Has anyone delved into this? I started a few days ago and it changes the dynamics of the whole game. I now go for defensive and survivability stats instead of glass canon stats, and I find myself looking at mob attributes before hand and changing up skills to suit it.
If you haven't, but would like a hair pulling challenge, give hardcore a try.
If the thought of losing your toon forever due to RNG or skill lapse makes you uneasy it probably isn't for you. Most of my friends said they would never do it haha.
I'm waiting until the server BS calms down a bit more before giving HC a try. Even then, my internet connection is pretty flaky so I might not even do HC at all.

Yeah, I am currently abroad and playing on a crappy DSL. If my ping time starts going up I run away and port back to town.

I have no desire to play HC mode. I am currently working through nightmare level and there were at least 30-40 times in normal mode that I would walk around a corner and get 1-3 shot as a demon hunter. Normal mode act 4 Izzule (sp) fight was the worst. I had to spend about 4 hours farming gold and gear because he would one shot me every single time I tried him until I stacked vitality in every slot and even then it still came down to dumb luck. I almost quit the game because of this was such an unexpected wall. If I was outside of melee range, he would teleport and one shot me. Inside melee range he would just one shot me.
I also find it a bit frustrating that everything that drops is 5-10 levels below my character or more. Past the first few hours of play, all my gear is AH bought. It's not rewarding to spend an hour or two playing, kill a boss and have junk after junk drop.
Act 1 Normal mode for me was bugged or something. I finished it and there was no cut scene and when I looked at my achievements it had all the boss kill and their quests listed as incomplete.

I have a rock solid cable connection and D3 still stutters sometimes. No way I could play hardcore unless this is fixed.

I am working through HC, and the stutter has seemed to become less prominent. I teamed up with a buddy and started duoing, and it got a lot less stressful. All in all I think I may just play HC mode from now on, just my personal preference. I will finish my Wiz in SC up to 60 so I can run with homies I spose.

I am dual boxing a hunter/sorc atm in HC. Even though stuff dies super fast I am still finding myself running away from more than three mobs just in case I miss one of my toons health lowering. I find it super stressful both toons are level 21 right now and I keep wondering when I am gonna walk around a corner and get destroyed.

I cleared act I on hardcore on my wizard on Saturday. Did it in one sitting(took about 4-5 hours). I've played Act I on Hell through one character, through Nightmare on another and cleared it on a low level monk as well before trying it on hardcore. I'm definitely going to clear Act II at least 2 or 3 more times before I make an attempt on hardcore. And if I fail, then I have to repeat Act I. It's nerve wrecking but I greatly enjoy the challenge. I had a few oh shit moments on Butcher that I definitely loved. It makes doing bosses, even on normal mode, which is easy, an epic challenge. I really feel like Belial is a crapshoot at the moment(if I even make it to her). I think there's a few other circumstances where I have the room to die on Act II, the desert area tends to get a little messy with adds. I just did Nightmare Act II on Sunday on my witchdoctor and died quite a few times. Normal should be easier, but one wrong move and its game over. Like I said though, I'm going to greatly prepare for Act II before I give it a go. I'm hoping to have 3 characters that I keep one act ahead of my hardcore character, so I know what I'm going into before I run in there all willy nilly on hardcore.
I've been nerding out hard on the game though. I haven't really touched multiboxing since it came out. I have a 54 barbarian on Act II of hell that I don't really enjoy playing, I got my 48 witchdoctor cleared on act III of nightmare this evening, and I've got my hardcore character, as well as a low level monk that is pretty close to being done with act I on normal. My three characters to keep ahead of my hardcore characters will probably be Demon Hunter, Monk and Wizard.
Keep us updated on how your hardcore progress Crum. It's nice to know I'm not the only one batshit crazy enough to enjoy this intense experience.

Haha, sounds like you have a pretty good plan!
I am currently in the process of moving to Austin, TX. Once I am there I will start playing again, and even fraps some of the boss fights and all that good jazz.
The biggest thing I learned quickly is in hardcore, making sure you have enough +vit is very very helpful lol. In softcore I stacked straight +int on my Sorc, in HC that did not work out so well.

Austin...isn't that where people have salaries that rival large metropolitan areas and the housing market is ridiculously cheap (i.e. you can get a 3500sqft house for 200k)?

Yeah, it is insane here. The tech industry is booming, housing is as cheap as Svpernova09's edible thongs. I think I could see myself staying here. The outlying Dallas 'burbs are pretty cheap to live as well. My sister bought a 3bed, 2 bath house with huge back and front yard and 2 car garage for 180k

If your doing Hardcore go for vitality and survivability stuff, +life regen etc. If your playing non hardcore then you should go for heavy int with some vitality because most of the final act bosses will wreck you if you have low hp.

Unbelievable. I was looking at a nice house here and it is going for $700k. Granted, it is 4000sqft, but come on!!! A 800sqft condo runs about 350-400k here, in a decent area. I might have to do a 50year freaking loan when I buy my house.
I was biking in a nice neighborhood the other day and was like "these are pretty darn nice looking!", checked the prices on Zillow when I got home, two houses were for sale at $1.4m each.
