Paladin Multi-Boxing… Low level

Greetings I recently started boxing a new group of paladins on Magtheridon-US, a PVP server. My first inclination was to run 5 x Protadins as I thought there would be great survivability based on my previous experience running 4 blood DKs and a retadin. Let me say that this was not a good idea. On the plus side there is some potential to use multiple protadins in PVP. In low level AB with 4 prots a well timed shield toss from all 4 will one shot the first toon it hits and shut down multiple casters if they are guarding flags. I then went to plan B from level 15-20 or so which was to run a holy with 4 prots. The issue here was slow DPS and multiple toons having to be healed. So plan C emerged which is the obvious choice, a standard group composition with three retadins, a protadin and a holydin. I choose Tauren for the extra health bonus and warstomp. I can say that for a PVE or PVP group the warstomp comes in handy in instances along with our other stuns for being able to slow damage down and to let the tank get agro.

I am using my “Z” key as my spam key that activates my DPS key “2” and “;”. I have my two step set up to activate DPS macro1 on the “2” key and a proc macro on my “;”.

So let’s talk specifics. This is a work in progress as my toons are now only level 31 but here is how I am rolling to give leveling boxers an idea.

On my healer my #2 key is “Judgement” my “;” key is for ”Crusader Strike”. If I am close enough to the action to judge it activates my “Judgement of the Pure” talent for an extra 9% melee and casting haste plus 30% spirit regen while in combat. This is a first tier talent and I grabbed it at the 3/3 level. I also took 3/3 “Protector of the Innocent”. Basically this one heals my holydin anytime I cast a heal on another toon. On Tier 2 at I took 3/3 “Clarity of Purpose” to reduce the cast time of my Holy Light spell. Holy Light is the most mana efficient spell at my level (minus my free instant ones) and is my spam key on my mouse wheel button for mouse over healing. I also took 1/2 “Last Word” to get to the next tier and to be a clutch heal on targets below 35% health for my “Word of Glory” spell that is my second most used spell after Holy Shock. I use “Word of Glory” as my left thumb button 2 and my “Holy Shock” as left thumb button one for mouse over. At the tier 3 level I am spec’d into “Daybreak” at the 2/2 level. “Daybreak” gives you a 20% chance make your “Holyshock” not trigger its cooldown. This one comes in handy when I am in a flashheal spam rotation due to large amounts of damage to party. The ability to rip off two instant cast “holy shocks” followed up by an instant “Word of Glory” helps keep up a melee team.

So to complete my set up I have “1” as “Consecration” for extra AOE damage when I need it. “3” is “Hammer of Justice”, “4” is “Warstomp”, “5” is “Divine Protection” and “6” is “Exorcism”. I use “Exorcism” to pull on my holydin and then I line of sight. On my other four toons “6” is also “Exorcism” so I have the ability to spam it if I get locked down by a mage or to catch a runner. I also have “Lay on Hands” and “Hand of Protection” in easy reach as I drive with my Holydin. Finally, for ease of use I have “Blessing of Kings” on “0” and “Seal of Righteousness” on “-“, finally I have my “Summon Sunwalker Kodo” on “=”. These three buttons let me buff on the fly and mount up without complicated ALT, CTRL, Shift keying, very useful for BGs and questing.

Now for my Retadins.

I am using the following specs: 3/3 “Crusade” 30% increase to my “Crusader Strike” and “Templar’s Verdict” which is a core piece of my DPS macros and accounts for a lot of my toons damage. 2/2 “Improved Judgement” for an extra 20 yards judgement range. For Tier 2 I went with 3/3 “Rule of Law” to increase my “Crusader Strike’ crit by 15% and 2/2 “Pursuit of Justice”. PofJ increases our speed and that is key as we have no gap closers. At tier 3 I went 1/1 “Communion” for increased damage to the ret and to party plus replenishment and 1/1 “Divine Storm”. Divine storm is used in my macros but also increases my AOE + passive healing. The down side of “Divine Storm” is if I spam it too much I lose out on holy power for “Templar’s Verdict”. As a result I have one ret with more “Divine Storm” in his rotation for more AOE + heals knowing that I am shorting him HP for “Templar’s Verdict”. But I am good with that as that instant “Divine Storm” will pull aggro off of my healer when I am LOSing giving the tank just enough time to secure aggro for the duration of the fight.

My DPS Macro on my “2” key is:

/castsequence reset=target/15 Judgement,Crusader Strike,Crusader Strike,Divine Storm
/cast Consecration

My DPS Macro1 on my “;” key is:

/castsequence reset=target/20 Templar's Verdict,Templar's Verdict,Templar's Verdict,Templar's Verdict,Templar's Verdict
/cast Hammer of Justice
/cast Holy Wrath

For my Prot Pally I am using the following spec at this point. 3/3 “Divinity” to increase incoming heals by 6% and 2/2 “Seals of the Pure” for 6% more damage to help me hold aggro. Tier two I am using “Judgements of the Just” to reduce melee attack speed and 3/3 “Toughness” for an extra 9% armor which reduces all physical attacks damage to my tank. “Toughness” goes straight to effective health and is the reason I also use my tank as my miner/herbalist. While these two professions aren’t great at level 85 for tanks at lower level I use the extra stam from mining, tauren and the lifeblood to boost my tanks aggro generation at lower level play. For tier three talents I am rolling with 1/1 “Hammer of the Righteous” to secure more AOE threat and 1/3 “Sanctuary” to reduce my incoming damage and to work on unlocking “Shield of the Righteous”.

