Well I was running through Stormwind with my two Warlocks and about to go to Redridge when a 37 Mage calls me a bot and starts following me and then a 34 Priest decides to tag along later saying the same thing. I just let them think it spamming Demon Armor in sync all the way to Redridge :D .

On Mag, people know the Zins.... so it is not as big of a deal. Now the issue is people accuse the non Zins of being imposter's, lol.

Well, so far only 1 person has been serious about it (my friends keep making chars and shouting "you're a bot!" at me for laughs), a low-lvl hordie who kept going like..

"you're botting, right?"
"no, I'm dualboxing, 2 computers and 2 accounts controlling 2 chars"
"yes but u can't do that, so really you're botting aren't you?"
"no, I got 2 arms so I can in fact have 1 hand on each of 2 keyboards"
"yes, but you're botting"
"whatever"

Then I told one of my very alt-and-accuse-addicted friends about it, and he started on something I must admit I would've never thought of:

"The capital of Denmark is Copenhagen"
"huh?"
"The capital of England is London"
"what?!"
"The main export of Iraq is Oil"
"ffs noob! You're reported!"
"For what?"
"shithead" /ignore

Really I'd suggest using that on anyone who claims to know wether or not you're botting better than you do. With some luck, a GM will look at the chatlog and say "yeah you're absolutely right, you were waay out of line with the insults so I'm giving you a 1-week ban. Thanks for reporting yourself, it's rare that happens".

Haven't happened yet, but there's always hope.

well I hear WTF all day long on my lock/priest server some of the best have been

"WTF 4 mages all the same..."

4 mages where I tought I was the only 5 boxer here.

or in Barrens chat

"hey anyone see the all lock group of botters?"
"yeah there over here XXXXX"
me "hey im over there all I see is a pt of one PRIEST and 4 locks multi boxing"
"yeah what ever your botting"

I did how ever run in to a BE priest that had been on Mag and new of the "great Zin army" was asked if I was him. Said no but I know him and do play on that server as well. told him to come here and check out your progress lol. Those are some of my /w cant wait to leave barrens though.

Botting accusations...

First time ever... I woke up at like 3am with insomnia, so I figured i'd go code... busted out my trusty fishing AUTOIT Script and started my priest fishing (legitimate bot)... I started up wow on my main machine and went to Felwood to farm Tubers. Since they respawn at exactly 25 minutes I have my watch set for 25 minutes, start the timer when I pick, and when it goes off I pick again.

I hadn't payed attention but over the next 6 hours i picked the tuber every 25 minutes... some alliance guy came by every now and then and must have petitioned me... a GM moved my character right at the 24:30 mark and since I run dual head on that system I saw it... I ripped the GM a new one for assuming that just because I was in the same place for so long picking the same tuber every 25 minutes that I was botting. The code included frequent /console reloadui's and I was never AFK for the duration... of course I WAS botting on my priest...

The next time I got accused of botting I was working on UI mods again and needed a raid - the GM told me that it was "frowned upon" to use Alterac Valley as a place to work on UI mods... when I asked if it was against the rules he repeated it was frowned upon, I asked if I was in trouble, he reminded me it was frowned upon... Ultimately I told him to stop bothering me and just frown silently, I'm not AFK, I'm not botting, and I'm not breaking any rules so thank you kindly but let me pay you $15 a month and play the game how I feel within the set rules.

....

The most recent was a classic argument of what can and can't be done...

I was AE grinding near sludge fen... and a player watched me gather 8 goblins, ice nova them, ae them down while healing both mages with the paladin...

He accused me of botting, I responded I was boxing not botting, big difference...

He replied "You can't box three characters, I could barely box two!!"

I replied "I'm sorry that you feel your limited skill and ability reflects on the rest of the world, fortunately for the world, we aren't nearly as limited as you."

....

