Changed the title of the thread to reflect general conversation rather than pre-order information.

Other TERA thread (http://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/47103-Terra-subforum) has been redirected to this one.

For those of you who were/are interested in TERA Online, En Masse Entertainment recently
opened up pre-orders on their site:
http://store.enmasse.com/store/tera/en_US/DisplayHomePage

Other e-tailers (http://tera-support.enmasse.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/224/kw/preorder) will be offering pre-orders soon as well.

Beta Test Schedule if you pre-order (http://tera.enmasse.com/news/posts/beta-test-schedule)

A little background on the game itself...

First off, it's not a WoW killer... so don't even ask if it is. It is, however, a nice break for the
traditional "lock-on" targeting that we're so very used to. In TERA you can't actually "lock-on"
to any mob (with the exception of a few spells) and everything is based on you actually
aiming your attacks/spells/abilities with your mouse just like a first person shooter. This means
that you are basically unable to multibox this game and you'd be stuck to playing solo.

Crum and I have been playing the Korean retail version on and off for some time now (Souca
also got a taste of some of the starting area) and we casually (very casually) leveled our main
characters to the mid-30's and numerous alts into the teens. Even in Korean, where we had to
figure things out and struggle through text that we couldn't understand, we still had fun because
the game itself looks amazing with its wide open environments, the fights are fast-paced and
movement intensive, and the plethora of scantily clad women scattered throughout the
land it was nice to have a break from your typical WoW/RIFT MMO structure. Don't
misunderstand when I say it has a different "structure"... there are still the same kill this and
collect that quests that you should normally expect in any MMO but, the game just has a
different feel to it.

Do note that it is a Korean MMO so it does have that Korean 'feel' to it. If you've played any
other Asian MMO then you know what I'm talking about; however, it's not a grindfest like you
would normally find in an Eastern MMO (at least up until the mid-30's). Leveling with 2 people
made things go much faster than leveling solo (obviously) but we constantly found ourselves
moving out of a zone before we were completely done with all of its quests.

If you've been watching this game for some time now... here's your chance to finally get this bad
boy pre-ordered. If you're just hearing about this game from me here today, I would say the
game definitely deserves a shot.

Here are two videos that I made since Crum and I have been playing to maybe give you a look at
what you might see.

I played the Mystic, which is the jack-of-all-trades in the game, and I will say the action-mmo element is a bit of a culture shock but feels very natural after a while. And after playing for a while you go back to traditional lock on targeting and mouse cursor will feel so... wrong. Standard attacks have to be aimed, and other abilities you need to lock on which is as simple as moving the reticle over the enemy/friendly quickly and pressing the hotkey again to launch it.

It will take some time to get used to, but the time will be well worth it. This is probably the best MMO I have ever played... and I can't even read anything it says haha.

Haha. It really does make the the lock-on targeting system feel lazy after you've played something like TERA.

On a related note, I'm very curious to see how it does with regards to gold sellers/farmers considering their regional IP blocking.

http://tera-support.enmasse.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/153

En Masse will block IPs based on region. Asia, Africa, Russia, and the Middle East are included on the block list. While we appreciate that there are players in these regions who would enjoy playing on En Masse servers, it's unfortunate that the vast majority of Internet traffic we see from these regions are from cyber-criminals relating to account theft, gold-farming and other hacking behavior.

Fascinating.

You could always use a VPN to connect to the U.S. servers from Korea which is exactly what
any gold farming service is going to do to bypass that useless IP ban. By no means am I putting
you on the level of gold farmers but, being an American who just happens to be overseas I
wouldn't feel bad for bypassing this restriction one bit. While I won't argue that it's against the
rules to evade the IP ban (and I take no responsibility for any action taken against anyone's
account for doing so), I will argue the ethics behind doing so because you're going to, in no
way, affect the game in a negative way (compared to the reasons stated in that IP ban article).
I used a VPN to connect to the Korean servers when I first started playing almost a year ago
but, I soon realized there was no actual restriction for U.S. IPs on Korean servers and people
(US/EU) actually speak English right in General chat looking for DPS/Tank/Healer for dungeons
and what not.

