With my Melee heavy group I drive from my DK Tank.
pros: Easier to both Tank and Position. Easier to track tank cool-downs.
cons: A bit slower to reach to expectant issues. slower to heal.

With my ranged group I drive from my healer.
pros: better healing healing and CC.
cons: harder to drive the melele's and tank

On a PvE group, I drive with the tank.
Doesn't matter whether the group has melee or ranged primarily.

In PvP, in combat I drive with the healer toon.
But in non-combat, I lead with any of the DK's, because they're the same speed but the Pally is faster...
If Crusader Aura is on, I also find it better to not lead with that toon.
For my Ferals, which is 5x the same spec... I generally lead with "Ualaa", but mechanically they're identical.

My teams are all by the tank (PvE).
Easier to see what the tank doesn't have threat on, and that's always the biggest unknown. Healbot healing is via mouse repeater regions, and the dps can take care of themselves mostly.

I always drive from the tank. I've never seen slower healing just because I'm not on the healer. Leading from the tank makes it easier to micromanage things, like cooldowns or movement and gives me a better viewpoint.

Same here, always drive from the tank (but i only PVE).
Repeater regions for heals are not slower than from the healer itself, and i like to be able to react with the tank immediately, for example to click-target and taunt a loose add or something

I usually drive from the guy that gets aggro. In WoW/Rift/etc. it's the tank, and in EVE Online it's the first (usually) guy I warp into a mission. I usually do this because positioning of a boss or a room-full of aggro is easier than targeting/assisting with the alts, even the healer/salvager.

EVE is a little bit different, as I have 5 guys capable of tanking, and ISBoxer makes it pretty transparent regarding which one I'm driving.

PVE - Most situations the Tank
PVP - If I'm running melee + 1 healer I play from the healer POV.
- If I'm running dps, I'm typically running 4x The same class, and don't have a special toon I lead off. I setup the UI the exact same on all 4 and lead off whoever I need to.

This thread is interesting to me because I am trying to get the hang of a 4 DK and Priest PvE group and I am having trouble with Stonecore. Part of the problem is the lack of CC with that group using 4 blood spec, so I am experimenting with Blood and 3 Frost for Hungering Cold as CC.

I am driving with the Priest, but now I am thinking that perhaps I should be driving with the tank. Food for thought.

I used to drive with the tank for PVE but have switched to healer instead. I feel it allows better movement for ranged dps when the aoe damage comes in.

I only switched after experimenting with a 4 dk plus 1 priest team a while ago and found it better than leading with a tank....felt more like a hunter and a pet arrangement with the dks being pets. Anyway, I've changed all my teams to be lead by healers now.

Everyone hates lag. Its even more important to us because to to the assist mechanic. Currently when the master tells the slaves to assist him you would think in a perfect world it would happen instantly since all five toons are located on the same computer. But the assist command goes to blizzard server then it jumps back to your toons clients. It's can sometimes take a relatively long time. So that's why you should drive with the tank so your tank can react quickly to adds or over zealous dps classes. At least in PVE instance scenarios. World quest content is usually pretty trivial. Zorbathegeek had a great isboxer FTL targeting guide to keep your toons focused on dpsing down mob in situations where the main may be tanking or off tanking different mobs at any given moment. Just google him and FTL targeting.
