For PVP it is clear that a Paladin is a better healer due to damage mitigation of plate and some other abiltiies. However, to gear up, what makes a better PVE healer for a team of DPS Shaman or DPS DK - a Paladin or Resto Druid?

I would say Paladin. Their style is more reactive, while a druid is proactive. In my experience, reactive healing styles are the the easiest to multibox.

I tryed healing with a geared holy pala vs a ungeared resto shaman and the shaman was a lot nicer for me. ES, Healing Raid end Chainheal are just so good. Maybe with the new radiance on the pala the AOE healing is a lot bettter tho.

Disc priest by far my friend. On my disc priest I use this spec: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/magtheridon/Disciplecow/talent/primary I have a cast sequence macro that casts Holy Fire and Smite constantly and ocassionally I have to rebubble/penance my tank. Its so easy running heroics/non-heroics. I don't think I have ever casted heal / Greater heal. Between the damage healing, shields and pennance not to mention the occasional flash I have no problems. One suggestion, there are two glyphs I am not currently using but I do use when not doing pvp, glyph of divine accuracy because when smite or HF misses your tank gets no heal and glyph of smite which incrases damage making the heal larger. Prayer of Healing glyph is the last one that is must have because the Hot It leaves behind is amazing.

priest. I'd prefer holy over Disc since Prayer Of Healing is just awesomeness.

I agree. Disc priest is quite awesome. I found that holy relies on a bazillion spells to keep up with a disc spec that only requires a handful.

For leveling through cata instances no healer made things easier than a priest.
80-85 i went disk and pretty much smite healing and renew was good enough with 4x blood dks.
For heroics i went holy and the AOE healing is just great.
With a holy pali ive never failed so bad in cata instances, the AOE healing was just really poor and wiped alot.
At the moment im running 5 druids (56 atm) and resto druid is rather nice and could go well with dks but still i love priest healing more than any other healer

I only have 1 healer at 85, a holy priest. I've been very dissatisfied with its healing, it seems so weak and it runs out of mana very fast.

Go disc and take the smite/HF healing talents. Prayer of Healing is still super OP as disc with the glyph. Holy is good for just spamming PoH and renew but thats not nearly as much fun as watching your healer pull 17k dps and almost never having to cast anything other than bubble.

Buy the tsunami trinket and the valor spirit trinket. If you like spec disc until you are a little more geared, but nothing in the world beats holy for sheer SAVE LIFE NOW power.
For levelling? DISC FUCK YEAH. I love having that bit of extra damage to help kill things and if you spend all of trash grouped up always, atonement will pretty much keep you from having to worry about anything but. Button 1 (cast shield at focus) button two (holy fire smite smite smite).
I'm consistently underwhelmed by shaman in healing contexts, one of my teams does have a resto druid and it does ok a lot of the time but I do use maelstrom procs on chain heal quite a bit in dungeons. Maelstrom is the best.

Wow, just switched to Disc healing and it's frickin great. Rarely runs out of mana, only if I am doing lots of chain pulling with no downtime, and only then the priest will drop to about 45% mana.
However, did they nerf prayer of healing? I remember that spell was pretty decent, but now it barely heals the group - you have to cast it like 4 or 5 times just to fill half a bar.

I have been leveling my 5 x paladin team and in the 40's range I don't think healing has ever been easier than with a holy paladin. Crusader strike + holy shock = 2 holy power for mostly free healing and tons of mana regen. Beacon tank and only have to look at my 3 rets as my HPally + tank get healed from each shock or word or glory. And what is not to love about 5 plate wearers with 5 consecrates and all the other cool abilities.

Pallies are not that bad at lower levels; however, when you get to level 80 and try and run with one you will shoot yourself in the foot. All of the bosses have some kind of AOE effect and it makes it all but impossible to keep up healng especially for 4 melee.

Yeah I used to heal at 80-85 on a pally in PVE 5 mans, heroics, raids and Arenas... they aren't all that great but you can heal with no mana... I haven't played the pally at 85 since 4.2