WoW...and I thought Barrens chat was bad. :/

Honestly the chat has been *really* *really* bad. But with so much new and shiny shit to look at, I haven't paid the chat box any attention what so ever. It also helped we were all on mumble together so there was no real need to type.

One thing that was really awesome is like SW:TOR has different phases when a zone gets populated, Tera has this same feature. It makes for camping an elite / spawn very easy since you can just hop channels until you found one that had fewer people trying to camp that particular mob.

I've been boxing Lineage 2 since it came out 8 years ago. boxed 2 complimentary alts profitably on retail, and up to 9 alts killing epic raids bosses on private servers. here is what i learned so far about TERA. this Unreal 3 engine can be window'ized and boxed as small as 800x600 and animations and details can be lowered. each paid account can hold as many as 8 characters. so the question is CAN WE BOX THIS?

I signed up for Test 4, which is 2 char per server to lvl.32 so hopefully I'll figure it out for myself, I'm just amazed that a game that's been out a year in Asia, does not seem to have this question answered yet... at least not in English

I know this game requires aiming to a hitbox which can vary in size based on the attack and size of enemy. what I would like to know is if any race/class/skill can "auto-hit" so a boxer can start hitting on one alt while supporting on another.

from what i can see watching various game play videos, the most we can do is hit with a DD, pull aggro to keep healer safe, stop hitting, switch to healer, heal party target or caste a fresh "healing wind" or "guardian armor" or "essense of recovery", switch back to DD, and continue hitting monster while benefiting from the support. if that's the best a boxer can hope to do in this game, it hardly seems worth the bother and monthly expense to box.

assuming we can't auto-hit at all, then my plan will be to make a warrior, because they can summon a 7xHP "shadow clone" that can distract mob and auto-hit for them, so at least while not controlling your warrior, he won't be pulling aggro and still taking damage. then my second in party alt would be a priest or mystic for heals and buffs. if anyone else has thoughts on what may be worth boxing here, please share them.

for example, many classes have skills that stun or trap a monster which would create an opportunity for a boxer to task switch to another alt for support or even to do more damage, so a kiter can trap a mob while a melee gets in a few good wacks. some classes have HP or MP self regeneration skills that take time and monster damage may interrupt, so you can use a boxed character to pull aggro while your main completes his regeneration cycle.

given that many game designers came from NCSoft, they continue to use Unreal engines, and charge monthly fees, i seriously doubt the game server has mechanisms to discourage boxing. most likely it's the game play itself that requires so much intime and accurate interaction that will impede most boxing activity. this is why anyone who has played various races/class in closed beta already, should start thinking now on what combinations of characters could make dual boxing worthwhile.

so i played test.4 usa this weekend, and studied boxing potential and here is what i can report;once fully installed and patched the game sequence seems to run as follows;(what happens when you run each file directly)

c:\games\tera\tera-launcher.exe (loads launcher, launcher loads updater(as needed) then game)
calls
c:\games\tera\client\tl.exe (can't fine ssnl)
calls
c:\games\tera\client\binaries\tera.exe (you must run game with launcher)

so as you can see, with 2 full copies of game, you can't simply run this twice even with 2 accounts. my guess is the only way you can come close to boxing this is running 2 virtual machines on same PC :p or 2 PC's each running 1 game over a LAN joined to the same router then ISP modem - cumbersome.

http://i.imgur.com/zIhtY.jpg (http://imgur.com/zIhtY)

after playing game for nearly 12 hours, it's very quest intensive, so you run around game map a lot.this makes boxing less relevant, since boxing is most profitable if you need camp a spot and kill stuff. also various buffs seem to last 5-10 minutes, so if you want to XP a buffer to box, it will be difficult to grind her without questing her too. i'm not sure if any magic alts has a sort of summoning skill where you can bring your buffer and/or healer to your location as needed, but regardless, i think you'll be better off simply joining and active guild - then bothering to box here. so, sorry to put a kibosh on boxing hopes for this game, but i just don't see a easy solution or acute need for it with Tera Online.

