View Full Version : Old Keyboard == New Footboard
Meet my new healer!
I did this little mod because I was having trouble healing in heroics. I was thinking of getting foot pedals and one of my neighbors threw an old keyboard away so decided to try something different.

A few uses of SetBindingMacro and some 77 cent knobs from wal-mart and this is the finished product.

My total cost was less then 5 bucks, even if you have to purchase a cheap keyboard for the project it can be done for $15.
I have a traditional tank, healer, 3 dps setup with the first button set to cast a big heal on the tank and a chain heal if alt is held. The other 4 buttons are just chain heal for each of the other 4 characters. It's pretty simplistic but it's helped me with both the tanking and healing since my hand doesn't need to leave the main keyboard to heal at all.

Very creative. I'll keep this in mind, although I'm worried if I start 'spamming' with my foot :pinch:
Needs some padding around the keys.

This is a great idea. I think I would use it for ctrl, alt, and shift purposes.
lolz, I almost bought the X-Keys foot Pedal. this is cheaper, & way more ghetto. I love it.

Never thought to use my feet, I so want to make one myself... Always had troubles with reaching some keys while fighting.... this is a great idea! Thanks! Ill send a picture of mine some day.
LOL- that's awesome. I would suggest socks, or a regular cleaning schedule. >)
Wow, that's pretty cool. What did you use to attach the knobs to the keyboard?

Wild guess would be superglue from the looks :P
Thats pretty neat idea XD
btw, http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/foot.htm have fully functional foot pedals, theoretically compatible with any PC that have USB :)
Wow, that's pretty cool. What did you use to attach the knobs to the keyboard? They are replacement knobs for your home drawers or whatever, they come with a screw to mount them. Pop the key off make a little hole and screw the screw in from the other side. I had to take this keyboard apart because the head of the screw wouldn't fit through the key socket.
This thing is surprisingly sturdy, been using it quite a bit.
Glad to see a couple of you liked the idea!
This is pure genius. I've already started pulling the keys off an old keyboard. Please sticky this somewhere!

I was also thinking about doing a similar project. One question for you guys tho - how are you setting up the footboard to not conflict with the main keyboard... does vista recognize 2 keyboards at once? Program it as a game controller? What is the best course of action here.

i really really really want to do this... i just am kinda not sure exactly how the knobs are mounted to the key itself... does one have to pop the key out, drill a hole IN the key.. and attach the knob on with the screw provided? I'm going to guess that's how it's done, but i'm not too sure.

Windows will recognize the input from multiple usb and ps/2 keyboards. One way that was suggested to use this with a regular keyboard is to tape the alt button down.

I heated the tip of the screw and pushed it through the plastic.

Take a little fiberglass cloth and some resin and some paint and then you could probally sell these things for bank.
Very nice job.
