Ok i have never really played a rogue i gifted one to 60 cause i always wanted to play one. First of all whats the best spec and second of all what kind of macro set up do i use to get max dps out of her. Once i get the solo down i will add 4 more to the mix. I just rather understand the mechanics of her solo first. Thanks guys.

What spec are you planning to play? I suggest playing Combat or Mutilate if you are questing or running instances.

For Engineering glove tinker and trinkets, I usually have it bound to my main ability (Mutilate or Sinister Strike) as well as for Fan of Knives. Speaking of main ability and FoK, I also use /startattack because your auto-attacks will not start until a successful ability is executed.

This is the macro I made/use for Combat/Mutilate. (You will probably have to change the spec numbers on it to match the abilities) I do not have any on-use trinket, just Synapse Springs on my gloves. The gloves will not active when out of combat to prevent wasting a cooldown when button is accidentally pressed.

#show [spec:1]Sinister Strike;[spec:2]Mutilate
/startattack
/use [combat]10
/use [spec:1]Sinister Strike;[spec:2]Mutilate
/run UIErrorsFrame:Clear()
#show Fan of Knives
/startattack
/use [combat]10
/use Fan of Knives
/run UIErrorsFrame:Clear()These are my Tricks of the Trade macros, you probably won't need them yet until you learn the ability in mid-70s. You can use to tricks the tank (recommended for instances) or another dps. (either pvp situation or during raid boss encounters)

Focus Macro (Will focus your friendly mouseover target, otherwise your target)

/focus [@mouseover,help][]Tricks of the Trade: (Will tricks your Focus, otherwise your target's target or the friendly player you are targeting)

#show Tricks of the Trade
/use [@focus,help,nodead][@targettarget,help,nodead][help]Tricks of the TradeVanish macro for when sometimes your autoattacks break you out of stealth

#show
/stopattack
/use VanishBlind macro that doesn't spam if you press your macro keybind multiple times

/run u,bl="target","Blind";if IsSpellInRange(bl,u)==1 and GetSpellCooldown(bl)==0 then SendChatMessage(GetSpellLink(bl).." used on "..UnitName(u)..". ~60sec") end
/use BlindThere isn't really macro that will play your rotation for you and do decent dps as a Rogue since combo points vary depending on crits/talents, Slice and Dice duration, Rupture duration, energy/procs and other cooldowns. When playing Combat, your Adrenaline Rush and Killing Spree cooldowns will vary depending on the number combo points used for offensive finishers. For Assassination, Seal Fate talent could grant you 3CP on crits and normal Mutilate does 2CP which will screw up your rotation. Either wasting combo points or using finisher before reaching 4-5CP. That's from my experience of having 7 Rogues (played both specs) and in the progress of leveling an 8th.

Here's a list of my macros I use for mine I solo with. He's combat spec and is good for better survivability if specced right. Right now mine is specced for raiding.

Poison application macro:
/use [button:1] Instant Poison; Deadly Poison
/use [button:1] 16;17
/click StaticPopup1Button1

Left click that to apply Instant poison to your main hand, right click it to apply Deadly Poison to your offhand, the StaticPop command will autoclick the accept button when you left/right click once.

Poison application to thrown weapon:
/use [button:1] Wound Poison
/use [button:1] 18
/click StaticPopup1Button1

Just left click that one

Main dps spam button:
/click BT4Button91
/castsequence [nostealth] reset=target/2 Shiv,Slice and Dice,Shiv,Sinister Strike,Sinister Strike,Revealing Strike,Eviscerate,shiv,sinister strike, Revealing Strike,Eviscerate,Sinister Strike,Revealing Strike,Eviscerate

I've got Shiv in there quite alot, cause even tho the offhand hits fast and alot, the chance on applying DP is always lower than what I like per hit and sometimes I've seen it get to 4 stacks then run out of time without applying the 5th without the Shivs in there. I still get good dps here.

my BT4Button91 macro
#showtooltip
/startattack [noform:1]
/cast [nocombat] !Stealth
/cast [stealth] Pick Pocket
/cast [stealth] Cheap Shot
/cast [nocombat] Recuperate
/use13
/use14

The /startattack [noform:1] is the command to only start attacking out of Stealth form
The !Stealth line only casts Stealth if I'm not in combat and will not turn it off if that ! is there
The Cheap Shot can be changed out to another stealth ability. Recuperate line will only cast that once out of combat and if any excess combo points are on a nearby corpse. This can be removed if desired once you get Redirect if you choose.