if you COULD box this game, you WOULD box a Mystic who at level 28 can;

regen her own mana, create and drop mana and health potions in an area,
Mystic can also put out a speed and critical damage reduction area buff,
Mystic can also keep a pet around to pull aggro away while she's boxed.
in addition, this game has a "follow" feature so you could tether your
Mystic to your damage dealer as the damage dealer moves around.

the only problem is YOU CAN'T BOX THIS GAME... read my post above

I tried to box the game with 5, in the OBT. The Follow command easily breaks when performing actions and their is no easy way to refollow in individual toons quickly enough. I have also attempted to 2 box manually which sort of works out, but still a pain. I currently use 5 machines so the launching of multi clients isnt really an issue anymore, which i also believe was fixed in the dev version of ISboxer.

As for healing i have a Mystic and Priest at 32 right now for Launch/Early Start. Your AoE healing abilities are not entirely just aoe around the caster. Sometimes their 10 Yards in front then a 5 yard wide aoe circle will be put there. Sometimes it 10 yard AoE from the center of your toon ie: Circle of Healing and your AoE cleanse. Your primary heal is Targeted/Multi-targeted ability. You also get a high powered high cost Heal that drops a Aoe Ring in front of your toon that 10 yards, and only hits 5 targets within that circle, not incluing the caster.

If there was a way to figure out officially how to box successfully. This game gives major xp boost to grouping not to mention group gathering nodes, which means farming mats will be a good source of income.

There was someone on the isboxer forums that said he was successfully boxing with 5, but i havent heard from him on what he was doing or how he was doing it. He stated per his post that he was able to box and do the first dungeon. I personally had major major issues with targeting and following multiboxing.

At this point i am for sure will probably be pocket healer (Mystics buffs benefit melee more-so then the Priests)boxing with a priest as he heals better with my main being a Lancer as their is a huge huge shortage of tanks in the 2 servers i played on during OBT. Their were damn near 10 to 12 groups LF tanks to do SM (second Dungeon)

candlebox
04-25-2012, 04:27 PM
I am probably going to run a lancer. I just seen a guy solo SM, and i think it would be nice to heal up between fights. That way you don't have to wait for the fire pit to restore mana.

Im sure it will be different at higher content...just a thought though.

The campfires are mostly for regen'ing lost Stamina which affects your stats depending on how you have (or don't have). Also, there is a 30 minute lockout on an instance after you finish it. Not sure if the lockout timer is something that is bound to change in the near future or not.

Yeah, in the other thread (http://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/47103-Terra-subforum) it was mentioned that Dragonfall was where most people were gravitating to who didn't want a PvP rule set. I don't want anyone to feel left out but but... Svper, Crum and myself had planned early on to roll together in a harder-core guild.

I really had no idea anyone here was seriously looking at this game (since multiboxing it would be pretty rough) but, we're currently looking to join the guild Precision. None of us have any pull in the guild and we're going in blind so, I can't guarantee that anyone can get in or stay in once they filter out the unnecessary people (at this point, I can't even guarantee we won't get ourselves thrown out ;) ).

From my understanding, guilds with more members can boost their 'praise' quicker. 'Praise,' from what I'm told, is guild rank and guild rank helps during the race for Vanarch. However, that's just one route to becoming Vanarch and isn't the end all be all.

Precision is spamming for members and then they plan to filter out people that don't meet their standards after the release on May 1st. It is a little more difficult to see how someone performs in this game because there are no DPS meters, boss mods, etc; so, if someone is being evaluated, it'll most likely be while fighting a BAM in the world or during an instance or what not. Even then it's still tough to see WTF is going on with each party member at all times because those fights can be quite hectic although, people who can't seem to get out of way of the 'fire' tend to die quickly and often.

Several of us are on Dragonfall, i know there are a few others from the forums on the various pvp servers.