An amusing story of botting and NOT being spotted... I had written a tag-along bot for my priest... I didn't enjoy leveling her at all, and I developed a mod that took a single keystroke and translated it into whatever needed done most... healing, buffing, dispelling, drinking, etc... Ends up that it worked quite well in Alterac valley... and I botted her to Exhalted there letting her follow other players around healing and dispelling...

One particularly good game she had decided this mage was the guy to follow (I had some pretty decent logic for how to pick your master out of who was nearby) and had stuck with him most of the match... about the time we took SPGY the mage turned to my priest and said "I have to go to work, make sure they push the aide station after we cap the SPGY, don't let them get distracted! Once they cap the aide station kill the .... " and traded me a bunch of water... I said "Sure" took the water and repeated what he said to raid chat and let her continue on her botting way....

We won 10 minutes later... under the leadership of a bot!

(note: I do NOT suggest botting in any form any more, and I've never suggested botting is a good idea especially using off the shelf tools... I never got busted because I never used someone elses mod. Additionally I haven't botted since 2.0 hit since they took all the tools I used out of the UI or locked them down as they should have)

Well, on my server that I'm currently leveling two rogues, I can usually play both at the same time during a quest and even doing instances.

Most people are cool with it, and I tell them about it and explain it to them and let them know what I'm doing. I also tell them that if they're bothered by it I'm more than happy to leave.

I've only seen one person who was like 'omg dude, don't go out telling people you do that so many people think its botting blah blah' but he was a retard. Most people are pretty cool about it.

i once did a instance with my tank druid and my freshly moved lock.

no one except the healer knew i was 2boxing it . i was doing the good ol 2 screens one comp. and had my g15 do a alt tab to the second box to tank my druid.

about 1/2 way into the instance someone msged me on the lock asking if i know the tank . i go nope.

2 secs later the same person msged my druid and go " pst this lock keeps forgeting to loot can you boot him .

i send him a tell using both accounts at once and a quick alt tab enter so he gets thema t the same time . i was /reported on the spot and a GM was talking to me the rest of the instance asking me questions and how i was doing tanking and dps .

I haven't been accused of botting yet, but I've noticed more people following me around now that I'm in higher level areas like EPL and Winterspring. I'm almost dreading what it's going to be like when we start running around in Outland.

The best comment I ever got was when my three identical toons were lowbes, standing around on the Zep to Org. The one other passenger just said "Creepy."

The worst that happened to me was I was being called a NOOB for having to play 5 box. I replied that playing one character or even 2 or 3 lost its flavor for me and the only challenge left for me is to do end game raids (which I do T/W/Th) or 5-box instances.

I then replied just coz you can't afford doesn't make me a noob, so don't hate. I then added, "Thank God for /ignore" and he responded with "Thank god for /report"

Well - a GM approached me and booted me from the game. Well - this is only because I had "illegal" characters like the carrets on my names to make them nearly identical (and prevent people from sending me tells). I log back in and just had a flag for name change. The GM said that I got reported for "botting" but informed me i wasn't doing anything illegal - my name however breaks the EULA :P

Funny stuff...

I had GMs change my name from Xz to Xzin. More specifically they booted me off then flagged it. Still not sure why, because I later just remade a character called Xz.

I guess it worked out though, otherwise there would be no 'Zins".

My first characters when WoW came out were 2 letter names, and everybody would complain about it because they couldn't /who me, LOL. I didn't even think of that when I first made them. People would ask me, "Why the hell do you want a character with the name Lo?", and I would just say, "Because Rivendare sounds lame."

Every single "nonsensical name" that I have had on my accounts has been stealth nerfec / changed by a GM. Keep in mind that most of these accounts were never even logged on.

But I did have some good ones :) I rolled on Mag the day it went live, so I had a character named Everquest for example. Never logged them in but I guess I was reported so much the GMs just changed em.

I've gotten two bot accusations since this thread was started, and four whispers from chinese farmers asking if I was one of them (in chinese, naturally. Mandarin, seems the cantonese regions are more likely to run actual honest businesses instead of goldfarming operations).

