Wow, so this is quite a problem. I just finished reading through the 6 page thread about the guy whos accounts all got banned. I really had no idea before that that using accounts that werent in your exact name was such a big deal.

Here's the problem:

My younger brother had an account back when the game came out. My best friend also had his own. Eventually they both quit (a couple years ago). Somehow, and I really have NO idea how or why this happened, but my friend decided to play again and instead of using his own account, he used my brothers. We are all friends and I guess they somehow knew each others passwords.

Anyway, my friend started over on a new realm and leveled a rogue to 70. Recently, my brother tried to start playing again but it wouldnt let him use his old account. He asked my friend about it and my friend told him to just use [this] account (gave him his old account info).

So they didnt think anything of it and now my brother has a 70 priest on an account with my friends name and my friend has a 70 rogue on an account with my brothers name...

This wasnt such a big problem because how would they know? But now my brother bought a second account to multibox with and will be playing with two accounts with two different names...

Can anyone think of ANY solution to this?

Buy a new TBC box, and start a new fresh account. TBH, its hard to swallow now, but its even harder to swallow a big fat ban-stick after 70 levels of grinding.

I had 3 accounts and used my brother and girlfriends account for over 1-2yrs no problems I was only multi-boxing in instances though. SOON AS I started my 70 shaman group and was pvping in arenas I got 3 accounts banned for third party use and had to fax in proof of ownership(I got all the accounts back). Moral of the story have 5 accounts all in your name or none at all. Since then I bought a new TBC box X2 and rerolled 2 shamans to replace those 2, and 5 horde on magtheridon :).

Someone should sticky a new thread with just this.

Multiboxing == Lots of Attention
Lots of Attention == GMs looking into your account
Accounts with Different Names/Info == BAN

If Multiboxing == Yes
then OWN and be the ORIGINAL Owners for ALL Accounts (with the SAME info on all accounts)
else
BAN

If (Player.want(BAN)==false)
then OWN and be the ORIGINAL Owners for ALL Accounts (with the SAME info on all accounts)
else
BAN

Fixt.

Multiboxing has nothing to do with the banstick, other than the fact that the banstick will come faster the more times you're reported.

Multiboxing --> lots of reports
Reports + ToU-breaking actions = BAN

In the 50-59 bracket, 60-69bracket I had tons of whiners log on lvl 1 alts on my server to QQ daily. At 70 I didn't get as many QQers but I was still getting talked to by GMs 2-3 times a session if not more :P

You don't need the cd keys. They don't ask for that when you have to submit the proof of ownership. They have you fill out a form with your contact info and then send in a copy of your driver's license (or state ID/birth cert).

Actually, you do need the keys. My situation: lets say my name is John Michael Montgomery but I go by Michael. Well I have a tenadency to not always fill out forms the same way that ask for first and last name. Depending on the mood I will write J. Michael Montgomery, John Montgomery or Michael Montgomery. After seeing the ban post on here as well as other people discussing it I checked my 6 accounts (one for my son) and sure enough, I have used all 3 versions, so I emailed Blizz and they sent me back an email requesting a photo ID (has to be governmental), a form and the original CD keys. Unfortunately, this email is on my work computer so I can't copy and paste it now but I will be sure to do so first chance I get. Should be interesting when I send in the info though, I've been playing for some time now and if I remember correctly, I lost my first set of disks and had to buy another for a reinstall which will make that key wrong but currently unused, so hopefully not a problem.

Edit: And the keys have to be legible copies, you can't just write them down.

Ok. Here is the solution to the problem that we came up with, along with possibly an issue of my own.

We decided that since they have both leveled to 70 on opposite accounts already without any problems that it would make the most sense for my brother to just buy a new second account and use my friend's name for that also. This way he will have his 70 main and his two new multiboxers all under the same name, even if it is my friends. My friend is just going to continue playing on the account with my brother's name and no one else will be using any account with that name on it either. Also, they are the only ones who will be using each of the respected accounts.

My question --

I have 3 accounts now. Two are in my name, one is an old one in my brothers name that he never played. You are allowed to transfer a character from one account to another, so long as the last name matches. Do you think any problems would arise if I bought third account under my name and transferred my character to this account? I would then have 3 characters all under my name. The only possible problem is that one would have been transferred from an account with the same last name but that wasnt me.

I called blizzards billing line and asked if transferring a character from my brothers account was ok, this is basically what he said: "You are allowed to transfer a character to another account as long as the last name is the same. However, I would not recommend transferring a character that is on someone elses account to your. If anything shady were to come up in the future and your accounts were looked into, the could see this and associate you with account sharing."

So, I don't know if I should just restart that one or if I could have some luck in telling them something such as "the name on these two is my legal first name, the name i used for this one is my conformation name, can i change it so they are all the same?"

Fixt again Vyn :)

if (!Player.Want(BAN))
{
all_accounts.own = true;
all_accounts.details_same = true;
all_accounts.have_original_cds = true;
} else {
risk.ban = true;
}

Don't tempt me. ;)

Oh I'd love to, but I fear Suvega :p....apart form that, I think I just worked out where he cropped that name from, love her music :)

Serioously though it would be interesting to see what either of you come up with, would love to see Softie coding syntax (excluding hungarian notation since I already use it, and what I have gotten out of Code Complete v1 & 2) since it might give me an incite into how any demo code I might submit should look. Getting fed up at work, been considering putting my degrees and experience to work and trying to land a job at the campus, biggest issue I have is the whole work visa thing.

In regards to the OP, call me slow but I dont get why your brother doesn't just take back the account that's in his name, the friend take back theirs, swap money and tradeable items to each other and then just level up the chars they want on the accounts then. Yes they have to do the 1-70 again but it's seriously not that hard, and then they have 2 70's on the account and never need to look over their shoulders waiting for the GM boot to drop.

I had to send in 3 Keycodes of my WoW's ... So it depends on the situation. They handle each name problem as a unique problem it seems. (Wich is good ofcourse, every one gets full attention if they can help you out)

His priest has clost to full S3 and a bunch of vind. stuff where my friends rogue doesn't. I don't see any problem with them just switching names as far as Blizzard is concerned though. As long as the name is the same on all the accounts he plays it shouldnt really matter that its not his name.

If the account is not in their name, they have a risk (your brother & friend's situation). Its just a matter of if the risk is worth the reward to them:

Risk, something going wrong, & them getting banned from there account completely.

Reward, not having to level 1 lvl 70 again.

Personally I'd take the account back, & start over. At least then he doesn't have the risk of starting with "NOTHING!"

I'm only speaking from experiance as a multiboxer who played an account not in my name (Fake Name) & got that account banned with 2x Epic'ed out 70's.

Good luck with whatever you or your brother decide to do.