I have tried to 5 box myself and found it very very difficult due to camera positioning, forward targeting, and basic following is a PITA. Since most of the abilities are produce in the direction your character/camera are facing it can be very difficult, even with ISboxer. I'm still have hopes that we will eventually to box it even with some limits.

I will be resorting to dual boxing the manual way assisted by ISboxer for primary hotkey broadcasting (Aiming does not pass through on ISboxer as of yet since i last tested in the OBT).

This game has restored my solo play enjoyment however, so my reasons for dual boxing is purely farming mats and having a pocket healer for my tank.

I also vote for a Tera subforum. I just downloaded it and would like a place for us to talk about it, boxing or no (even though this is a boxing forums, its still also a gaming forums).

But yay, we have a thread in the off-topic of all places <-- yes, heavy sarcasm there

In other news, is the aiming combat system affected by latency? Australians get higher (much higher, 10x plus) latency than americans and europeans and I'm guessing we might experience a lot of misses due to us looking like we will hit, but the person/mob/target is actually a few feeet away from that spot

Khatovar

I agree with what Svper said in the other thread. There's no need for a subforum for a game that's not even being boxed. This is a site about multiboxing, not video games in general. If we put up a brand new subforum for every game out there, we'd have to scroll through dozens of dead subforums to get anywhere. As it is most of them can go months without seeing a new post, and that includes spam posts.

Goofy packs? If I think I know what you're talking about, those are probably there so you can feel like badass when using your AOE abilities. I don't know why they're really there, maybe to make you play a little more careful because you have to dodge more incoming attacks. /shrug

Yea, it might just be in the noob areas.. but there are tons of these mobs that are all tied together. One big leader type mob and a bunch of little ones. Just looks silly to me. If D3 was not out i might have given it a chance, leveled up more to see more of the game. I do like the ability play style for sure. And its a good looking game. I'm just invested in EQ a lot atm..will probably just play that and D3 until MoP comes out. But i am keeping an eye on Tera for sure. Tried GW2 beta, not sure what i think about that either.

They are there forever. Minions are kill and quest fodder. They do not go away... Ever :-( As much as i liked Tera, it already quit playing. Leveled to 42 or so on a few classes. Its not bad, and i do not hate it. I really have no idea why i cant keep playing it really. Burn-out maybe or overload with everything else to play..

For new and aspiring TERA multiboxers wondering if it's possible to launch multiple clients, here you go:

Yeah, I can get about 9 instances open before my computer takes a huge Cleveland Steamer on the floor.

nice picture - meaningless but nice.

so can you box 2 characters in the same party on the same screen on the same server at the same time?

all i see are server choice menus.

From your prior post in this thread:

Nitro if you really got this working, can you post some proof - I can't find ANY evidence that your solution is a viable one.
You wanted proof, you got proof -- Derp.

Where do you get two? I see five screens in my screen shot.

As I've said before, I only have 1 account with no desire to multibox this game. How do you propose I log in one account five times to the same server? If you could post something useful in this thread someone might take you seriously.

Just another person puffin smoke out trying to get their post count up,

Or a genuinely absent minded person that has no idea what they want or what they asked for.

Either way, opening multiple instances is very easy and has been proven doable. Boxing of this game is a different story and I would never want to, the logistical nightmare far outweighs the fun factor in my book.

It's like... I can eat beef or swallow glass, may as well eat glass cuz it is almost impossible and will make life miserable.

So has anyone multiboxed to level 60? Like not running different classes, just the same class so you can kind of broadcast the same hotkeys.
I've tried using HKN but for some reason I can't move when I have HKN on but everything else works fine. Anyone know what the problem is?

Saw this and thought I should mention it if anyone was wanting to try the game.

