Am I the only one holding out? My server is barren now. They need to consolidate servers or this game is dead.
I cancelled all my accounts at 1.2 with all the beeping noises.

I've definitely enjoyed the game, have four accounts still open, and think I'll keep playing, but in the last ten days I've been having more fun soloing/duoing/trioing Dragonsoul in WoW.
I sure hope SWTOR survives and does well - it just needs more time to create some of the quality of life game systems that we've come to expect from WoW. After so much investment from EA and Bioware, it would be a travesty if the game didn't survive after having created 80% of what MMOers want.

^^ What you said Mercurio.
I hope to see them come out with some really interesting expansions and serious plays on this whole light side/ dark side thing.. I mean, at what point does a Dark Side Jedi actually fall and become part of the Empire?? Would be a great player experience to progress through and get to experience extended character development (companion development as well).
I'm going to be patient .. I think they'll layer on some even more quality as time progresses.

I am stupid casual though so it takes me 10 times longer to get anywhere than even the normal guys out there, let alone the hard core players.

Now that I am at the grind wall in EQ1 ( AA grind ) its getting rather boring. It was a fun remissness of what no other game will ever give me. I have been longing to fire up two of my 4 swtor accounts and finish leveling them. Just waiting for MoP release date to be announced so I can plan my come back for that.

I may have said this somewhere else, I can't remember for sure. SW:TOR was the shortest game I have played in a very very long time. It took about 3, maybe 4 casual evenings to reach max level and about that amount of time to max out the gear. The story line I played through (sith jug) was cool. The game has so much potential, but it was clear that it fell short in huge ways in my opinion. I know back in the day EQ1 burned a lot of bridges with the treadmill leveling system that took months, even years for some people to max out. But you cannot launch a game that relies on a customer coming back month after month with a fist full of dollars when there is a week and a half's worth of content for a casual play style and a few days at best for the hard core.
I didn't make it to the second month.

Riiker, no, I don't really enjoy PvP and haven't since grinding arenas to a decent rating 4 years ago in WoW. The stealth team is primarily to be able to skip a ton of trash in the HM FPs ( from which you can rack up BH comms pretty quickly and get close to BiS gear).
The team hit 50 a few days ago, so I'll need a bit of gear before I try the HMs. But between sleep darts, stealth, and even restealth from combat, I can eliminate over half the fights I'd have to do on my other team.
Team is an assassin and three operatives, BTW, though any combination of assassins and ops with at least one of each would work.

Wow! I'm still working on my first team getting to 50! I'm level 41 and just started the planet Voss. I'm hoping that doing my class quests will be enough to level me on my last two planets.

Riiker, I think I started Voss around level 45 or so. I doubt you'll hit 50 with just Voss and Corellia to go. Here's something I found very helpful: get to 47, then head back to Belsavis. There will be a bonus series that opens up that will give you about 15 or so daily quests to do (3 of which are heroics that are challenging but fun). Level up to 50 by repeating these each day. In addition to faster XP than Corellia, you'll be making plenty of credits and earning Daily Commendations which can be used to buy some great gear (though you need 120 or 200 of them per piece). Much better way to finish out leveling and give you a boost into the credits and gear you will want at the end game.

The server I started on was absolutely dead the middle of February. My guild which had cleared all the 16man content on NM was basically the only active 50's on the server, so we all eventually bailed out. It got to the point where I actually had to bring my Sentinels or my Commando's to fill raid slots (Karagga was oodles of fun with 2 sentinels, and so was the platform minigame in EV :( ).
Anyways, I'm thinking about re-upping here shortly. Merc if you're still playing I wanna pick your brain a little! My Sentinels/Marauders were absolute blenders in PvP, how would assassins supported with a Operative do, do you think? (I saw you don't PvP much) but end game for me gets a bit boring without some pubstomping ;p PvE wise, I imagine assassins supported by Operatives would probably be ideal for a stealth team 2x2 or 3x1 any combination thereof.

I have 2x Marauders on one of the PvP RP servers, 2x Shadows, 2x Commandos and 2x Sentinels on Firkraan Crystal. My Republic characters are all quite easily geared up I would assume as I have like 6 full bank vaults full of EV and KP mods/armor plates. The Sentinels were in fullish columni if I recall.

