View Full Version : Quick Trinity Bars Question

I'm hardware boxing two mages at the moment, and already finding myself running out of macro room.

I'm not very good at reaching a lot of keys (on solo characters I'm normally a clicker) so I went for having a macro for lots of spells with modifiers for various things (like using an item on one toon, but not another).

So I thought I'd go the addon route to try and maintain a managable set-up, got a couple of questions though for anyone who has used Trinity:

1. I've had a look and it seems that you can set bars up for different modifier keys, stupid question but does this mean I could have a bar with no modifier attached and fireball on the '5' button, then on my main a ctrl bar with poly on it and my alt has a ctrl bar with fireball on it (so if I hold down ctrl my alt keeps casting FB, but my main polys)?

2. I currently have the addon NumPad installed which lets me add keys for my numpad buttons (surprisingly enough given the name), can I a) leave it there and add trinity or b) uninstall and recreate it using trinity?

Edit: 3. My alt is currently running on a VERY slow laptop, is this addon likely to cause further latency issues or is it fairly non-resource intensive?

Thanks :)

1. Yes, you can do that.
2. I don't understand what this addon does. You can always bind numpad keys to any key on any bar you want, including trinity bars as well as the default action bars, using the key bindings interface. So yes, I suppose you can recreate it, unless I misunderstood.
3. No, it should be minimal. No large amount of data and no computing. 8)

You can set up as many bars with as many modifiers as you want -

for example a 'Ctrl' bar that only appears in orout of combat and auto targets your focus etc etc - mousover or always shown - and the bars can be any shape and size you like you can lay them out like yr keyboard and numpad etc - you need a lot less macros but it doesnt do [target=focustarget] you need to write those for your spells if you use them.

Highly recommend this mod - takes a while to get used to building a ui but once you get the hang of it is the very best around , v1 is still around so make sure you get the latest v2.x version

Thanks for the replies.

Tried setting these up over the weekend but I ran into a few problems (and then got sick so didn't feel like working on them):

1. I've set up my main bars (keys ` to = ) to switch for shift and ctrl
a) I can't seem to have paged actionbars with this set-up. Is that normal or have I used too many bars elsewhere?
b) I have a macro on my main to poly her focus on nomod or ctrl and then on the shift bar I have fireball (on my alt I have poly on shift), however it keeps returning a no target error when I hold shift down (so theoretically try to cast Fireball), any ideas?

2. I have another set of bars set-up to work off the numpad, with modifiers giving extra bars.
a) I can't bind Shift to the numpad keys, it binds to Home, Up etc. Is this just a keyboard thing?
b) I got around this by adding an alt bar (instead of a shift bar), but I can't seem to add any macros from my alt to it. Normal spells are no problem, but when I try and put a macro in it just highlights the button (or multiple buttons) but won't actually drop the macro in.

I have all of my buttons set up to actions, so not sure if I should play around with changing button types. Sorry, these are rather specific issues, but someone might know an answer.

) I can't seem to have paged actionbars with this set-up. Is that normal or have I used too many bars elsewhere?Do you mean that the bars dont change when you hold shift / ctrl etc? If so you need to 'redraw' the bar with the modifier key held down - i havent run into a maximum number of bars yet , very rarely i get a bar that wont target properly or the keybinds dont work , i just delete it and replace with a brand new one and this always seems to fix any problems

There's an option to have a bar 'paged' so that you can scroll through different action bars, like the main one on the blizzard default ui. With a little up and down arrow for mouse scrolling, or shift 1-6 to keyboard scroll through bars.

The modifiers are working correctly, so I get a new bar if I hold down shift or ctrl, but I don't have an option to scroll through different main non-modified bars.

This is a little annoying as I had my ui set up so that all my spells were on actionbar 1 (triggered by keys 1 to =) but I could press shift 2 to change to actionbar 2 (still triggered by 1 to =) and have my fishing and portal spells on that bar. I can provide screenies if that would help, I'm not very good at explaining things.