Amazon is running a special on TERA where the regular edition is $9.99 and the collector's edition is $14.99. If you get the regular edition, you get $9.99 in Amazon credit that can be used to buy another TERA copy. Offer good until 11:59PM September 22nd.

since this game is going free to play Feb 5th 2013, and nobody here has of yet bothered to explain
how to dual box this game (thanks for nothing) i thought i would post how i finally manage to do it;

STARTING:
start launcher, login, start game, select a character and get it into game.
close launcher while keeping open the game client with your character active.
open launcher again, login (different account), start game, select a character and get into game.
you should now have one launcher, and two separate characters, accounts and clients running.
CLOSING:
close either game client (does not matter which one you do first), then close the other game client.
you should notice behind the black launcher screen (when minimized) is now a new white error message window.
close the white window first, then the black launcher window.
if you don't do it in that order, you may have to restart the launcher several times to get back in game later.

I have used the above method three times each day, playing 90 minutes each time,
for the past few Months on the same 4 core 4Ghz 8gb Win7ult PC in two 1440x900 windows.
performance'wise the second client adds 50% more CPU,RAM,FPS utilization to both
game windows, so plan your multi boxing and hardware accordingly. you can always
reduce this impact using smaller game windows, but then it can be difficult to play them.
i primary a mystic with a boxed priest on follow for buffs only, so this works out fine.
priest buffs add 10-20% more party defense and offense, than mystic aura/buffs alone.
with this game going F2P you can expect boxing either class of healer to become popular.

if you want to remove the splash movies that delay the starting of each game client, use this updated solution;

Because having a toon on follow casting buffs is not really multiboxing.

A lot of us started that way 10 years ago (damn, hard to believe it's been that long), then transitioned into broadcast keystrokes/clicks with wireless keyboards or keyclone/hotkeynet/octopus/custom software.

Back in 1999 when i was playing old Everquest boxers mainly just had a toon on autofollow just for buffs and heals. Thats how i started multiboxing with a warrior and a cleric. I eventually moved up to 5 boxing in old Everquest till SWG came out and I started boxing it.

Went free to play last month so I downloaded this again yesterday and fired it up.

1) legacy accounts don't have to pay anything for full char slots and bank slots (yay!)

2) I lost my mains name in a server merge :( Am now on "mount tyrannas".

3) They still haven't fixed the char select screen problem, remember to close your client or it will sit burning 80% of your GPU all night!

Also, anyone else considering trying tera should wait to make their account until after midnight tonight, there is a "no sleep till 60" promotion that starts at that time and you earn some extra in game rewards on new accounts if you start after that:

For some reason I cannot play it. I've created an account (and verified it), however I keep getting user authentication failed when I try to log in.

you didn't get an account armor popup? that's weird.

Whenever I try opening a support ticket on their website or starting the live chat I get that popup.
I copy paste the code from the mail, and then get a message saying my account cannot be updated or something.
And they have no phone support any more so I can't really do anything :(

I ran a warrior/rogue and a druid in EQ1 in a guild called Legacy of Steel, only a few people knew I was both characters :)

Just started to play this today and so far I am loving it. It is so much like Monster Hunter and I love that game, mostly the combat. So if anyone is looking for a great game to switch to from wow this is a good choice of course there isn't really a way to box it because it is so depended on real-time movement but I am very satisfied with it so far.

Just my 2-Cents;-)

I have been trying to setup auto follow or an easy way to follow for a while now in tera and its not going well..The easiest way ive found is to edit the quick chat with /follow "name" but then u have to either alt/tab then hit q then the direction of your edited quick chat..wish there was a way to bind that to a specific key...ISBoxer doesnt work that well..with the mouselook movement ..Hotkey added alittle ease with clicking but aiming is turing out to be another task...without targeting/marcros/ or a customizable button bindings its way hard to MB. Overall i love the game just disappointed that its this hard to MB.

Anyone have any luck theyd like to share on setting up Tera mulitboxing?

Plus any Hotkey scripts would be nice. Launching via hotkey works but takes allot of fumbling around with.

If only there was a way to to clone mouse look between windows then you could do true multiboxing i had my cleric follow my barbarian around since he is heavy aoe damage it seems to work out healing i use aoe and cleric aoe attacks.