Interrupt/Sap+PickPocket macro:
#showtooltip
/cast [nostealth] Kick
/cast [stealth] sap
/cast [stealth] Pick Pocket

If you play Combat spec, when doing damage to mobs, you will always deal more damage spamming Sinister Strike, Shiv, or other main combo generating ability with Blade Flurry up than you would using Fan of Knives over and over. Same thing applies to my rogue and he's got the 397 thrown weapon and still does more AoE damage from BF than spamming FoK on mobs. DoT damage does not spread with BF, only white damage and combo generating abilities and is not divided amongst the mobs. Not that I've noticed. Someone else might be able to confirm that.

Feint spell helps out alot against AoE damage, so try to keep that at the ready in either soloing or multiboxing. Same with Recuperate. Grab the talents that boost healing on you, especially the one in Assassination tree that boosts healing on you by 20%, healers will really like you in their group then.

The above dps macro, is for straight dps only, the following is one I use for one on one fights and or pvp:

/click BT4Button91
/castsequence [nostealth] reset=target/2 Shiv,Slice and Dice,Shiv,Sinister Strike,Recuperate,shiv,sinister strike, Revealing Strike,Sinister Strike,Eviscerate,Sinister Strike,Revealing Strike,Eviscerate

You can play around with the order of these and change to your liking, but these two ensure that SnD and Recup stay up at all times, even when using Adrenalin Rush or have either Time Warp or Heroism up. Be sure not to use Adrenalin Rush then Killing Spree, you will waist your AR. I tend to pop Tricks of the Trade on the tank, then hit KS, then AR once I'm able to attack again, then keep TotT on him every chance it's off cooldown. If you watch and time it right, you can use them in that order pretty often within long boss fights. Just be sure to use KS after TotT to a tank. It'll boost their threat alot more and especially if you wait till you've got 5 stacks of Deadly Poison on that target first. KS will also spread damage with Blade Flurry as long as the mob is all within melee range of each other, typically about 3-5 yards apart is the reach of the spread for BF.

All else, read up on the ElitistJerks.com forums. That's how I learned to play mine and I use that site for all classes as a guide. Good luck on your endeavors and hope you enjoy the Rogue class.

You'll see it in the guide on EJ's, but as Combat, be sure to keep Slice and Dice up at all times and stack haste for faster energy regeneration and more hits. They say to use Adrenalin Rush with a Time Warp and/or Heroism, but when I do at those points, I tend to be Energy capped for longer than I like. I'd suggest using it before and after the effects of those two wears off for longer Energy bursts. +70-90% energy regen is really fast returns, Hero and TW will boost it over 200-300%, and cause you to waste alot of energy, so test it out, watch your character sheet during combat and try to time them. Stacking Attack Power enchants on weapons is a great way to boost dps, but if you can't always afford them, like Landslide, haste boosting is also a great alternative like Hurricane and others with these effects. They do infact stack, so Landslide on both hands will get you periodic +2000 AP if they proc at the same time.

Solo Raiding - Sub > Combat/Mute single target dps
Some fights like Ultraxxion for example you have to go combat or mute

Multi-boxing I always stick with Combat/Mute, either one is very easy to multi-box with.

For learning the mechanics of a rogue I'd suggest using mutilate or combat, as these specs have very forgiving rotations and no position requirement.

I still havent found a good macro rotation for raiding. Something always gets stuck like revealing strike saying there is already one more powerful on target.

OK thanks guys ive been working on her alot cause i want to get to know the only class i never played. My issue is i wish energy would replenish faster for me. Ive got the whole stealth cheap shot sinister revealing sinister then kidney and repeat. Although, sometimes when i go for kidney to keep stunned i still have to wait for energy. Im trying to figure out how some rogues can keep someone stun locked from 30k hp to dead prior cata. Now i saw my dueling and took another class from 130k to 45k while stun locked i was like wtff. Then when they came out he vanished and repeated. The other guy didnt even get a hit off.

You don't mash the shiny kidneyshot button just because you have 5 CPs, you pool your energy, then KS at full energy > into rape face combooooooooooooo.
