View Full Version : Multiple BNet accounts & security

Ages ago, when I first started multi-boxing, I chose to go the separate BNet account route so I could log on in parallel, have multiple accounts on a single authenticator etc.

A couple of years back, when Blizzard decided to go with one Bnet account-one authenticator, they grandfathered all the existing multiple account-one authenticator set ups so I just ignored the change.

With the recent authenticator reset due to their poor security, however, I now find myself having to deal with the situation - or being unable to access my accounts through battle.net. By resetting & restoring the old serial number I can at least get the authenticator off my accounts, but Blizzard, in their infinite wisdom, won't even allow multiple BNet accounts to use the same phone number for SMS.

All this led me to wondering WDOMBD (what do other multi-boxers do)? How do others handle additional security or does everyone else have all their accounts under a single BNet?

PS: before someone says use multiple authentication tokens, let me add that I had the button on three of them break before moving to a mobile authenticator, so going back to that is not my favourite idea.

PPS: Raising this with Blizzard eventually got me this gem.

Well thats a weird little issue you have, we changed the functionality in that you can only have one authenticator per battle.net account about 2 years ago..If some how your authenticator was not affected by this, remove it before you update it.

If you put mobile alerts on your account, you will be able to remove this through the website by a simple text in the future. You can find more info on that here: <http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/battlenet-sms-protect>

You should have the option to click on 'Not Resolved' if you need more help. If everything has been fixed for you, feel free to close out this help ticket!

Thanks for contacting us today!

Ask them to move all your accounts onto a single bnet.

With the changes to authenticators you can log into them all after putting the code into the main one.

And there's no good reason not to with all of the account-wide benefits.

How does that affect using RAF though, especially if I want to go from 5 to 6 accounts (need more monks :)) & want to RAF boost the new toons?

I still use my keyring authenticator with the button for both my bnet accounts

It doesn't affect RaF at all, people recruit themselves all the time.

I x-fered an account the other day to my Bnet... and i still am RAF linked correctly with the account on the new one that it recruited.

@shodokan: I just want to make sure I understood you. Sent RAF invite, started new RAF account, merged new account back to main bnet account, and everything still Just Works?

Just send the RaF invite to yourself. This isn't rocket science.

I sent 4 raf invites to the same email just fine. Add them to your bnet and presto bango boxo, you have lift off....

Hi guys! I'm new to the forum and new to multi-boxing...but loving it so far. I had a very similar (but slightly different question) so I thought I 'd just post it here rather than start a new thread. I too started with 2 diff battle.net accounts, and have since recently added 4 wow accts on BN#1 and 3 acts on BN#2 for a total of 7 wow accts...reason being is because I did RAF, and I kind of messed up, so had to get two additional accts. Anyway, I hope to eventually get up to 10 total wow acts, so I can MB some raid stuff, but that is prob a bit down the road.

My question is, is there a maximum amount of wow accts that can be tied to a single Bnet acct? In other words, can I merge all 10 wow acts under one Bnet acct? With all the recent perks to account sharing, this would be ideal, but I'm just not sure if it can be done. I know there are probably some 10 boxers out there that may know the answer. Thanks!

You can have up to 8 WoW licenses per B-net account.

Ah, thanks. I'll just stick with my original plan of 5 and 5 then.

Yeah, don't know why it isn't 10 :(

And there's no good reason not to with all of the account-wide benefits.

1. You can pet battle yourself if you have separate BNet accounts
2. You have account limits if you want to merge all to 1 account.

Ah I see olibri already answered the thing about pet battles. I too am a boxer who has multiple bnet accounts and was caught in this authenticator problem. I decided to simply remove authentication from account 2 and keep all gold quantities in excess of 5000 on account 1 (the only one of my three that has this protection now) I might decide to merge later but I'd like to see how the pet battles thing shakes out.

I also wanted to say that I find the pet battle thing annoying. At no other point in the history of multiboxing has blizzard chosen to penalize players for multiboxing in any way, I know this isn't a huge design decision, but I don't want to have to worry about other ways they want to treat people paying $75 a month less than five people paying $15. Was no one else a little concerned about that decision? Or do we think its a merely technical issue?

Is it a penalty or a limitation? Seeing as pets are account bound, it's probably a limitation with the fact that you can't fight your own pets against each other.

If your using the mobile authenticator on an android based device, and said device is "rooted" you can have the same app installed more than once. i have the authenticator installed on my device 2x for 2 bnet accounts and it works just fine. since wow is the only thing i use the device for security of it isn't an issue. just my 2 cents