Just started mutli-boxing last weekend, had set up my characters and a few simple macros and was one-shotting mobs in the undead starting area.
Some guy starts following me around and then messages one of my alts. Of course I reply back from my main and he was like "i didn't message you though." Then a few seconds later he goes "when did you get your botting program."
"I'm not botting, I'm multi-boxing."
"nah you're botting"
"I'm multi-boxing...go have a look at www.dual-boxing.com if you want more info"
"I'm not going to some site with a keylogger just so you can steal my account!!!"

Like most, the reaction I get is mixed.

I reckon it's about 70% "ur botnig, boon111" and 30% proper interaction.

When I have time, I quite enjoy the 30% and have taught a fair few people a little bit about multi-boxing, hopefully dispelling a few myths along the way.

The most unpleasant experience so far was when I started my hunter team. At level 5, two level 70's turned up and started following me around.

Having convinced them that I wasn't a bot, they were then convinced that I was power-levelling the hunters to sell to gold farmers. They absolutely couldn't understand why anyone would spend "fifty quid" a month on five accounts.

No amount of rationalisation attempts ("Erm, I spend more than 50 on a round of drinks in London!!", "Perhaps me spending 50 is like you buying a cup of coffee, in terms of disposable income percentage?") would make them understand and they spent a merry 20 minutes or so killing all the spawn in my newbie area.

In the end, I just logged to another team.

Would this be reportable behaviour? It seems pretty close to harrassment / kill stealing to me...

on lothar back when there was no xrealm we had a Twink guild , many a times when bored we would grab our fishing rods and go fish up some devaite fish in barrens . once since some poor troll kept getting ganked we set him to follow . so some dude still decked in whites/rfc gear was being /followed by some of the best twinks on the server .

at the end of it he was like "Why are you following me " the bg poped and we all "disapeared"

later since we found out we kinda messed with his head we sent him some goodies to get on his way in leveling. ( ie old bags , crap blue items , some pants , and minor speed to boots )

I got a good one yesterday.
A little history for it to make sense. I play 3 Mages, was Alliance and re-rolled Horde on the same server - just hit 70 a couple days ago.
So I'm doing an instance re-gearing my new mages.

Healer says, "Wow your playing 3 mages, there was a guy on Alliance who did that. I hated that cheater, he ganked me so many times."
Tank says, "Ya, I remember him!"
Me, " ..... that was me."

I'll let you gauge the responses :)

Going from 38.5 to 40 in seven hours today I was thought a botter two times, and chinese goldfarmers from a mandarin speaking region thought I was one of them at least four times. Crazy stuff.

I wish I knew that language better, might learn these hunters some useful tricks in grinding and farming from my years of having hunters as mains. Maybe I could have one of them get me 90 gold for so that I can get my second priest up and riding, but then again, that would mark my account as having been in contact with a goldielock.

My favorite short and funny bot accusation was in the Allerian Stronghold, Terrokar Forest. I was 64 or so at the time with five chars. A 65 or so hunter took one look and said 'bots!'. I talked to him and he changed his mind to 'powerleveling!'. Since I had more than one character, I had to be powerleveling, really, no other explanation!

I managed to shut him up with one sentence: "Since you are a beastmaster hunter you must be a bot, no other explanation."

Blessed silence. =]

Ok, so...

I run a 6 box group in EQ2.

Guardian (i.e. Prot Warrior).
Defiler (i.e. Holy Priest with constant PW:S).
Wizard (i.e. Mage).
Dirge (i.e. Power Regen/Runspeed; not really a match in WoW).
Inquisitor (i.e. Shadow Priest with more debuffs).
Coercer (i.e. Crowd Control on steriods).

Follow on the Guardian.

So I'm running around the newbie zone, and I run by one dude who's harvesting stuff. He is flagged as anonymous (can not do a /who on him), but his pet is level 68, and he starts following me. Sends tells to all the followers, then starts saying "BOT BOT BOT" in shout and chat.

