I'm debating if I should come back to WoW with the MoP release. I have an old Tankadin plus 4 Shaman team sitting at level 80 from Wotlk. I'm only interested in doing PvE questing and dungeon runs. I'm not interested in PvP. Is this still a good team with the current changes plus what is coming in MoP?

WotLK was toughest time to PvE box, cata was so easy you could do it half asleep. I'm in the MoP beta but for me its still too early to tell if I will enjoy boxing it. It will probably be somewhere in between WotLK/Cata.

Blizzard seems to recognize problems, then in the next expansion they fix those problems but go too far in the other direction causing new problems.

I'm not sure you could ever go wrong with a Paladin and 4 Shaman from a PvE standpoint.

I would say that WotLK was, by far, the easiest expansion to PvE box thanks to the mindless ,,,,, macros. By the end of WotLK Naxxramas had been 10-boxed, EoE had been 10-boxed, OS had been 10-boxed, ToC had mostly been 10-boxed, and a lot of ICC had been 10-boxed (even Nejcha downed LK with her 4 Shaman and 6 singles). To date, no Cataclysm raid has been successfully 10-boxed from start to finish and we've only got 2 months left on this expansion.

The loss of the comma based /click macros paired up with the original difficulty of Cataclysm heroics were the bane of a lot of multiboxers. Many multiboxers have probably quit because of how difficult Cataclysm was/is and I'll bet there are still plenty of multiboxers who haven't done all of the heroics they've wanted to (has heroic Deadmines been successfully 5-boxed?).

I've probably played a grand total of 4 months worth of Cata. I agree 100% with MiRai, Wrath was the easiest to box, followed by BC {when I started, so some of that may have been my newbness} and Cata firmly in the "this blows" category.

With the removal of comma macros and the addition of CC requirement, massive aoe damage, movement-intensive fights and the overuse of gimmicks, Cata was just a pain in the ass to multibox. There was too much grinding in order to gear up, and too much gearing up required to progress.

In Wrath, there was only one dungeon I couldn't manage without outgearing {Oculus}. Whereas Cata, I probably haven't even finished half of the dungeons. And not for lack of trying, as I'm a housewife without kids, so I have the luxury of sitting down and playing marathon 10+hour sessions any time I want while the man is at work. And even in the dungeons I have finished, there's a good number of them where I could only do so by skipping bosses.

The only issue I had with Wrath was too much vehicle combat.

As far as the original post, Tankadin+Shams is probably forever going to be the go-to comp for PVE. DKs and Mages are also popular, so those 4 classes in any combination will probably do you well enough.

Must be just me. I had horrible time in WotLK, couldn't get through it without tons of preparation for each pull, poly and whatnot. I was still pretty beginner then and it was pre-IsBoxer for me.

I couldn't do ZA/ZG but the Cata heroics I just run through, no deaths, no issues, just plain easy farming. The OP was talking about 5-mans.

This is news to me. Maybe you are overgeared for cata heroics.

(has heroic Deadmines been successfully 5-boxed?)
Yes of course, nowhere near cata released, but before 4.2, if memory serves.

pallyshams are now my fav team since trying it. chain lightning destroys trash. rshams earth shield combined with simple, strong heal mechanics, makes heals easy for me to control, while tanking mobs.
pally and shammy buffs currently work well together, but lots of stuff being moved around in pandaland.

And definitely agree with MiRai as well. Start of cata, I had no chance in heroics. Only ever managed to get 1 boss down in H VoA. I STILL haven't cleared any heroics, but with the hour of twilight 5-mans, its mostly from lack of trying.
I'm expecting (taking into account Ghostcrawlers explanation of Heroic dungeon difficulties) Pandaland 5-mans to be between wotlk and cata difficulty levels

The OP was talking about 5-mans.
I was insinuating that since so many of the 10-man raids had been cleared by a single person, the 5-man heroics were completely steamrolled by almost everyone who multiboxed.

It might even be possible (in my mind I even labelled it 'very likely') to play 1 pally + 4 ele again, i.e. run without a healer, as shamans have now some incredible off healing tools, definitely when stacked.

Yes, I have boxed every heroic, most of the achievements boxed as well. I am sure others have as well (deadmines isn't the hardest either)

Yes, pally with 4 ele is still a strong PVE team if you have a smooth transition to healing your tank when needed. That's the set up I run for my heroics anyway.

But yea, John, wotlk heroics were a complete joke. Went in with pal+4 ele, geared in blues and steamrolled everything. Boss kills took like what... 8-16 seconds? Once you tank started getting stam and avoidance, that was it. Barely anyone else took dmg. Hell, my pally could almost solo hhalf the heroics, the shams just made it faster

100% agree.. i cleared every heroic in wotlk, and once i had some gear, it was easy mode.

