Lax, quick question before I delve into swapping over to this method. Will this work in say a 3 man group where a 4th random player can screw up your group slot order?

It can work, yes. It won't work "out of the box" as detailed because the correct solution to "Target Slot 2" may change from F3 to F4 or whatever as I am sure you realize.

But you always have the option of going into ISBoxer and adjusting it and Exporting, or you can use a Set Variable Keystroke Action (http://isboxer.com/wiki/Set_Variable_Keystroke_Action) to set it during gameplay to known values. A near-future release will also have an in-game interface to set Variable Keystrokes per window.

Any chance for a "talk-to-me-like-I'm-2-years-old" explanation for how to use Set Variable Keystroke Action?
This is what I've done;

Created a Variable Keystroke called Target, set its default key to F2.
Created a mapped key called Target Test, within Step 1 in this mapped key I chose New Variable Keystroke Action and chose Target in Variable Keystroke list.
Created a mapped key called Set Target, within Step 1 in this mapped key I chose New Set Variable Keystroke Action.
I set this action to;
Target: All windows w/o Current
Key Combination: F1
Variable Keystroke: Target

This was just to try it out. The result is that when I load everything up and hit the Target Test key, it uses F2 and my slave targets my leader. When I then press the Set Target key and then again press Target Test, the slave now targets himself.
The problem; when I reload ISBoxer the Key Combination set in "Set Target" is gone.
This first lead me to believe that I needed to hold down the Set Target key and press F1 to bind it (while ingame), but that didn't work.

My goal would be to have four steps in Set Target, to toggle through F2-F5 as needed and then use Target (the variable key) in my assist key.
I'm probably doing it all backwards and upside down, so feel free not to be too harsh on me. :p

I think you may have discovered a bug. I can confirm that the Key Combination for a Set Variable Keystroke Action is not read correctly by ISBoxer upon reload from xml.

This bug should be fixed in 40.0.0121.2, available through Help->About. :)

Ah, and here I was thinking I was clearly using it wrong.
Lovely, I can also confirm that it does indeed work with 40.0.0121.2!

Thanks for this Lax, with this and the Click Bar & Repeater setup for healing I can actually play with other players in my boxing party now as well without the headaches!

Chazz - What is your click bar and healing set up? I am just curious, as I have been experimenting with SWTOR and can't get anything working very well... I play with my wife as a third in a group, so I am trying to build in some flexibility like you mentioned. Thanks

So, basically this abstracts the FTL setup up one level from character to slot?

It's abstracting FTL-like setup, yes, but not from Character to Slot. It was always configured per Slot. :)
