View Full Version : D3 Gear Farming Strats

I've watched quite a few live streams of D3 players, and came up with (i.e. stole someone elses idea) a pretty good strat for pure gear farming for the common multiboxer.

It looks like the current "best way" to farm is to find replentished chests in Act 3 Inferno - which seem to have a good chance at dropping yellows.

So you create a game, only have your main guy in the game. Find a replentished chest, then invite all your alts. Teleport to your main, equip your magic find gear on all your guys. (I have 200+ MF on all guys from just the drops I found). I have all my MF gear in the same order on all my guys (bottom row in my inventory), so it takes about 5 seconds to switch with mouse broadcasting. Shift+alt equips your second ring.

Open the chest, loot all the good stuff, hit "T" to portal back to the town. Leave game on main, find another chest on the main. Repeat.

Act 3, quest 5 has a good shot at a r chest right as you enter the area with monsters - due east and south a tiny bit - about a screen or two over, there is sometimes a stairs leading up to a platform that has a replenished.

Farming locations will probably move or get nerfed, that's just how D3 is, but it's pretty easy to find stuff on one guy, and then invite others to the game to save any hassle.

I did this for a few hours, got a lot of yellows. I got a bit bored and started using all my guys to kill packs and try different specs.

Here's a link to several screenshot of where I'm farming now, there are a few other spots, and this spot won't show up all the time, so if it's not there, or the guards are alive when you get there just start a new game.

You also get attacked when you open the chest, so loot quickly. If you don't get a chance to loot on all your guys, release one guy who didn't get the loot, TP back to one of the dead guys, try and loot again.

There's also another spot that you can go to if this one doesn't pop. It's just 1 screen south. It's called Cryder's outpost, and I'm sure it won't spawn in every game.

I've been a lurker for a while - should probably post more. Had a kid which took me away from gaming. I get to squeeze in some time now and then but nothing like I used to.

Not sure if farming chests after 1.03 will be worth it in general. With my 80k dps no SS demon hunter with 212 base MF i get 1-2 rares from rares/champion packs already almost every time.

Chests are an easy way to get a full group worth of drops and you can just maximize cheap magic find gear.

I too just run around in Magic Find gear stacking up the nephalim buff and get plenty of blues and yellows falling out of champions, regular chests and just normal mob drops.

I haven't played D3.

That said, when I look at the screenshots above, I actually had to do a double take because that looks like Guild Wars to me.

Using the screenshots in this thread, you could easily confuse D3 and GW...

It seems Demon Hunters are the best dps in the game and have had the easiest time in inferno for gear checks vs progression. Makes me want to level mine up higher, they are only lvl 12 at the moment but there is just something about the class that turns me off. Partly because it doesn't make sense how they succeed so well, really just ought to give them a try :)

From the latest patch notes.
Magic Find will no longer be considered when looting objects in the environment such as chests, barrels, vases, pots, and corpses

Makes doing this of lesser value, but still it's a chest! :)

basically rendering MF useless for the mobs that matter. for Inf mode, you need topnotch stats to beat elite packs and bosses.. so you don't have much room for MF on your gear. Its main usefulness has always been for all those items listed that i wont work for now.

Well the current method is kind of clunky, most high end players from what I've read and seen in videos will swap out their gear for MF gear right before killing the mob. Which then counts as wearing all of the gear in the first place. So do 99% damage run away a bit, swap gear - boom profit.

Me personally, with 4 characters is not going to bother that route.

Yea.. i guess you could put some MF on a few of your followers without hurting anything.

Are you sure swapping your magic find gear right before the boss dies will work? In WoW all the loot tables are calculated when the dungeon is first entered.

Yes, it works. Loot drops are calculated on the Kill. I am disappointed with Magic Find no longer working on chests, bodies and breakable barrels. That combined with repair costs has made me much more reliant on having crappy loot that normally gets vendored or disenchanted sell on the AH.