I calmly explain the setup to him, but he does not stop. Five minutes later, I receive a tell from a guide.

I explain the setup to him as well, and he says...

"This I gotta see"

Next thing I know, there is dude standing next to me. He sends a tell to one of my boxes, and I reply back on that keyboard. This goes on for a few minutes, with him changing the person he is sending tells to, and me changing keyboards. Finally he says, "ok, show me how you kill."

So I proceed to pull wayyy too much stuff, and slaughter it. over and over.

Then, suddenly, another guy appears. He sends me a tell, explaining that he is the Server GM,and he would like to watch. He also silences the dude that has been shouting to the zone this whole time that I am going to get banned! Wish I had that power.

So these two GM are following me around for 5 levels, and finally say that I am definitely crazy for paying that much to play, but that there does not seem to be much to complain about, and thanks for the demo. Finally, the Server GM states that he will put a note on my accounts, that will explain that I am not a botter.

The reasoning for the acceptance of my not botting was that I was doing quests and updating at different points on different quests, which I guess they can see somehow.

So, now, every time I get a tell from a guide/gm, I simply say "check my account notes" and they get quiet, then say, "OK, thanks very much for your time"

Heheh... I get those tells roughly once a night. Seems people do not like other people to have a perceived advantage.

I was selling 45minute runs for a while (just doing to for bogus Naxx rep and so I could have a collection of pimp hats, maybe his mount), I would get you on vent, take you through the Baron and all you needed to do was STFU and follow the priest, loot whatever you wanted since it was on FFA. Then when I got to the Baron before we engaged him and you were in awe we would exchange gold.

Much like the famous Xzin videos it was humorous more than anything to watch the rubber banding movement of the characters and the simultaneous toep use, casting gestures and target effects. Only difference was that we listened to Squarepusher or Flashbulb and our toons were undead males.

I have to say the haters hated more when I did that, but the customers were always very loyal and would spout off in my defense needlessly. I always get the 'can you help my guild' requests. In addition to do you want one or two of your warlocks to come to XYZ instance with us.

I had my first experience with someone thinking I was a bot.

I was in the Barrens leveling my two Warlocks (Horde) and a level ?? Alliance runs by and stops to watch me for awhile. After about 5 kills I figure he thinks I'm a bot (I normally do the same combo with both toons to maximize efficiency). I then figured, I might as well give him a show, so I started having both toons fight different mobs and fear kite a 3rd. After doing that about three times, I see him sit and disappear.

Thinking he finally left, few minutes later I get a tell:
"How in the world are you playing two characters?"

Not wanting to spend too much time with him, and forgetting about telling him about this site (sorry.. will do next time) I told him...
"Basically both toons have the same hot buttons and I have 1 keyboard and 1 mouse connected to 2 computers..."

Though that isn't my setup lol, sure did save time.
He then started asking the normal questions.. Why? gold? selling?

My old main was in the top horde guild on that server and I just explained:
"I have played end game raid content, my main was in Hexed (my servers top Horde guild), and I got board with it, So I decided to try and play two characters at once."

After that, he just said "Cool, good luck man and see you back on His Alliance Character" (Cant remember the character's name)

So the first "Botting" thing went pretty well for me... I hope it's a long ways off before I meet the "Your cheating" type people :)

My answer to the "Why are you multiboxing and wasting money lolz" question pubbies ask is "Why do linux nerds put linux on everything that runs on a processor?".

Right answer is that bot is automatic program that does all actions without any control from human. Multiboxing cannot be called botting anyhow. So this should shut people up...

Hi, I have a 5 box setup. 1xPally, 3xmage, 1xPriest all around level 11/12
Pally = Astrid
Mage = Amaralia
Mage = Amberilia
Mage = Arkadia
Priest = Antioch

also have a main BE 70 Lock - Sminky

The Pally is leader, they're all BE female and identical and my guild is Simulacra. If you're on Barthilas say hi :)

My very first comment in the BE starting area was:
" LOL - my friend 5 boxes I've sent him your name."

