIOS and see if that changes anything.

Interesting, the timings I'm supposed to use as per the manufacturer for the RAM are 9/9/9/27 but CPU-Z and BIOS show that they're at 9/9/9/24. It won't let me manually change it in BIOS though. Possibly related?

Manually got it set to 9/9/9/27 but when I change it to 1600 it won't POST.

I experienced a huge performance hit as well, disabling addons and resetting gfx settings did help, but there is definately something different, the spell effects don't look the same with the same settings as before. and there is no way i should be having system lag of any kind, but i am, it did get better after the small update blizz done the other day, but it still isn't as good as it was before IMO. I'm still working on finding out what is different and how it is affecting my performance, as soon as i have something solid, i'll share it. thats jst my 2 cents on the subject, lol

leave it at 9 9 9 24, thats a better setting technically, but you'll never see the difference, also check to make sure that the voltage defaulted correctly, with ddr3 there are different voltages, for the most part all of ddr2 was the same (1.65 i think) but i have seen ddr3 go from 1.1 to 1.65 if your board picks up the XMS profile of your memory use that, if not, just let it default to w/e as long as the voltage is correct (lower is ok, higher isn't unless your o/c'ing your ram, and on sandy bridge you don't wanna do that, it can cause some major stability issues)

Does your RAM show up on the compat list for your motherboard? Worth a look at any rate.
Generally speaking, that typically indicates 4 primary failures (assuming you're using the spec settings from the manufacturer): 1) bad RAM itself, 2) bad DIMM slots on the motherboard, 3) motherboard is out of spec (due to bad components/firmware or you got one that sampled on the outer fringe of "good"), or 4) bad power supply. If you set your RAM settings to 1600 with just two sticks, will it post? How bout two sticks in the other pair of slots?
[edit] Another possibility is you overloaded one of your PSU rails, such as putting too many HDDs/SDDs on the same connector rail.

Sorry to jump into a technical talk with an old wives tale but I heard that if your Windows is not activated after 120 days it throttles some 64 bit features.
Could that be why your BIOS sees it but not Windows??

What type Motherboard is it and memory type?

I've made no hardware changes in 6 months. 3 months ago when I was 10 boxing it was showing 16 gigs, so at some point between there and now that I've come back it went from 16 to 8.
I'm using the Asus P8Z68-V LX and my RAM is on the QVL.
My UEFI BIOS doesn't see the 16 gigs either, just the 8.
I'm going to:
1. Try and see if it'll POST with 2 sticks set at 1600.
2. Try and see if it'll POST with the B channel slots filled.
And I'll report back. Thanks for all the help guys :)

It did not post with two sticks at 1600.
It did not post with the B channels filled and nothing in the A slots.
It did post with A1, A2, and B1 filled but still only showed 8 gigs with any combination of which sticks were in which of those three slots.
This all leads me to believe that my B1 and B2 DIMM slots are bad.
Thoughts?

This sounded odd to me, so I did some digging. Sorry to throw this in the middle of a technical thread, but I figured it would be better to set the record straight (at least somewhat)
Microsoft says:
If you don’t activate Windows within 30 days after installation, you will not be able to use every feature of Windows. You can regain full use of your computer by activatingWindows.
If you don't activate windows, it will put itself into a "Reduced Functionality mode"
This is for Vista, but everything I can find points to 7 being the same: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925582 Scroll to "Activities that are not available in reduced functionality mode"
With that being said, I'd say that Reduced Functionality Mode wouldn't limit any specific 64 bit features.

mosq, as far as i know most z68 boards require you to fill DIMM slot 0 reguardless of how much your using. Try populating slot 0 and slot 3 and see if it picks both of them up

I ran into this issue a while back with an ASUS P6X58D m/b and with memory on the QVL. I had purchased 4 sticks of DDR3 1600 4GB2x2 and when I had initially booted the computer it saw 16GB just fine. Then one day I had noticed when when checking my system properties it showed only 8GB. I cannot remember the specifics, but it had to do with XMP memory.
I put this memory is a different system and it worked fine, so I just purchased a different set of memory.
Like with your situation, it was working fine.... then all of a sudden it stopped recognizing the 16GB

I just tried slots 0 and 3 with no dice--It only showed the one stick of 4 gigs.
I went ahead and ordered 2 sticks of 8g corsair that'll be here tomorrow afternoon--Thanks Horus for Amazon prime. It's not on the QVL but it should plug in just fine on my P8Z68-V LX right Jsta?

It should work fine, but i'm leaning more towards your 2nd set of DIMM slots being bad. (error with southbridge) you'll know for sure when you get the new memory, but i would suggest getting an RMA for the motherboard, ASUS stands behind their products pretty well, i'd definately shoot them an email and get the ball rolling if i were you. IMO of course.

That's correct. The pairs are interleaved, so 0 goes with 2, 1 goes with 3. Can't mix and match slots unless you change the BIOS setting from dual-channel to single-channel.

I got started with the RMA. The guy was super helpful on the phone. I go on vacation in October for a week so I'll do it then :D
Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it.

Wow, RAM here already.
It's totally the two DIMM slots--As soon as I plugged the new stuff in it registered 16 gigs.
