View Full Version : [WoW] Advice please regarding my pure dps teams

I have a team with only warlocks and one with only mages, both 70+ now. However it is SO very annoying I can't be able to use the dungeon finder. I usually end up camping outside one dungeon, effective perhaps but not so fun playing the same dungeon over and over... :(
So now I'm thinking. Should I rearrange my groups, add a tank+healer and only use 3 dps? Or should I hold out and level them in battlegrounds instead?
My gaming style is playing battlegrounds, dungeons and old raids. Will I have more fun at 85 doing these things with e.g. 5 mages than a traditional group?
(I also have a traditional group with hunters at 85).

You could add an Elemental Shaman to either or both groups.
The Shaman brings buffs that are generally an overall DPS boost to a caster team.
Even if the Shaman is not Healer spec, they can queue as a Healer for the dungeon finder.
A tanking class is one of: Druid, Paladin, DK, Warrior.
Of these, the Druid can be an effective ranged DPS class.
While the Druid or Paladin can be an effective healer.
I'd probably add an Elemental Shaman and Paladin to one team.
(Whichever you'd like to take furthest in PvE type stuff).
And then an Elemental Shaman and a Boomkin to the other team.
You could ditch Shaman on both teams, but I really like Shammies on caster teams.

If I decide to use one group in battlegrounds instead, would you say warlocks or mages are most fun in the long run?

On my Pally/DK's team, I find Mages to be more annoying.
Because of the freezing, but aside from a small amount of time within their Iceblock, they're quite easy to kill.
A warlock can last a bit longer, excluding the Iceblock time.
But maybe that might be because of relative gearing; I've not gone and looked up gear level of solo toons that attack my five.
From a boxing point of view:
Mages would likely have superior burst, which is important in PvP.
Mages get the equivalent of Blood Lust / Heroism, plus Mirror Image...
Summoned Food and Evocation is fast recovery of health/mana, outside of combat.
You can polymorph players.
I'd think Affliction Locks with Siphon Life/Haunt or Demo Locks with Felguards and Soul Link... would be greater survival.
Destro locks would play similar to Mages.. direct damage and burst.
Locks also get Soul Stones, Health Stones and a pet buff.
You can round-robin AoE fear, and seduce players with the Succubus or stun them with a Felguard charge.
The Felhound can eat debuffs, on your toons or make other casters fairly miserable.
Melee, and in particular melee cleave, would be the largest threat to either team.
Neither has superb fear protection, or much beyond a trinket.
Both have AoE to break choke points (Blizzard and Seed of Corruption).
Tough call.
If its exclusively for Battlegrounds, I'd likely go Warlocks.

Thanks for great reply. :)
One more last question.
I already have a hunter team at 85 and also an extra hunter so I can remove tank and do pet-tanking instead with 4 hunters + priest. Would this setup be possible with warlocks as well, or would their pets be much worse at aggro holding than hunter pets?
I know void is the warlock tank-pet, but their aoe-threat ability seem to have been removed right? Last time I checked it seemed only to generate threat towards a single target. And felguards won't be able to survive as long as voids and their cleave can only hit targets in front of them...

From what I remember, the Blueberry or Felguard is a decent tank for non-heroic content.
But is likely not going to get your team far in heroics.
You could try Health Funnel and the Glyph for it, to see how that works.
Drain Tanking is another option, particularly if you had some way to trade threat from one toon to the next.
If you had the option of a legitimate tanking toon, and a healer.
You could build a PvE team.
Or if you had more than one tank and more than one healer, you could rotate them.

5 arcane mages are very good in BG's. You can pretty much two shot anything near you. (thats 10 arcane blasts).
Warlocks are pretty good but if you go affliction you would be tab targeting alot. Destro and Demo just don't have enough burst to really do serious damage. Affliction would be your best bet and honestly with 5 sets of dots running not to many people are gonna be alive near you. You are more suceptable to death as 5 locks tho.
