*Sigh* My guide to spending 26,000 Gold (Epic Mounts)

So, Upon reaching 70th with my paladin I discovered that there were situations that my alts just wouldn't keep up on the 60% flying mounts, and I had a great deal of disbelief that it would be feasible to run them on epic's... My initial thoughts were "Yay, no need to spend 26,000G!" but my stubborn self went and found a way.

I got my first epic mount for my 5 box team last night, so I put my main character on follow to my lead 5 box character in shattrah (great place for testing lag and autofollow) and started doing laps.

With both riding epic mounts I had few problems with them keeping up, but once I introduced Crusader Aura I often lost my trailer... I found that if I turned crusader aura off, and equiped my riding crop I didn't have these problems at all.

So the key seems to be, give your followers a little boost in riding speed, make sure your system runs relatively lag free, and you'll be able to drop 26,000g on your five boxers to fly fast!

I haven't yet broke down and gotten my mages epic mounts, maybe one day. I know from running around with my war/sham (who have epic mounts) that what works best for me is to have the follower(s) equip riding crops, while the leader has no speed boosts.

I've currently only got 2 of my 6 toons with epic fliers... I didn't want to grind up 26,000g and blow it to find out they would sit in the bank unused!

I easily earn 250g a day doing my ogrila and skettis dailies, which means in about 90 days I'll have epic's on my other four toons... this is worst case all said and done, I have lots of untouched quests in multiple zones... plus when Sunwell comes out there is a brand spanking new quest hub for me to abuse :).

At 61 I had 0 gold on all 5 of my toons - buying the first round of epic mounts drained me dry. I am now 66 and they all have 400+ and I haven't been trying to save money. That also doesn't count the money (about 1k) on my auction alt from the greens that I AH - and I only AH the greens with good attributes (of Spirit plate, for example, gets DE'd). I don't think money is much of an issue for boxers because we have nearly 0 downtime. Often I'll find, 2 hours into play, that I never did conjure water for my guys... I simply never needed to drink - and that's even with AoE grinding etc.

My biggest issue has always been finding mobs to kill... not killing them :)

I was the same Gallo...I had like 10s between my 2druids when they hit 60, after borrowing like 500g from my rogue to boot.

They are now lv65 and have over 850g EACH. Do not buy at the AH kids, but DO sell at the AH ;p All greens & cloth, no blues; the 57-63 greens sell for 10-30g if the modifiers are right(Eagle/monkey/bear/sorc/etc) and dear god loot every gray you can, a stack of useless gray loots from questing on mobs can sell for 1-3g each let alone the 1-3g gray weapons, as well as Meats for stuff like Warp Burgers, Clam Meat from the Naga you'll kill plenty of in Zangar for Clam Bars, a highly-used raid food buff, etc.

And just to rub it in like an asshole...my flight form is almost-free at 68, neener neener boo boo >P Which means when I ding 70 I miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight just be able to afford to start the epic flight form quest right off the bat if I don't go on a spending spree...I had 1100-1300g on my other 70s when they hit 70 so normal flying mount was no prob and the two druids are freaking miles ahead of them moneywise + ahead of the curve questwise SINCE I FUCKING WAITED TILL 60 TO ENTER OUTLANDS UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE ;) Which means I'll have more high-gold quest rewards at-70, making it that much easier to afford the epic flying mounts when I get there, since my rogue made over 800g off SMV alone and he still hasn't even finished it off yet, nor even touched most of Netherstorm.

I'm slightly worried about cash. At lvl 56, I have about 700g spread out between all my chars and bank alt. So, I'm quite a ways away from epic ground mounts. I DE all my green and sell the mats, and sell all cloth. I do have a bit of inventory on my bank alt, so maybe that figure is ~1000g, but still. It's what, 800g per character for epic ground mounts + training?

I figure I'll get the epic ground mounts around 63-64.

Gallo once you can solo Scholo(lol), just stop and spend awhile there; the Dark Runes sell nicely to Raiders as they're very valuable and not on mana pot cooldowns, and Large Brilliant Shards sell great still too + you can get nearly a dozen of 'em in a single scholo run easily; a 70 can solo most of it, a group of 5 depending on lvl and makeup could probably take 'em out too. The shards're about 10-12g on mag and sell fairly quick and reliably, they're common in twink enchants + crusader + the alternate lv60 Mana/Wizard oils which give 2 buffs instead of pure dmg or regen

Problem is, can I solo it with 5x Shamans before lvl 58? I'm thinking not. I'll have to take time out of leveling to actually leave the outlands and go there to farm for cash. That sucks :(

Maybe I can farm it at 58.