Thanks for all the replies. How do the MoP dungeons look for those of you in the Beta? Do they seem pretty boxable?

I have beta access and from what I have seen there is a lot of movement and precise positioning. I dont think this will work out for boxers. Until gear outlevels the content we will be sitting around or doing PVP. I did hear that druids and monks can use PvP gear effectively in PvE though, but I haven't tested it myself

Now that the four leveling dungeons can all be done from 85-90 I can see us using Jade Serpent to level all the way to 90 once people work out how to kill Wise Mari since all the other fights should be easily boxable in there.

I've seen vids of a single ret paladin soloing Mari so I think it should be doable, even if it means all other chars in the team dying and just focus on one char soloing her. I also was thinking (but haven't tested) that if it's possible to run through Mari without taking damage that you just sit your team on one side and nuke down, as the water comes round run through, spin round and nuke, repeating as needed.

The Anger/Strife or Sunspot fight on the oither side should be easily boxable, pretty much no movement needed. Lui should be easily doable with minimal movement needed up till phase 2 then just pop hero/bloodlust and burn the dragon....Sha of Anger again is no movement apart from bringing your group in togehter in phase 2 for the add burn.

I'll be doing either 5 x Pal or Pal + 4 x Shaman for my first leveling team and am fairly certain I'll level through quests to 86 for the new gear and then just chain run Jade Serpent to 90 if I can work out how to do Mari.

Also just noticed that atm on beta you can queue for cata heroics up to level 87 so that should also be a fast leveling method for people that already have them on farm. Do some of Jade Forest for initial upgrades then back to farming cata to 88 before heading back to MoP. Will also allow you to leave at least one MoP zone undone before max level to give extra gold farming.

Couldn't agree with MiRai more. I saw those massive XP drops when I was doing my little "leveling without touching Cata content" experiment. (http://www.dual-boxing.com/entries/30-Masochistic-Much) It was really painful to watch the XP peter out to nothing like that.

ahhh yes, had forgotten about them making that change for LK...that's annoying but still I think chain running Jade Serpent should be more than doable from 86-90 and then go quest the rest of the zones

I've always HATED this. Not so much when it first comes out, but do they really care if I would rather do icecrown than vashjir when levelling for the sixth time? This makes it almost impossible to level through the later zones of each expansion. .

AV cta isn't pvp...

@mulibocks, I having been craving old school AV games, I have even been constantly summoning ivus and gryphon riders in the last few games. Next on my list is the rams!!

Just a shame that those NPCs aren't as powerful compared to players as they used to be

Yeah it would be nice if they revisited AV again. I think they should change it back to the old style so I can get my bloodthirsty title! ;)

Pally and 4x Shaman is fairly strong.

You could run one as a Healer (Resto spec, or dual-spec) for the extra dispels that only healer spec'd healer toons get.
You could also add either a Boomkin (Earth and Moon) or a Warlock (Curse), for 8% additional spell damage.
Boomkin adds an extra buff and provides B.Rez, but then you need to mess around with Eclipse rotations.

My personal best PvE team was:
- Prot Paladin tank.
- 3x Elemental Shaman.
- 1x Destro Warlock.

The 4x Shaman is definitely simpler.
But if I was building a new team for exclusive PvE play...
- Prot Paladin (Tank).
- 2x Elemental Shaman (DPS).
- 1x Boomkin or 1x Destro Warlock (DPS).
- 1x Disc Priest (Heals).

the 8% spell DPS is added by the ele sham and does not stack with boomkins or locks

I could be wrong, but I don't see 8% additional spell damage taken, for Elemental Shaman.

As far as I can tell, this is a debuff that goes on the target from one of:
a) Warlock's Curse of the Elements; or
b) Boomkin's Earth & Moon; or
c) Unholy DK's Ebon Plaguebringer.

Shaman will increase your spell power by 10%, via any fire totem in conjunction with Totem of Wrath.
And they increase spell critical chance by 5% via Elemental Oath.
Where do they increase the amount of spell damage taken by the target?

I think he got confused.

For me I enjoy my DK team tbh. Howling blast spam is nice, and its easier movement for me. I love my shamans, but its so nice being able not worry where they are standing.

My easiest team to run is Feral, 3 ele, and a disc.

Haven't tried with a pally tank. I do lack dps though, atleast untill i got a full set of pvp gear. Still seems low still. I would like to do a mixed team, and after watching inviz run those enh shamans that loooks nice too.