Hi Slats!!!! and thx for the macro tips :)

The second was :
"WTF you botting"
my reply was "sif clown"
"Nah you a bot"
"I'm a bot?"
"Yeah - you bot"
"So you're having a conversation with a bot?, lame mate"

tranquillen:
"WTF look at this"
"he a farmer"
"nah a powerlever"
"www.dual-boxing.com, check out the shammy video - nice"

and then had a very pleasant conversation with them lol.

undercity waiting for a zep:
"er creepy"
"yah creepy"
then I did the multi box buff twice
"lol"
"lol"
"still creepy"

ppl really notice 4 chars all running in the same position behind 1 char, so I'm thinking I might change it to a train where they follow each other.

Instead of hearing swearing and stuff like that i get feedback like "Wow thats soo awesome!" "Cool!" and "Here take 5 gold for the begining!"
It feels great that everyone is interested about multi-boxing.
But i can't wait for the first horde char that uses a trial account to whisper me

Byee

I am starting to understand what celebrity feels like.

since hitting 20, I seem to have a constant stream of spectators ;)

not reports or bad experiences yet... and I am happy to explain what I am doing... feels like holding court in Xroads sometimes though with all the chars gathered around my shammies.

So I had a rather awesome experience at being called a bot the other day.

I was in Tanaris, killing those guys in the pirate cove, and this priest was half following me around. I showed off a little, pulling 10 or so pirates, did a synchronized /wave to him, and so on. The he goes /y REPORTED! And I simply say in general that I'm not doing anything reportable. He seems adamant about it, and says that "/follow bots" are illegal and that people like me are "ruining the game." So I do what I usually do, mention www.dual-boxing.com, say it's legit, and simply stop responding.

The next day I'm is STV and I ask something in general and he's the one that responds, rather pleasently and helpfully. I figure he didn't remember me somehow. I run across him later grinding some mobs with a 70. I /wave at him and even send a tell asking if he was the one that threatened to report me the other day. Apparently after he found out it wasn't botting he felt like an ass. And was currently dualboxing with a friend's 70 to help level his priest. Haha

Priceless, so after accusing YOU of breaking TOS, he goes and does it himself? (by logging a friends account) muppet...

I used to have one account... on Frostwolf PvP... I will admit, I was the guy that called one of you a botter, I wasn't TOO rude. But I was ignorant, I whispered the guy playing 5 mages in Barrons. I asked him if he was a botter and I got no response. I sent one again a few min later, same thing no response. I followed him around for about an hour, whispering him a few times - watching... nothing no response. So I reported him.

Yeah nothing happened... never heard back. But I ran into him again a few months later - and told him I reported him a while ago and since he wasn't banned he must not be a bot. That actually got a response - he gave me the low down and I was so excited I went out and got another account!

As soon as I got my 2nd account I made a hunter and druid combo - the bovine army! When I left the barrens at level 20, 3x 60 alliance killed me so many times I had to logout. I logged in the next day they came back... actually I played those characters for 10 levels until I got so sick of being killed by angry alliance dudes that would hunt me down and camp me I quit the PvP and re-rolled PvE :( but i am got used to it...

I kept a low profile by learning to dual box with two keyboards and controlling characters seperatly... only following when travelling long distances... worked out pretty well. got a 3rd account for bank toons. Then I saw Ellay's vid of PvP - stepping it up a notch to 5 now on Azjul.

Maybe even re-roll with you guys on Mag... pvp again

This is why I take the time to explain to people what multi-boxing is - and tell them where they can go to get more info. Many people just don't know what it is and assume the worst. Not everyone "sees the light" but when they do, its nice to know you've just added to the multiboxing community! :D

And anytime you wanna reroll on Mag, you're more than welcome! We can help you out with bags, startup cash, etc...

Cheers,
