Has anyone with 2+ characters had any luck having follow, assist etc working in BGs?

I am using Mosg2's setup, and it does not work for BGs yet, and i am curious if anyone has had any luck making a follow setup work in BGs.

one idea, would be to setup a 8 or 16 or however large the BGs are assist / follow keys, so you can just find your main in the list, and hit the button to make that toon the main?

im at work, so i cant test this right now, but we should figure this out, my marauders are itching to kill people! :D

I box with 2. I've setup 4 follow and 4 assist macros that target each group member. They all can be toggled off or on. They are all called in every macro I use that uses follow and or assist. By toggling the specific key map off or on, I can actually send just the appropriate assist/follows.

If my two characters target each other in group slot 2, I turn off the keymaps for slots 1 3 and 4 and turn on the keymaps for slot 2. It isn't perfect because occasionally character 1 sees character 2 in slot 2, while character 2 sees character 1 in slot 3. Normally however they see each other in the same slot and then either can drive.

There are a few hiccups in WZ's with pathing. For example in voidstar some doors and the retractable bridge your character will not autofollow on or through. On huttball your secondary character will also not autofollow over the flame grates. There are also a couple of pathing issues in huttball, but it isn't a major problem.

Using Variable Keystroke Actions you only need one Assist and one Follow key. Then you use one Set Target key (with up to two modifiers if you're triple- or quad-boxing) to change it on the fly ingame. Set up one to four identical key maps and disable the ones that each character slot doesn't use. This way the same key works for all slots and you can just switch character, hit the Set Target key and in a matter of seconds you have defined a new Lead for all your slaves. This works no matter what party member slot they see each other in.

EDIT:
If what I said didn't make sense (been awake for over 24 hours) I could make a short video guide tonight showing you how to do this, if anyone is interested. Right now I need some sleep though.

Dan, it actually *does* work for warzones. Since you're a premade group of 4 it auto gives you lead and places your characters in group 1 in the correct order.

I'd appreciate it! I'm 3-boxing so my 4th will change often when I need a tank for instances, join WZ's, etc.

The one problem with Chazz's system until he provides a walkthrough for everyone, is that on occasion character 1 will target character 2 in slot 2, and character 2 will target character 1 in slot 3. So far I don't believe he has provided a walkthrough to cover this occurance. This is the only thing keeping me from swapping over to his system as I've worked around this issue with the system I setup pre variable target.

It doesn't matter which slot any of your Slaves are targeting each other in with my system.
You just use your Set Target key to set the Target for Slave 1, Shift+Set Target key to set it for Slave 2 and Ctrl+Set Target key to set it for Slave 3. This works no matter which Slave you switch to as well, allowing you to Lead/Drive from any of your characters.
In my thread I also shortly explain another feature to this system that I use myself with VideoFX, which shows me the Target Portrait for each of my Slaves to make it easier to "set up".

So, if I run 3 characters and I jump into a warzone. I can jump between ANY character and the other 2 will automatically follow the new lead? If this is the case I might activate a third account. I don't want to run 4 because I think 4 is unweildy in warzones due to them being 8v8. I mean it can work. What held me back from 3 is the problem with the group randomly shuffling for the third person always.

They won't automatically follow your new Lead, but you can set the character that you just switched to as your new Lead using the Set Target key. Pressing it normally will cycle through F2-F5 for your first Slave and using it with the Shift modifier will cycle through F2-F5 for your second Slave . This takes seconds to do.

So let's say you're running three characters. You are Leading with Character A, but then you switch to Character B and want to Lead with that one.
At this point you press the Set Target key to cycle through F2-F5 for Character A, until he/she targets your Lead. And then you press the Set Target key together with the Shift modifier to cycle through F2-F5 for Character C, until he/she targets your Lead. Then you're done and your Assist and Follow keys will now make Character A & C Assist & Follow Character B.
The system takes into account which character you are using the Set Target key from as well, so the same keypresses will work on all characters (if you switch to Character C for example, the Set Target key will cycle through F2-F5 for Character A and using the shift modifier it will cycle through the keys for Character B).
Hope that makes sense!

Ya, I watched the video and got it. It's essentially the same method I use now. I set mine up before the set target command so I couldn't have one keybind cycle, so I setup 4 per character :)

Until some sort of simple macro system arrives I imagine 2x or 4x will be the easiest setups to manage.

For PvE I don't see any type of setup being a problem, but for PvP I would probably agree since you may have the need to instantly switch Lead if your Lead dies. Altough that should be possible to "fix" by simply using a similar system where you pre-define keys before a match begins. The potential problems that could still occur, off of the top of my head, would be if someone leaves the WarZone and someone else joins (assuming this is possible, I haven't done any PvP yet) and as a result shifts around the Party again that you are in with your characters. But other than that, and the hassle of cycling through keys before each match, it should work.

Is there some way you could use, "send this keymap when I switch to this window" so that it automatically changes your lead to whichever client you have in your main region?

I'm confused now. I thought you said your follow/assist system works regardless of which group slot your characters are in or who joins the 4th slot?

The only way to automatically change Lead to whatever character you switch to is to pre-define the Target keys for all of your Slaves. That's two keys for dual-boxing, six keys for triple-boxing and twelve keys for quad-boxing.
Reason for this being that when you switch character the others has to already know which Party Member Slot that character is in; and this can change if you have a wildcard slot in your Party.
Now, when I created the Set Target System I mostly had PvE in mind since I don't do PvP myself and I wanted the solution to be as flexible as possible. This is why you define the Target keys each time you switch character; to work in any situation.
That said, while it only takes me ~5 seconds to set up a new Lead using my system, I realize that 5 seconds in PvP can be a trip to the moon and back.

I've made a Version 2 of the Set Target System now that lets you switch Lead by just switching character. Unfortunately it seems to take ages for BioWare to register/activate my new account, so I cannot get ingame to make sure it works flawlessly and also shoot new footage for a Video Tutorial.
Whenever that happens though I will update my thread and post here to let you guys know.

EDIT:
Alright I'm ingame now and it works as expected.
Not sure if I have time to update the guide tonight as I have work to do, but I could try updating it tomorrow night when I get home. Celebrating a birthday (not mine) tomorrow night though so it depends on my current 'state' when I get home as well. Altough who knows, maybe being a little tipsy will make me explain things more clearly. :p

I work night shift, so maybe I'm over tired, but your response left me more confused :D

When you say you're defining the target keys, you mean you're quickly tabbing to each client and using a hotkey to manually set your lead? I think I'm confusing myself more, I might just have a go at setting up your system so I understand it better.

No, it's all done from the Lead character.

I have made the update to Version 2 now which allows instant Lead switch.

It was difficult to understand just by reading. However, once I started installing it and setting it up it was very simple and works nicely.

Great work, mate.

Thanks! Great to hear it worked out for you! :)
And yeah, I figured it could be a bit hard to grasp completely by just reading which is why I created the video for the original version, I might make a short video later for version 2 as well.
(hope you are using version 2, for dual- and triple-boxing it's much superior)
