Our toons names are near and dear to our hearts. Using ascii symbols in our names can be advantageous in many ways. If the name you wanted is allready taken you can still get it using a variation of a vowel in the name you wish to have. Gold spammers may have a harder time trying send you tells if you have a special symbol in your name. But for multiboxers most of the time we want to be recognized by having the same names in our teams. Or we want all the toons in our team to have meaning when looked at as a whole. With that in mind i made the following suggestions for the purpose of managing your teams. If your teams are named already you can always do name change for 10 bucks.

Basic - PvP Naming: A team that is specialized PvP heavy might want to have all the same name so that the enemy cant pick out the healer by voicing the name in vent: "oh my god!, they dont even have real names" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dY9O71944OU&feature=youtu.be)

JackBùrton - Healer
JackBurtòn - DPS
JàckBurton - DPS
JáckBurton - DPS
JackBurtón - DPS
JackBúrton - DPS
JâckBurton - DPS
JackBurtôn - DPS
JackBûrton - DPS
JackBurtõn - DPS

Step Further - Recognition by Class: To make things less painful for you to remember what name was what class assign special characters to classes.

JàckBurton (variations of Grave à given to all DK's)
JáckBurton (variations of Acute á given to all Pallys)
JâckBurton (variations of Circumflex â Given to all Warlocks)
JãckBurton (variations of Tilde ã Given to all Shamans)
JäckBurtron (variations of Umlaut ä Given to all Druids)

Another Step Further - Named by account: You could also combine Name by Class with name by account. so all the toons in Account A would have some variation of the name Bender with ascii symbols in its name to diferintiate what class it is.

Burton - Account A
Durden - Account B
Vegeta - Account C
Plissken - Account D
Bender - Account E

Ascii Characters Available - to use these hold down alt while pressing the 4 digit sequence on the numkey pad on the right side of your keyboard.

Tilde

While I used to use accent marks, recently I've done my best to avoid them. I feel that it gives a 'cleaner' look but, it's really just personal preference.

Isn't use of Ascii against TOS? I know it is done all the time but you could be reported and that would be a lot of names to re-invent

been doing it for six years been "reported" 100's and 1000's off time and never been made to do a name change. the worse for it is change name and or a 72 hour ban nothing to hard.

They recently changed it so that new names could not include these characters, but advised that they would not change names that used them at the time of the change.

They failed, i have made teams with the Ascii charaters since that 'change". I'm wondering if they will finally change it in MoP

When you toon transfer, and have a character with an ascii name... or make a toon with your existing name, which forces a name change on the new realm...
The ascii character cannot be used for the new arrival, or in the case of the initially chosen name when you needed to change it.

However, once the name filter has rejected your first choice of a name...
You can change the name to anything other than what had initially been rejected.

So if you want: äpple.
You would enter: äää.

The äää is rejected, because of the ascii characters.
It prompts you for a new name, which will bypass the filter.
You enter äpple, which it accepts.
Enter the world once, and you wear the rejected name.
But on your next log in, you'll have the accepted (second) name.

Someone, in Rath Strat yesterday, mentioned that an announcement for MoP is the removal of the ascii characters.
But that anyone who already had them, would be allowed to keep them.

I've heard the same, several times before.
Not sure anything will actually be applied or not.
