View Full Version : (Jamba-quest) Can't figure it out :(

Could somebody hold my hand and walk me through setting up Jamba's quest module? I've done some searches, and the most likely issue (that I can tell) is, all the answers include "make sure your toons are all in the same jamba chat channel"... yeah. what??

Alright. Let me take it from the top. I'm dabbling in multi-boxing. I've had two accounts for a couple years now, but I'm just now getting interested in controlling both at once (rather than switching windows every time I need to hit a mob or accept a quest, whatever). I Google-fu'ed my way here, and installed Jamba 0.9 and Keyclone. Got KC set up, things seem to be working all right. Got Jamba set up.. sort of. I can get into group correctly, master/slave is right, IWT and CTM are set up... but I cannot get the "push settings" buttons--any of them--to transfer settings between programs (master screen has the 'push went through' spam, but no settings change). I cannot get quests to automatically accept on the slave toon (the window opens, npc says hey, you're cool, do this for me?, but toon just sits there and otherwise ignores the window). I can't seem to find any Jamba-related threads that concern 0.9, or if they do my 0.9 is built differently than the ones they reference. There doesn't seem to be any such beast as a "Jamba chat channel", either in-game or in the Jamba config window.

Either I'm a complete moron or there's something huge that I'm missing. Treat me as a 6-year-old. Explain to me what bread, peanut butter, and knives are. Every single step. What am I doing wrong?????

/cry.

Jamba is enabled on both accounts / toons right? Just making sure.

Make sure you have the same master and slave set for both toons. I think it defaults to making the current toon master. So make sure you master toon is set in the jamba team section of the addon.

Sorry it's not more specific but I'm on my phone

Yeah, it's active on both accounts, and M/S settings are correct for both (actually went and double-checked that after I wasn't getting any push confirmation).

Edit: Specifically, I'm trying to do the Honor/Extinguish the Flame quests. I can get the flame warden dialog boxes open, but Slave!Toon doesn't click into the quests, and indeed doesn't even auto-complete them. Is this just something Jamba can't do, and I missed that info, or should it be able to do it and I'm just too dumb to figure it out on my own? >_>

Edit edit: I was in Arathi anyway, so I went to get the Battle for Arathi Basin quest. Only Master!Toon wanted to take it.

Another edit. Here's where I'm getting ... uh, nowhere. In the Setting up Jamba sticky, in the quest section, it says "NOW, back to Jamba. Enable "Toon Select & Decline Quest With Team" or "All Auto Select Quests". The first option makes your slaves mirror whatever action you take with your main in a quest dialogue window."

They don't. I don't know why. I'm ready to throw my mouse. Please help. :(

Is every toon getting the quest dialog box opened? I mean it like is Interact with Target working and its just the quest dialog that is not working between toons?

Edit: I checked my chat channels and Jamba or IsBoxer is creating one called JambaTeamIsOnline, assuming that is what you need to double check.

Well it sounds like you you just gave up on setting the chat channel. From my understanding, if the chat channel isn't working, then the team isn't communicating behind the scenes and if they can't communicate, then Jamba can't work.

Core: Communications

This section is for setting up a separate chat channel for your team. This is especially useful if you don't run your own full team and bring other people into your party. You can send various announcements to this channel that you want to see, but don't want to spam the other people in your party with.

To set it up or if your toons keep registering as Offline :

And in 6year old steps -

Follow all steps on BOTH toons.

1. Open Jamba.
2. Expand the Advanced Section.
3. Select Core: Communications.
4. Change the Channel Name to something else.
5. At the end of the channel name input field, click OK.
6. Change Channel Password to something else.
7. At the end of the password input field, click OK.
8. Under Team Online Check, check Assume All Team Members Always Online.
9. Log all the way off on both accounts.
10. Log back in. Both toons should now be good to go.

I don't know if I'd say I gave up so much as didn't know it was absolutely necessary to change them. As estimated by JohnGabriel above, the dialog box opens, but the slave toon screen doesn't interact with the gossip options from there. As I keep insisting, I'm probably just dumb... but I didn't see anything in the tutorials that says "you must have a chat channel changed for 'push settings' to work", only the "set up your quest tab as so and questing's golden" :(

I'd tried changing the chat channels (yes, to the same thing on both toons) and password, and relogging (because I had picked up the "relog to make sure changes stick") but for whatever reason it just wasn't handling correctly. The chat channel has held this time at least so far. For whatever reason, though, the quest gossip just refuses to interact (and without knowing what's going on, I can't tell if my settings are 'pushing' correctly or if I'm still just getting the spam but no results). Also, if it helps, my master toon will auto-accept quests, and attempt to share them, but my slave toon doesn't hear about the quest unless I click on it myself. This happens with both NPCs and 'this item begins a quest' drops.

All is not completely lost. I have found a workaround--I installed the Monomyth addon on both accounts. With the IWT working, Monomyth just automatically grabs/completes any quest gossips it sees on both toons. I'd absolutely prefer to figure out what I screwed up in Jamba, but failing that at least I have backup.

