View Full Version : Lotro
Currently dual boxing a hunter + minstrel in Lotro and thinking about adding a third char (my current chars are only lvl 23). I'm using Octopus 1.2.2, two pc's, and a razor tarantula. I know its essential to decide if the goal is Pve or Pvp, but for now I'm content building for PvE. I'm really mixed as to what to shoot for with 3 toons. Tank + Hunter (max dps) + Minstrel (heal). Or if it would be beneficial to exchange the Hunter with a Loremaster for cc ability. Higher level mobs and adds will definetly be a problem without adequate cc. Anyway just posting here in case anyone has some experience at lvl 50 and any helpful thoughts. Thanks...

+ cheers to Skarlot for an awesome program!

I'd go with the holy trinity setup , tank / dps / healer. Can't go wrong there~

Has been 2 months since I played LOTRO, and some things might have changed, but here goes:
For a trinity, you can go with tank/healer/dps... but in all honesty, it can be overkill sometimes. your minstrel in dps mode will be able to take down alot of stuff in the first burst.
Minstrel is not really a must (since you're not going to do instances with 3 man). You can go with LRM / Capt / Champion for example, for maximum buffs, 2 ''healers', 1 CC, 2 pets and an AOE dmg king. the LRM can also steal power from the opponent to pump the captain. LRM are also strong at debuffing, if you're doing tough 'elite' quests.
Hunters are stronger single target dps. To give an example, a hunter may hit a target for 800-900 dmg, while a champion would hit 3-4 targets for 500 odd dmg each.
Burglar and Guardian have skills that open up conjunctions, if you're into that as well ;)
I was actually thinking of a 6-box LOTRO combi, involving Mins/Mins/Capt/Capt/Capt/Champion tank haha :P Mins keeps up anthems and ballads and AOE heals, Capt spot heals with WoC/Shieldbrother/Victory cries, Champion just aoe tanks everything. Later on Capts get a pain-suppression like skill (And you get 3 of them ! ) .
thanks for the input don, good stuff that i haven't considered.... just as an aside i've seen three different groups of quad+ champs running around in identical gear.

I have been running 3 hunters. I am currently at level 21. I group frequently with a guardian and it is nice for when things get within melee of me, but I do a good job of not letting things get within melee of me. I have hit a group of 6 mobs that were one level higher then myself and was only in melee with 2 of those mobs for a short time before killing em. I look forward to a full group with my 3 hunters and think that the best combination would be to add a min for heals, then either a LM or Burg for some CC on multi pulls and a Captain for buffs. I can arrange my hunter around the main group and bounce agro from one to the other if need be to keep the main mob from beating to hard on them in melee. It has been a lot of fun so far and I haven't even been getting much out of my second char on my main PC yet, mostly auto attacking and tabbing now and then, but once I get full control by broadcasting to that window full time, my 3 hunters will be even more impressive and fun to play.

Has anyone figured out a way to run the lotroclient.exe without having to use the launcher? It would be interesting to see if the new foreground lock feature of Keyclone could be used with LotRO, but that would require setting up a command in keyclone with its current implementation.
Havent used Keyclone at all so can't give you any thoughts on the config for it.
Just sticking with the Hunt/Min for now. Adding a third is a little too much. I wanted to, but I also want to be efficient in a group. And the combo I got now is pretty demanding esp if I am responsible as the pri healer. I keep freaking out when I level my toons I'm like noooooo not more spells/skills. LOL so much to work with and keep in mind.
Also heard a guy that went up to 50 with a champ/min combo. That also sounds cool, but hot dang do I like burning things down from range.... Warspeech Min + Hunter ranged/slow/traps = fun fun fun
accutally come to think of it 3 hunters is absolute sickness.. lol do the slows stack??? lay 3 traps and blast away got to be fun

3 hunters has been a lot of fun, all the same skills so it is less daunting as far as multi boxing is concerned (using different skill sets to fullest potential) The multiple slow debuff icons show up on the mob, but haven't been able to see that they do actually stack and slow the mob more. Will pay closer attention to that and see if I can tell for sure. I think not, but hopefully it does.
It is really fun to lay into a group of multiple mobs and use traps, slows and such to kill em all with little or no melee involved. Still have a lot to work out and improve on, but it has been a "blast" (pew1, pew2, pew3) so far and I look forward to the challenge of juggling more useful skills and getting used to operating the three of them in a more harmonious way as I get more accustomed to multi boxing and using the tools (Keyclone and it's features, macros, and any hardware tools I come to utilize) to their best effect.