Mercbeast,
Yep, any combo of sins/ops would make a fine stealth team. A couple of thoughts:
The big downside of this team is the time spent running between targets. Sin tanks get a DK-like pull on a 45s cool down that helps a bit, but walking between mobs/players while being pelted can suck. Positioning is important as well, as ops (not sure about DPS Sins) lose significant DPS if they aren't behind their target.
On the plus side, ops can self heal, which might be very helpful in PvP. With just 2 points in the healing tree, they become significantly better healers. Ops are the best CCers in the game with a 60 sec non-droid CC and a 60 sec droid CC that can be used at the same time. Makes PvE packs much easier. They both have a vanish ability to remove them from combat that is fabulous for a bad pull - like a mini Load Saved Game for an MMO. Haven't played with the optimum DPS rotation for Sins, but I assume they are as easy or easier to optimize as Ops.
Big thing that makes all this possible in PvE is the stealth tank - a pretty unique concept in the MMOs I've played.
-------------
Riiker,
Yes, THE dailies the level 50s do for cash. They are on Ilum, Belsavis, and Corelia. The Belsavis ones open up at 47 and there are twice as many as the others. You won't see them until your guys are level 47, then you get the bread crumb quest to them from the Belsavis orbital station.
Ilum dailies don't open until you complete your class quests. They are better credits quest for quest than the other two.
The Corelia dailies don't open until you are level 50. They are hardest, but if you do them all at least once a week you get 6 BH comms as a bonus (well worth doing once/wk).
So yes, stop whatever you are doing the moment you hit 47 and head to Belsavis for the dailies. A couple of them are heroic 4s - a fun challenge when you are level 47 and good check of your setup/skills. Finish up your class quests when you have time after you hit 50 or are done with all the Belsavis dailies for the day and have extra play time.
-------------
Mercbeast,
You are right that any combo of operatives and assassins would work for clearing HMs and doing PvP as a stealth team. My few thoughts on this - the operatives can all self heal in a pinch. I don't use this in flashpoints, but in PvP I imagine it could be very helpful. The operatives have the best CC in the game - they can CC a non-droid from stealth for 60 seconds (and remain stealthed) - (BTW, assassins can do this CC too), but the operatives can then cast a 30 m range droid CC that lasts for 60 seconds as well. So for PvE they can make the hard pulls a LOT easier by allowing you to kill a few at a time. Both sins and ops have a "vanish" type ability that can be a life saver (bad pull? just have everyone vanish - almost like a "load saved game" button for an MMO). Sin tanks get a "pull to my position" like DKs, don't think sin DPS get that, but if they did it would be very helpful in PvP.
One of the big downsides to the stealth team is that they spend a lot of time moving from mob to mob. It kinda sucks when the mobs are well spread out and you spend a lot of time walking between them while being pelted.

I can't wait to start the endgame content. For me, I'd rather explore the story of my team rather than the individuals. I have a pretty mixed team ( vanguard, commando, gunslinger, and sage ). Doing all of the class quests has gotten tedious to me ever since chapter 2 started. I loved chapter 1, but 2 & 3 are just a little boring. Long story short, I love doing quests that they can all do together.

I was catching up on old threads and I saw that in 1.2 autofollow was sort of broken again. Did they ever fix it?
blackshifter
08-12-2012, 01:54 AM
Autofollow, for the most part works. If a character gets hitched on a baracade or a rock, one of your other characters can get stuck and won't be able to move. The only way to clear that up is to back track and re autofollow them. But that's very minor compared to the autofollow issues in the past.
Mercbeast
08-12-2012, 05:07 AM
I was referring specifically to the autofollow hiccups people were talking about that were introduced in 1.2. Was that corrected?
blackshifter
08-12-2012, 07:51 AM
Yeah, that's gone. Right now there are only 3 autofollow issues I'm aware of:
1) The most common one is what I said above. One character gets stuck on a rock and causes another character to be immobile. It's fixed by just going back and reautofollowing the leader.
2) One character ghosts and becomes immobile. It's fixed by going back re autofollowing the leader.
3) Flashpoint zones causes characters to break autofollow.
1 is the most common and can be a pain in the butt but if you round corners on turns and avoid barracades then its not a problem.

Has anyone had success in HMs two boxing? ( Two toons+companions )
blackshifter
08-12-2012, 08:57 AM
I originally 2 boxed a Trooper and Sage and I wasn't able to 2 box some of the Heroic dailies before they nerfed them to 2 man. I'm sure people have though. The two big issues I had with 2 boxing is interrupts and companion standing in fire. You'll have to have to alternate interrupts with your healer, and put your companions on passive to heal them up and reposition them.
losschris
08-12-2012, 10:12 AM
Ya the auto follow works pretty well now with a little bit of a stop here and there. I notice in flashpoints that you will have to slow down so your other chars don't get left behind. I will say 2boxing is fun, but can be difficult, because companions never seem to get out of aoe which is annoying.

I just started playing a month ago on the Gav Daragon server. So far so good. The game still seems in rough shape, I expected Bioware/EA to have it pretty well sorted out by now but I was wrong. There has been quite a bit of downtime which is bad for Australian players as it occurs during our evenings.
I am having fun though playing through the stories. I only plan on duoing and levelled up a Commando, Sage, Vanguard, Guradian and Shadow to around level 13. I have settled on the Shadow tank and Sage for heals, this seems to be a pretty easy combination. I would have liked to be playing two different starting classes though for the stories.
I find the lack of an auto attack as pretty odd as this has been a staple of MMORPGs until now.
I really like the companion system though, so far I only have the starting companions but am excited to find others.

