View Full Version : Dual Box Dungeoning a waste?

First of all, I'm really glad such a place like this exists - a lot of useful information, if you have the time to browse through it all. Forgive me if there's already something that answers my question; there's just so much info to try to take in.

My situation is this:

* I've got a level 70 pally & warrior as my PL toons, with decent (meaning blue) gear, and my goal is to train up a mage quick-like. My machine is more than capable of running the two accounts I own.

* I'm anti-social (kinda strange, why play MMOs and be anti-social?), so finding folks to fill the group while dungeoning just seems burdensome to me. I don't really have the money at the moment to expand out to 5-boxing, nor really the drive, seeing that I may switch games very soon (Age of Conan sounds nice).

My question: Is the experience worthwhile with just the 2 toons running the instances (following the strategy of Solo to 10, VC to 20, stocks to 25, SM Cath to mid 40s)? Or should I expect to just run each dungeon a couple times for slight boosts/gear and use my favorite quest leveling guides for real experience gains?

wow if you dont like talking to people you shouldnt do this.
if you just want to boost a mage why dont you just powerlevel it with your mains and grind it bigtime, its the quickest way to get up there

There is no doubt that Instance boosting is faster than questing if you have the right class and gear for the job. With slight slack I got my group of Shamans to level 40 in roughly a day /played powerleveling them in SM most of the time.
I'd say try it out, see what kind of exp per hour you get and compare it to the leveling guides, though I don't know if they've been updated after the leveling nerf/buff.

if you have a pally/mage, after you toon hits 11 he shouldn't do anything but instances, it is so much faster. I just started a guy doing this and he is 24 at 11 hours 45 mins played so far.

There are folks on here that have PL'd an alt to 60 in about 34 hours IIRC. Definitely faster to drag them through instances with your main.

It's definitely worth it, before I expanded to 3 then 5 accounts I was just 2, pulling my single alts through with my lock. Just quest up to the appropriate level for the dungeon. I'm usually Alliance so Deadmines at 10 or Stocks at 15. You could also bring along some lowbies to loot for you or charge them a little gold and you'll also get grouping bonuses. Sometimes I just couldn't stand instancing anymore so I took my alts questing. The 70' really makes any quest very easy and with the bonuses for quest turnins plus the reduced xp per level 20-60 questing can be a quick way to level too.

Check out Vyndree's recent video on tankadin clearing of SM, I tried it out on my 68 tankadin in Stocks yesterday and it works even faster than my 70 lock.

I would just add the caveat that you won't learn how to multibox unless you actually do it. Sure you can probably boost a team of 4 quicker on your main than you can level a team of 5, but once you start playing those 4 at higher levels where your main can't save you you're going to have to learn how to hit the right buttons.

The only think I have used my main for so far was to run my pally through the Wetlands for his first meeting with his 4 shammy buddies. We'll see -- maybe I'll bust the main out again if I hit some tricky parts.
