Just because Leon Lederman mistakenly called Higgs boson "a god particle" ~20 years ago, it does not prove that "God" exists, as many fb morons/tweeters would like you to believe. I believe that this "God particle" term was primarily used publicly so that americans would take notice on something as important as Higgs boson.

Once you do some research on history and actually start using your own brain, it is obvious how obnoxiously stupid all religions are.

I was raised christian, went through all the religious mumbo-jumbo like all the other kids, but even with all that brainwashing my rational mind just could not cope with all that bullshit. I've been happy atheist for over 20 years and hope that other religious ppl open their minds to something that is true, like SCIENCE!

Well atheists happen to be the easiest people on the internet to troll, so there you have it.

Lederman said he gave the Higgs boson the nickname "The God Particle" because the particle is "so central to the state of physics today, so crucial to our final understanding of the structure of matter, yet so elusive," but jokingly added that a second reason was because "the publisher wouldn't let us call it the Goddamn Particle, though that might be a more appropriate title, given its villainous nature and the expense it is causing."

IMO anyone who gets rabid about religion or lackthereof deserves to get trolled. Since geek humor makes me giggle, I'd love to call it The Goddamn Particle, but I get a lot more joy out of calling it The God Particle just to upset people with their head and a stick up their butts.

In the end, though, I usually just call it the Higgs.

I've learnt that it's a pointless discussion between theists and atheists "You can't reason somebody out of a position if they didn't reason themselves into it". :o

The irony is that both theists and atheists believe in something, but none of them can proof it. The bad part is when they unite themselves and start a mission to spread the word, both sides don't seem to understand that someone doesn't care about their crap.

Thankfully the 'god particle' has nothing to do with any of this :) it just a progression of science and our understanding of the universe.. irrelevant of religious beliefs.

This discovery proves what we already knew, that whoever ( God? ), or whatever ( chance? ), created this amazing Universe is/are so goddamn incredible that words could never describe it/them.

Btw, i have always believed that if there is no creator, and if "chance" is the answer for this awesome universe and everything coming into existence, than I call "chance" God!

My comment was addressed at the post above me, and quite obviously had nothing to do with the whole new mass theory.

Without agreeing/disagreeing, that makes a lot of sense.
