Thoughts of new PC

Greetings fellow boxers!

I'm new to the forum in terms of posting but have been using the information for quite a while. I was originally 5 boxing and working my way up levelling several teams, before taking a break for about 7 months. I now want to come back and continue with my boxing. My pc is currently in for repair (unknown what the damage is yet) and i've been doing all my research looking through the topics.....and now I just don't want to wait any longer!! So much, that I want to buy a fairly cheap pc so I can get straight down to the nitty gritty and box my socks off.

This is where I'm in need of a little help. I play games and can find my way around a pc ok, but when it comes to the tech stuff on hardware, I'm totally clueless. Ive checked several times from various sources about the minimum requirements for 5 boxing, but due to my lack of expertise I won't be building a new rig, I'll have to buy right off the shelf. I think from my understanding, that the following should fine to 5 box comfortably??

- 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i3-2120 processor (frequency of 3.3 GHz)
- 8gb ram
- 1 tb hard drive
- windows 7 Home premium 64 bit

Its not a specific gaming pc, just a cheap one which I think would do the job? I just wondered if you guys could give me your more informed input?

There's no dedicated video card in that machine. You can't multibox without a dedicated video card. If you've been looking throughout the topics (like you said you were) then you would have seen that you're looking to spend approximately $1000 USD on a new machine that is capable of running 5 instances of World of Warcraft.

There's a reason that most sites, including the one you linked, have an entirely separate category for gaming machines. Unfortunately, that site is pretty skimpy on the specs of their "gaming" machines.

That site keeps listing GTX 560's as having 1.25GB of VRAM when that isn't true. GTX 560's come with 1GB of VRAM (http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-560/specifications) and when using double-density RAM, 2GB. The site also lists a 2600 (non-K model) @ 3.9GHz (incorrect) and says that those processors have a "front side bus" which hasn't been used on Intel processors in years.

And 6GB of RAM on two of those machines I linked? What? The most expensive HP machine I linked shows that it has 1x2GB + 1x4GB.

This site is making my head hurt.

Even with a GTX 560 you'll most likely have to keep your video settings pretty low, and you might be forced to use DX9 instead of DX11 to save on VRAM.

..or build as you go along. I run 2 GeForce 550Ti's in SLI mode. but I started out with just one. I would also suggest, perhaps not a TB Hdd, and instead get something a little cheaper, so that you can afford to get a 96GB SSD drive to put your games on. Leave the operating system on the HDD, games on SSD. 8GB of RAM (assuming its ~ 1600MHz RAM speed) should get you moving, yet as MiRai pointed out, your settings may still be on low for 5 accounts, improving your RAM to say... 12 to 16GB of RAM would be ideal.

please please please don't buy from PC world. Whatever they sell can't be called a proper PC...

I've used cyberpowersystem.co.uk a few times and they are great - you can buy a PC with all you need for £800 excl monitor/mouse/keyboard, or £900 quid max with.

Look at the weekly sales III pack and ensure you choose I5 as processor rather than I7.Look for configurator 457363 which I've saved.

Just an FYI, there IS a GTX 560 with 1.2GB of Vram, it's called the GTX 560 Core 448, which is basically a slightly castrated GTX 570 with one less shader.

But don't buy from that site, i've not read good things. IMO build it yourself, save some money and learn something in the process.

Dave you're absolutely right. I was so angry looking at that site it must have slipped my mind. ;)

Definitely won't be buying from them, thanks for the heads up. Ok a couple of suggestions to build my own, and lots of people seem to be doing it, I'm going to try and find some guides and advice.....see if it looks realistic for me. I have zero experience of building a pc, think its possible?

Its not difficult at all. 1 thing to allways remember.. GROUND your arm on the case when working inside of it ie: just lay a arm/elbow on case as your working so no static will harm it.. and there is a killer video(s) on www.newegg.com on building/assembling a computer..