Due to running a pretty hardcore raid guild, and being basically the last person from my guild to quit, I have literally dozens of columni weapons (sabers and pistols) as well as dozens and dozens of rakata tier mods and enhancements.
My question then is, I'd rather go to Bastion than Fatman, but those items would be Fatman bound. How easy is it now to get Rakata/Columni level geared up now? To give you an idea, I've got 15-20 of each of the mod/enhancements that came out of Karaga Palace and Eternity Vault in addition to 20 or 30 of the weapons which can be stripped of all their components and put into orange gear etc.
I'm also debating Marauder x2 Jugg x1 Sorc x1 or Vanguard x3 Sage x1 as my team. Should I not worry about the gear I'd leave behind because I can quickly advance past it, and just wait for paid transfers?
Anyone want to wade in? I plan to PvP a fair bit as well what is the current state of said classes in PvP?

Absolute fastest way to level (well back in late Feb when my guild rerolled) is to run operation groups in world heroic areas. We did like level 11 to 19 in 90 minutes in DK, did 20 to like 25 in a couple hours on Nar Shadda in one of the world heroic areas. Our level spread broke up at this point and it was no longer feasible to continue running operations. However so long as you can keep finding boss grade mobs that you can kill quickly, or even the yellow grade ones in high volume. You can BLITZ the levels. The reason is really quite simple. 12 People don't get 1/12th the XP, 16 people don't get 1/16th they get is significantly more. Which means you can absolutely tear through mobs like this getting obscene numbers of commendations and the XP is outrageous. For example, on both Nar Shadda and Dromund Kaas, the two areas we did had named bosses at the end of their areas which we could chain summon. Which meant we had solo named boss monsters that we could spawn as fast as we could kill them.
You can also power level in this manner in level 50 heroic areas. A bunch of buddies on another server told me that they could PL alts if most of their guild was on in one of the heroic areas on Ilum extremely fast. Ten or so level 50's with a pack of lowbies, and the 50's blasted through the monsters so fast that the XP was just flowing in.
Once the game goes f2p, I think there is a very very good chance that I will see if I can wrangle 6 accounts on my desktop and 6 accounts on my RoG Asus G75. Twelve box via grinding heroics to 50 ;p
On my operatives, I am probably going to skip the story quests until I am 50. I've done all the plot lines in beta, and doing Op x3 + PT x1 is just tedious in the extreme. It has actually taken me longer to level 1-15 with a 4 box, than it would take me normally to level a solo character to 30 or a duo to mid 20's ;p
Riiker
08-18-2012, 10:46 AM
Ok... big post Mercbeast! I can see how you can PL with a group of 12-16, but how are you going to it with just 4? I'm really curious b/c I'd like to lvl my imps up and speed is desirable!
Secondly, if you can figure out how to 12 box that would be insane! I have two very capable machines and would love to try that out with you to get the mechanics down. It would probably only work for PL, but you could farm world bosses too.
Please keep us updated with how the leveling is going bc I'm not going to be too far behind with my imp team.

I'm not doing it on my own, the operation style leveling that is. However a couple boxers coordinating could easily do it to get 8 or 12 or whatever going. For boxing multiple groups, I imagine a combination of standard single group hotkeys with the other group(s) running off of a focus assist/follow system.
For healing, I'd set it up so that all my healers were in the lead team. So maybe tank + 3 healers. Then I'd use an assist heal system of some sort. I'm sure once the game goes f2p, we will have plenty of opportunity to check out the mechanics of it.

that sounds like fun merc, I am on the imp side myself, I am doing great with my Tank (assassin), 3 x Sorc. If you guys want to pick a side for operations and end game let me know I have odd hours, but I'd def love to try something with you riker and merc.
If your on The Bastion look for me on Rep - Allistar or Imp - Loss'uchiha, losshunter. Those are my two mains atm I have been playing imp side.

I'm officially starting my new imp team on the bastion. If either of you could find a guild that is boxer friendly that would rock! Once we are all at 50 it will be awesome to do ops and world bosses that you can't do with just one 4 box team.
I could see 2 boxing warzones as pretty fun as well. I'm not sure that I will ever enjoy 4 boxing warzones... too much going on to micro manage 4 toons.

In the end might be best until macro's to stay out of the warzones too much going on sometimes.

Well I just joined a guild on The Bastion server that doesn't mind if I box. Pretty cool. I'll do my first op on saturday and I'm really looking forward to it.