At 55, I couldnt get through the first 2 pulls of Strat without wiping, so I'm not sure.

Gallo, trust me, finish Azeroth off first, don't upgrade if you don't have to ;p I did up to 60 with Travel Form and that's 10% slower than even normal mounts(Though I DID buy normal mounts, my main only had an epic land mount and I didn't wanna play catch-up or waste money on a non-epic land mount for my main lol); hit 60, run Scholo, or start hellfire and gear up then try it; a combination of both should get you up in cash a bit fairly quick, you don't really "need" epics in hellfire but everythign beyond(lv62+) you kinda wanna have it lol

Didn't really feel like killing Ikiss, since I've run SH SOOOO many times in normal mode and Ikiss was always a pain for crap loot. The Netherdrake is the only one I would say actually required any "work". Everyone has long been exhalted with Skyguard, I just bought the Flying Machine, and the druid quest is just long though still doable in one day (learning curve on the heroic dungeon kinda blows). Now I've just got to get the other 4 classes to 70 and find appropriate unique flying mounts for them.

One thing I learned was no matter how much I wanted to, spend the extra few seconds to loot the clams in the Naga instances. Even if it means trading some from your main to your alts. Especially with 2.4 coming out, black pearls are sky rocketing in price (40-50g per pearl so far, up to 70g if its cut).

If you are up for some PVP, get the PVP shaman boots with the +15% movement, you end up GW @ 155% (and can do it in combat) I found it invaluable (mind you I was levelling and enhancment shammy) Great for flag carrying too as long as GW isn't dispelled.


WHY? Why do Shammies in GW suffer the same limitations as druids in animal form but can have the ability dispelled? If it is a spell, surely hibernate and fear beast shouldn't work and if it isn't then it shouldn't be dispellable!

On the Characters being left behind thing I'd suggest you have one of your other characters (preferably one with mining/herbing) take the lead with your pally on follow. This way you get the benefit of crusader aura but if your leader gets to far ahead the followers keep the speed aura while the leader loses it till the minions catch up... Setting this up can be pretty easy with making your follow macro have the code /follow [mounted] CharacterX; PallyCharacter

On the epic flyers bit, 5 Epic Flyers is absolutely awesome especially when you can turn em into an armada of netherdrakes swooping down on some would be gankers, spend the gold and don't look back. Couple of tricks I've found for getting there...
If you haven't gotten to 70 yet avoid questing in Netherstorm, Blades Edge, and Shadowmoon the XP they give is nice but getting 12g for each kill quest as soon as you hit 70 is much nicer. Huge boost to your initial gold when your gear isn't quite up to snuff for heroic instancing and such Store all your money on a bank toon or a personal guild bank, keeping only 50g on each of your characters. If you don't have money to spend your far less likely to spend it Have a Fire Sale from your bank mules, sell everything that isn't immediately useful tradeskill mats included. After your epic mounted and your gear is enchanted you can still make a shit ton of gold with simple dailys so it will be easy to buy stuff you truly need after you have the mounts. This works best if you start it before your guys hit 70 as you can sell it over time instead of having to do a mad rush... If you have friends or guildees you can borrow gold from when you hit 70 to cross the epic flyer boundary, do it (especially if you avoided questing in NS, BE and SMV). You can do dailys and kill quests much faster if you have the epic flyers and pay them back in a couple of days if you work at it. Also saves you 500g from having to buy the regular flying mounts 100g x5 toons. I wouldn't do this if you don't believe you can pay them back quickly, outstanding loans erode friendships quite quickly if not paid back...

Just an interesting fact...

Saturday night I spent every gold I had save 2g on each of 6 toons left on them for flying around money...

I haven't done any play today, but as of last night I was up over 1100g again.

I actually have a guildmate or two who could loan me the entire amount if I wanted to go that route, however I don't feel any pressing need. Doing nothing but dailies and I'll be epic in 90 days, throw in the quest here and there when I'm not raiding and it comes in nice and fast.

zanth I'd ask what mailbox you stripped an NE down and danced on to make that kinda money but as a multiboxer you probably sent one naked NE to each major city mailbox and danced on all of them at once, rofl

You had t5 + anti-undead powers, I had t4/lurker gear and had to spam Wrath and couldn't heal myself without going down to 2k armor ;p Plus, you're a retardin...maybe he felt sorry for you ;)

5box the dailies imo. I have a 5 allaiance team from my old 70's (70's prior to multiboxing) and 4 Horde 70's. Takes like 2hrs to make like 2k gold. Maybe 3 hrs depending on how many ppl are doing them at the time.
