Thought I would share - I finally got a hold of Blizzard last night: Despite having all the account information be mine, except for the first name on the acct (I am talking last name, email address, credit card info, etc. all in my name), Blizzard would not make the change (telling us that account names - first and last - are set in stone). As I don't want to get all 5 accts banned, I cancelled the acct and will setup a new one tonight (I had already picked up a new copy of wow predicting that this will be the result as I know Blizzard takes the account name pretty seriously regardless of whether or not you are husband and wife).

For those that play on your wife's acct (even if everything matches except the first name), I would recommend that you bite the bullet now and cancel the acct and roll a new copy before you run into any problems. I know it sucks, even if it is really your acct, but in my opinion - not worth the risk.

Edit - and the worst part for me, this has really messed up the plan for my group as I am not sure I can roll the same toon again (a druid) and level them up. May have to rethink the group makeup.

I belive you can just set up your new account and then transfer you toon to it since the last names are the same. there for you do not lose you toon.

Very true. Acct-to-acct transfers only require matching last names...a bit hypocritical of Blizzard in this situation, but yeah. Maybe ask 'em why that's fine but it's not for playing/boxing; if I can GIVE the account the character in the first place, why can't I PLAY them?

Keep in mind that the site for the character move only requires last name to be identical, but the actual policy requires BOTH. I can't say if you'd have trouble with it, but if they wanted to be anal (keep in mind your account will likely be closely scrutinized by blizzard) they could refute the transfer and take action on both accounts. I had the same thing, I was going to transfer a shaman from my brother's account - same last name, under my billing information - but decided not to for that reason.

I was worried about this very same thing...my wife doesn't play and neither does my 6 month old daughter, but for whatever reason I created an account for my wife and an account for my daughter. When I called Blizzard the guy was friendly, laughed, and said I must be planning early for the future. He said there would be no problem since the last name, address, phone number, etc. are the same. He also said he would document the call which I greatly appreciate in case there are ever any problems.

You really just need to get lucky with getting a nice person on the other end of the phone .. Some people see an account insta banned while others get everything fixed by Blizzard ...

Weird, to say the least

I ended up with no help / no ban - kind of the middle ground. I stripped all the chars the other day, will try one more time on Thursday (with Blizzard) to get it fixed and if not, then it is cancel time. I have already setup the new acct and started to level a replacement char and a new char for a 2nd team.

If I do get this fixed, I will simply transfer the main char from the acct to be canceled to my new acct and then pull the plug on it. If not, oh well - $%^& happens.