DPS Macro “2” Key:
/castsequence reset=target/9 Judgement,Hammer of the Righteous,Hammer of the Righteous,Hammer of the Righteous
/cast Consecration
/cast Hammer of the Righteous
/cast Lifeblood(Rank 2)
/use 13

DPS1 Macro “;” Key
/castsequence reset=target/20 Avenger's Shield,Avenger's Shield,Avenger's Shield,Avenger's Shield,Avenger's Shield,Avenger's Shield,Avenger's Shield,Avenger's Shield
/cast Word of Glory
/cast Holy Wrath

I have “Avenger’s Shield” on my #1 key to pull with if needed. “0” = “Righteous Fury” for buffing purposes.

I run “Devotion Aura” on tank and heal and “Retribution Aura” on the 3 retadins.

So some fun facts/opinions from my time playing this team. It is possible to heal Gnomergan at level using only “Word of Glory” and “Holy Shock”. Next fact is “The Zerg” is a great guild on Magtheridon. I rolled into them this weekend, they made me welcome and I am appreciating the leveling XP bonus as I am doing non-RAF and have no BOAs, so leveling old school. Another thing to note, you have to be gentle on spamming IWT as your guys will go running everywhere.

As a paladin, holy shock and word of glory is all I really use, with divine light/flash of light procs in between.

Ashley .... you know it with the instant heals. I am stuck with Holy Light or Flash Heal while waiting for Divine Light which is higher level. Healing at this level with an all melee team is cake. Everyone sticks pretty close together and makes it easy on the healer. If I know a fight has some interupts my heals stand further back and works at range.

For trash being able to consecrate x 5 and warstomp x 5 and stun x 5 is pure win.

hey man, thanks for the write up, this will greatly help me when i go back to leveling my pally team. they will be boosted to 80 with some quests sprinkled in (they are 40ish atm) and the lead pally is already 85, although i may use my spare dk (80) when they get to the point of actulally playing randoms. And again, you are a very welcome addition to <The Zerg>. and as always FEED THE RAGE!!!!!! @ www.ragewhispers.com (http://www.ragewhispers.com)

I've got 5x Holy Pallies, I believe 55th or so.
With the plan of twinking tham at 70th or 72nd (Avenging Wrath), for the 70-74 bracket of play.

They don't necessarily have to be Holy.
But that has been quite fun for the leveling up process.

Thanks for sharing the macros and insight.

You may want to revisit 5x prot pallies for exclusive battleground play at 85. :) Even for pve many of the issues plaguing 5x prot from a year ago have been resolved (low mana pools, dps, spreading damage taken, talent points dependant on getting hit).

I've got two teams already, for maximum level play.
5x Feral/Resto's and Paladin + 4x DK's.

The allure of the Paladins...
Quite strong at their level, in relation to other characters... as the game is balanced for maximum level play.
And full gearing that never needs to be upgraded again, with a week of casual pvp or a weekend of lots of pvp.

At the moment they're Holy x5.
But Prot or Ret, or a mixed team is not out.

Alright I am back on my team. Grinded out a few levels yesterday and finally am using some BOAs since I transferred my shaman to Magtheridon with 2-3 bags of BOAs.

Since then I have stomped through SM Library and Armory and cleared Maraudon. Currently sitting at 4 x 39 and 1 x 38. Will be sitting in plate in no time. I picked up a few new talents and will try to do a better write up later this week. The short of it is I am now using Exorcism in my ret pallys rotation.

Thanks for this write-up. I'm gearing my 5 paladin team to start levelling - I plan to do 100% instances and PVP with them, no questing. I have full heirloom armor for all sets, and ~400 justice points to go to get a set of axes, then I'll get started. I plan to run prot, holy and 3 ret for instances and holy and 4 ret for PVP. However, I plan to drive with my prot for instances, and with my holy for PVP. Do you find that IWT and CTM spam works fine for instances, or do you have to police yourself so you don't get the "spin around the target" madness going on?

Hey man, my rages never make it on that site when I email them in. Do they just suck?

I lead with my healer ... so I will run in and either exorcism or judge to get some attention. If I LOS all the mobs will run to my healer who will have back peddled enough to deliver my mobs to my melee grinder. But I will do some IWT pulls. What I like is letting my team run to a mob and right before they get there I spam my DPS key to get a shield toss out and then the storm hits.

I hardly ever have issues getting the toons orbiting the mobs. Hardest part is to learn to slow the spam on the DPS key to keep the IWT in control of the toons so they don't go ape. Just slow it down and then spam one they get together and combat starts.