A quick note: I apologize if I'm giving the impression that I want everyone to just hand me the answers. I like to think I fall squarely into the FAQ-topic category labelled "I can figure it out" in most cases. And I did read the sticky topics, I promise. I searched the forum a few different ways, looking to see if the question had come up before. Either my Google-fu has failed me (an option I readily admit may be the case) or I'm not as bright as I'd like to believe and just totally skimmed over my answer without really seeing it. I do appreciate the help, Khatovar, as well as the list for 6-year-old me (since whether or not my custom chat was working before, it certainly is now).

I can't tell if my settings are 'pushing' correctly or if I'm still just getting the spam but no results).

If you can't tell whether or not the settings are pushing, change something in the master setup and push it to the slave. Something obvious, like adding another character to the team. It can just be an alt on one of the accounts. You don't have to log it in or anything. Add it only on the master account. Now push the settings. Does the slave also now show the additional toon in the team list? If yes, you are successfully pushing settings. If not, then you haven't got it yet. Also, your slave windows should confirm that they received new settings :

[01:22:34] JambaToon: Settings received from Kina.
[01:22:38] JambaDisplayTeam: Settings received from Kina.
[01:22:41] JambaTarget: Settings received from Kina.
[01:22:42] JambaCommunications: Settings received from Kina.
[01:22:45] JambaItemUse: Settings received from Kina.
[01:22:49] JambaQuest: Settings received from Kina.
[01:22:50] JambaTrade: Settings received from Kina.
[01:23:01] JambaSell: Settings received from Kina.
[01:23:02] JambaTeam: Settings received from Kina.
[01:23:03] JambaFollow: Settings received from Kina.
[01:23:04] JambaTaxi: Settings received from Kina.
[01:23:04] JambaMessage: Settings received from Kina.

Now more troubleshooting. Are you pushing the settings for ALL modules or are you pushing them individually? The Push All is under Jamba > Jamba > Push Settings For All Modules. It probably doesn't matter, but just to be sure, push from there.

Once you've confirmed that your master is listed as master in the team list on both accounts, make sure you're pushing from the master account. I may have something set up differently, but I don't get confirmation spam from pushes on the account that does the pushing, only on the accounts that receive the push, unless I use the above-mentioned Push All and while they are instant on the master, it can take a minute or so for the slave to actually process all the push commands.

Under Quest > Quest - Are you using Toon Select and Decline with Team or Auto Select Quests? I can't tell since you keep talking about auto accepting, but also say that mirroring doesn't work. Use the following options :

Toon Select and Decline Quest with Team

Accept Quests > Toon Accept Quest From Team > Only Auto Accept Quests from : Team, Party. Uncheck anything else in that section.

Master Auto Share Quests When Accepted is UNCHECKED.
Toon Auto Accept Escort Quest from Team is CHECKED.

Hold Shift to Override Auto Select/Auto Complete is UNCHECKED.
Show Jamba-Quest Log with WoW Quest Log is CHECKED.

Also, if it helps, my master toon will auto-accept quests, and attempt to share them, but my slave toon doesn't hear about the quest unless I click on it myself. This happens with both NPCs and 'this item begins a quest' drops.

Now I'm all sorts of confused. You're trying to share quests from master, but you are also trying to make the slaves get the quests themselves? One or the other, not both. And in my experience, it is always better to make the slaves get the quests themselves. There's a lot of quests that simply cannot be shared, especially ones that start from or require the use of a quest item or object.

The only autoshare you should use is the Escort Quest option listed above. If you want to share quests, do it manually via the Jamba Quest Log, which is the new bar that opens up when you open your quest journal. Share All will share all quests that any toon has in their log.

All is not completely lost. I have found a workaround--I installed the Monomyth addon on both accounts. Is Jamba the ONLY mod you have running while you're trying to do this? Other mods can cause conflicts that screw up Jamba functionality. Disable anything else that you are using while trying to troubleshoot Jamba. You can turn them back on one at a time once Jamba is working to figure out if there is a conflicting mod.

Finally, there are some instances in which quests are accepted but the dialogue doesn't look that way. Most notably any quests that autoaccepts by default, such as all the quests in the newbie zones. The NPC dialogue will simply bug out, but the quest is in the quest log. Also, when making any changes, make sure you are doing a proper log out, not a force close. WoW requires a proper logout in order to write your changes to its files.

Just got up. I'll go through the steps and edit this post for an update to let you know results.

First things first: Yep, addon conflict. (d'oh! >_>) Turns out it was LUI.... which seems odd, but okay. :) Any suggestions?

To dig down into your reply, and in reverse order: this isn't in a starting area; I was testing via the daily cooking quest. (My main/master is 85, the slave toon is 84). While I was trying to get Jamba going yesterday I believe I had any other addons with auto-accept functions turned off. I had LUI and Bartender up for the extra action bar functionality, I didn't expect LUI itself to be the issue :)

Thank you so much for detailing the quest module settings; aside from the mirroring not working, that was where I was getting most confused.

Regarding having toons get their own quests via the master sharing them... again, just my confusion. I was at the point of changing settings willy-nilly just to see if *that* was it (...and probably painting myself further into a corner in the process).

Might have some other addons causing conflicts as well, I'll have to keep looking. For the moment it's working, though.
