View Full Version : Healing Strategy in RIFT

I have just started 5-boxing again in Rift. After getting the FTL setup going and a decent click bar process for healing I was able to run Instant adventures and Rift pretty easily. I had a 5 man 50th level set of accounts but my warrior account has been usurped by my nephew. He now pays for it and has joined a guild to begin raiding. While I am fine with this I do not want to use the account in my box as I am generally uncomfortable playing in a guild of strangers while boxing. Therefore I created a new warrior and have her up to 28th. With the release of 1.9 I was able to mentor down and start running instances. I quickly realized I had a terrible healing strategy and it must improve.

Group Composition
Warrior : 28th Pally/Reaver/warlord 28/9/0
Cleric : 50th Purifier/Sentinel/Inquisitor 32/34/0
Mage : 50th Chrolo/Ele/Warlock 51/15/0
Rogues(2) : 50th MM/Ranger/Assassin 51/15/0

Now the builds are decent on the Rogues but I can improve DPS switching them to Ranger but the real challenge was keeping everyone alive. The basic plan was to have the cleric spam heal the tank and rely on the chloro to splash heal the rest. This basically worked but I had several deaths. First my mage died several times due to range attackers. The tank would lock up a set of melee but one range MOB would be outside his taunting range and the Mage splash heals would put her on top of this MOBs aggro list. Now this could be an issue of the tank just not being high enough level to have all the tools he needs, such as Sergeant Orders. Also I need to expand my tool set by adding more healing options to the Mage.

SO here is the question, is it better to have the Chloro tank heal while the cleric handles splash healing? The sentinel has several group heals or other cleric builds includes a melee DPS that does splash heals to the group. What are the healing strat other boxers are using for Rift?

I currently only use 1 Cleric to heal my entire party, Warden/Sent. i have done a few hard modes (FC and KB) on this team, and i may from time to time need extra healing, i have not decided to add in a chloro yet, but i am tempted.

As for my healing setup, i have everyone on a 3 slot Group healing frame using mouse-over macros and mouse sync. I have all of the healing abilities put on a numpad mapped bar, all primary abilities are 0-6, with all my aoe healing abilities on .7,8, & 9. I even use this build for raiding on my cleric as well so it heals a bit. Each toons has separate keymaps so i can turn them off and on at will. I also have a key map for my cleric to DPS and to not allow DPS, for elite fights/rights, where i need him to be able to strictly heal.

My Team makeup is:
1 Warrior (Reaver-Hybrid) (Staple 1.8 build)
1 Mage (Pyro/Lock) may add a Cholor Build.
2 Rogue (Ranger/MM or MM/Rangers) - Ranger/MM is more gear dependent then MM/Ranger currently within 1.8-1.9, which i currently lack HK gear.
1 Cleric (Warden/Sent)

So as i heal i follow the standard front load my Tank with Heals strat at the start the fight and heal as needed, watching for AoE healing as needed, when i need to AoE heal i just press the proper numpad key on my main keyboard to activate the proper heal on my Healer's computer.

DPS wise my guys pull between 800 and 1100 mostly wearing crafted and AH Purchase-able gear. So i usually am not within a fight that long.

I have trouble with mouse sync since my main window is on 30" 2560x1600 monitor and the 4 others are on 1920x1080.

I have been trying out a 3x5 click bar setup. Line 1 cast a big heal (Healing Invocation) on marked targets 1 through 5. Line 2 does a little fact heal and line 3 does Ward of the Ancestors or Shield in the case of the cleric mark. I think I am going to set up a right click option to activate directed heals from the Chloro. The issue with the click bar has been I tend to use both hands on the keyboard to drive my group. Perhaps an improved mouse with addition buttons might be in order so I can continue to spam my DPS keys while moving the mouse to activate a off-heal. As it is I lose too much time reaching over to the mouse, finding the pointer, then clicking the appropriate button to trigger the heal.
