How are you guys handling the crew skills; do you only use your primary character, or have you been working multiple characters with different sets of skills.

Thus far, I have not found an efficient way to utilize my other character as both the camera and sloppy user interface getting into position to click on nodes.

Planning on setting up a new Sentinel team tonight, to give the “light” side a go and would appreciate any feedback on skills that anyone may have.

Ive handled this a few ways between groups. One group, I have each toon their own gathering, and crafting that compliment the individual character. The other group, I have just selected whatever I felt like I will need, and then whatever gathering I DONT have on the server with other toons... this way I have a full spread. Pros and Cons... really, they're pretty obvious. the lack of a central bank is a nightmare to deal with when trading stuff from one toon to another.

Short answer.. no, I do not believe there is a good way of doing it. If you run just two accounts, I would probably just setup a video feed from one and run the other, watching two maps go by... swap to the other toon, when you see something you may want.

Thanks; that is how I have been doing it, and its no fun - wish they would add the smart camera so that our alts look the same way as the main...I know so many things of greater importance still need to be worked out.

Thats really good advice! My toons just reached lvl 11 and I need to do crew skills. I'm thinking synth weaving and cybernetic for crafting. Let you all know how it goes.

i always have biochem, boinaylisis and a random gathering skill on the main toon... biochems medpacks, stims and implants are the best choice for a tank IMO. The 3rd gathering skill supports whatever armor type that toon is. and one of my alts have the armor skill. With 4 accounts, i have everything covered.

I'm going to try something similar. I think I'm going to go all gathering on the main toon and have the others cover crafting and the rest of the missions. I also have a lvl 30 shadow that can do synthweaving so I might not do that at all.

Once you get into tier 3 and tier 4 stuff the missions are a half hour long or more. I have all my guys as biochem because its value isn't linked to whatever the current max level of gear is--I always have the best stims, adrenals and medpacs available :)

My highest toon is only level 29 so I don't have alot of experience with crafting.

A couple of questions:
1. For "value" do you mean to you (usefulness) or are you selling what you make?
2. Are you saying that you've maxed out your biochem early (before 50) because you can make and use the best stuff at lower levels?

my warriors are all bio as well.. my toon i leveled solo to 48 made them all the purple reusable medpacks to last though lvl 40 or so. love it! I might do the same for my sorcs. even though they can heal.. the free heal saves power 8)

Once you reach 50 tradeskills are a joke. Everything you do just piles in the credits and with 5 companions you can max out any tradeskill, in a single session of play. The mission ones take longer, but not by much. If you really want, start with something like artifice, max it out on everyone while doing dailies and a few easy hard modes like BT and BP for the crafting mats. Build your Bind on Pickup Rakata items like the relics and dump the skill. Once you have all your end game items, then finish with biochem because it's the only tradeskill that requires you to actually have the skill to use the items.

Thanks for the input lyonheart and starbuck!

I think I'm going to have bio on two, cyber and artifice on the other two. We'll see how it works out. When I get to 50, then I'll do what starbuck was talking about.

My problem with tradeskills (except Biochem): anything I can make is generally inferior to what I loot or obtain from quests. Granted, my highest level characters are only 36, but in Synthweaving, Artificing and Armortech, anything I skill up to be able to make is inferior to what I am already wearing at that level. Does this get better by 50? Or is it always the case? Maybe there are schematics I don't have - I only have gotten a couple from various quests, so that could make a difference.

I haven't had much luck Reverse Engineering items either. Aren't you supposed to get schematics from doing that?

I was able to keep (2) characters crew skills current before I transferred servers; pretty much kept my companions running missions full time as I did not need them to aid in questing.

With the arrival of (2) fresh SWTOR CD’s arriving tomorrow thanks to Amazon my plan will be changing to have all my crew work on the same skill, max out, and then drop leaving Bio-chem for last.

Yes, you get schematics from reverse engineering. Here is a lengthy discussion that explains in great detail how RE'ing works.

Wow... my head hurts now after reading that. Especially trying to follow the flowchart :)

I can see I'm not RE'ing nearly enough.
