View Full Version : [WoW] Looking for Arena/random BG/Daily group

So I'm completely new to multi boxing, but really want to try it out. I'll be starting characters fresh from level 1.
I'm looking for a comp that can do these things: 5v5 Arena, random BGs, and say Tol Barad/other dailies. I'm on a PvP server if that makes a difference.
My first instinct was Shadow Priest x5. They are pretty powerful individually, and I feel that they have good group synergy. I could "round robbin" (I think that's what it's called) silence and fear for CC, spread dots and burst. A mind blast/Death combo with dots ticking from 5 at the same time would be pretty powerful. Alongside that, they have decent defense with shields and dispersion.
I then looked at warlocks, as 5 rows of affliction dots is a LOT of damage. but they don't seem to survive all that well.
I looked at the classic elemental shaman set up, but I'm not really interested and they seem pretty squishy.
I also looked at an all melee set up; DKs or maybe prot paladins. But I'm unsure how melee will work out in a multi-boxing set up.
Basically; I just need a bit of direction on what is most effective. I don't plan on doing instances, at least not for a while.

4 DKs + Holy Pally / Disc Priest is most popular for what you mentioned you'd be doing. In terms of support on setting up the team, they're also probably the team that has the most threads on DB on HOW to do it.
You'd be surprised at how much survivability an Aff lock has. I roll a holy pally in a traditional 5s team and my healing after about 3 minutes was only marginally higher than the aff lock in the enemy team! I was silenced and Ccd a bit but drain health is amazing! I role a 3 demo lock team and they're fairly OP in BGs. If you're doing a 40 man CtA then aff locks are the way to go.

You can run 5x the same, or a mixture.
4x DPS with a healer is good boxed, as our strength is usually the focus fire.
But 3x DPS with 2x Heals could work, for a dot based team... say 3x Affliction Warlocks with 2x Resto Druids.
Whatever you decide on, use Recruit a Friend.
Level up a lot of combinations, generally 5x the same class at once.
Something that can "boost" other compositions if you're not already in the game with an account and toons on the account.
If you have an existing account with a booster, then boost the other four accounts...
In general (where A is an existing account), this is a good RAF chain:
A > B > C
A > D > E
Shaman are popular, as are Pallies, Druids, Death Knights, Mages, Hunters, Warlocks, Priests...
Really, whatever you enjoy playing is something worth consideration.

Thanks for the help!
I need to do some research on how the healing works in boxing set ups. 4 DKs/Healadin seems like it would be great for running instances as well. I'm tempted to go with casters; maybe 4 aff locks/shadow priests and a resto druid. Maybe I'll experiment with both :D
If there's any other class set ups people can think of, let me know!

For healing, you have a few basic approaches.
You can have a keybind, to do a heal on each of your toons.
Press this key, and have that heal hit the first toon.
Something like NumPad 1-5 = Small Heal or HoT.
And NumPad 6-0 = Big Heal or Fast Heal.
You can go with assisting the mob.
Either assist your DPS, and cast at the target's target.
Or target your tank/assist your tank, and go at it that way.
#show Flash Heal
<Insert Assist Here>
/cast [help][help,@targettarget][help,@targettargettarget] Flash Heal
Even if you go with another method, this is handy to have on one key, so you can heal people outside of your group.
You can also have an AoE Heal, on another bind.
If you're a Shaman, you could go with:
#show Riptide
/castsequence [@Tanks_Name] reset=5 Earth Shield, Riptide, Null
This is spammable, and will Earth Shield and then Riptide your tank.
After that, Null is not a recognized spell, so the sequence will fail (cannot advance) at that point.
But after 5 seconds of not pushing this macro, it will reset to the first spell.
If your software supports "Repeater Regions", that's probably a better method.
You get an addon like Grid+GridCustomLayouts or Vuhdo or Healbot, to display the party/raid alphabetically.
Have the Grid in the exact same position on all characters.
And then set the Repeater Region to send the clicks to your healer only.
If you're using Grid/GridCustomLayouts (my choice), you also need Clique to interpret the clicks; the other two are all-in-one addons.
If you're not using something that supports Repeater Regions, you can use HKN (free software) to add one, as detailed here: http://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/32741-HOW-TO-Earthquake/page2
Battlegrounds (excluding Rated) from a specific to the weekend bonus honor BG can be done with almost any group composition.
The larger the scale, the less optimal your team has to be.
If you're playing in a 10-man, your group of five should be fairly powerful and capable of smashing the opposition.
In a 40-man BG, it doesn't matter so much if three opposition players can consistently take out your five guys... as you're a smaller portion of the team.
Rated Battlegrounds, are like Arena...
You have to be very optimal to have any kind of a chance.
And chances are, as a 5-man unit with all your toons inflexibly in the same place... you won't be winning many of these.
Dailies, whether in Tol Barad or elsewhere...
That's more like the 40-man BG compositions.
A team like 5x <Insert Any DPS Class>, can do dailies or battlegrounds.
If you like something, try it out.
If you have Recruit a Friend, level a lot of combinations... so you'll have many options down the road, and have the flexibility to change your mind.
Some combinations I enjoy:
5x Feral/Resto Druids
- I've run this as 5x the same spec, predominantly in large scale BG's.
- As Feral, they were the easiest/fastest leveling team I've had.
1x Paladin & 4x Frost Death Knights
- This is my default team, for 90% of my play.
- Very strong in PvP, capable of getting 8 Arena Wins (for Arena Conquest points cap) usually in under 20 games a week, and dominating most BG's.
- Once they had full honor gear, most 15-man BG's were winnable too... not just the 40-man games.
1x Feral/Boomkin Druid & 4x Shaman
- One of the shammies is dual spec Resto/Elemental, in case I need a healer.
- The Druid runs Boomkin, with 4x Elemental... but can go Feral as a Bear tank too.
- A warlock in the place of one of the Elemental Shaman... or a Paladin in place of the Druid (who would then go Boomkin) gets the team the +Spell Power proc, for greater strength in PvE stuff.
- This wouldn't be the strongest PvP team (Arena etc), but would be fun in battlegrounds especially the larger ones.
5x Disc Priests
- Smite spam, heals your team and damages your opposition... very easy play style.
- You can round-robin the Fear Ward (and Glyph it too), so it is always on your lead toon... who will Mouse Broadcast a Mass Dispel, if your team is fear-bombed.
5x Beast master Hunters
- For PvE stuff, this team destroys.
- It has strong DPS for PvP too, but no fear protection and no heals/rez.
