Just planning my group composition for MoP (100% PvE Focused).
Not sure how others feel, but with the move to Cata from WoTLK, there were so many changes in talents, mechanics and the functionality of macros in general that it changed group compositions a bit. eg. Arcane Mages/Ele shamans were very easy to macro and do good DPS, on the other had, with the procs of Moonkins, that was a difficult element to incorporate into a mixed team. Also, at the start of Cata, CC was required. Teams such as my old WoTLK group that didn't have a primary healer (Pally tank, Hunter, 3 Ele Shamans) were going to be harder.
Granted it's hard to anticipate the mechanics before release (thanks all you beta players for sharing as much as possible).
My plan:
Tank: Going back to the tried and true Paladin Tank (backup will be DK tank as I heard a few snippets that they are improving, unconfirmed), Dream Scenario: Warrior Tanks become the M/B beast of tanks (Fury warrior is my favorite toon to solo-play):p
DPS: Going to have mages/hunters/shamans available to choose from, reason: 2 expansions, they worked real well in both. Dream Scenario: Moonkins make a strong comback for M/B teams
Heals: Discipline Priest (backup Holy Paladin, Resto Shaman)
Everything stated here is just an opinion, I know lots of folks who have gotten all the different dps and tank classes to work very effectively in Cata. This is just my personal observation from first hand experiences. I remember doing a mixed Range/DPS (DK tank, Warrior, Warlock, Mage, Priest) team in Wotlk - ToC... was a blast. I just felt there was less flexibility and feasibility in Cata... I hope that changes!!!
