Hey guys, long time no see. I gave up on wow after WOTLK and every class being homogenized to shit. I don't need exact answers...

but does SWTOR have hope for fulfilling the complex and all-encompassing boxing potential as wow did... at least back in its day?

Or is it just a ranged attack gimmick. Melee team potential? Group healing? Any specific +/- comments would be nice.

Thanks!!

wb!

I can only speak for myself as there are alot of people here who can elaborate better than I can. As a Level 50 Trooper Comando/Combat medic I have yet to lose any warzone, I can heal my whole team and never die myself. So atm pvp is a gimmick, however I have hopes that they will fix the follow issues and allow macros because without those meh, not worth trying to box it. The game itself is pretty fun. If you liked wow at some point you will like swtor.

Edit: but for all the ideas SWTOR borrowed you would think Bioware would have taken more of the good ones.

Its very boxable; well, dual-boxable. [just have to learn to drive them both, pretty easy once you get some practice in]. three or more might be prohibitively difficult. Tho I'm thinking of grabbing a third account and trying my hand at steering 3. [worst case I end up parking the third wheel somewhere to do companion missions over and over again.]

more importantly, they have said they will fix the follow issue. So its a question of when. Also they indicated that at some point they would add macros, so again, question of when.

I am playing one character and I don't think its a fraction of the boxer friendliness of wow. My character depends on procs in order to take advantage of his skill tree talents. If I was boxing my procs would mostly be wasted. Until it's more boxer friendly I would say wait. If my Amazon order ever gets here I may try to two box it. Single player is really fun and I don't see any point to boxing it at the moment. I started boxing in wow when it was impossible to run instances because of the difficulty in finding groups. In the current state of wow I would have never started boxing. In swtor it's easy to find groups for the most part. This is just how I see it at the moment.

Yeah. It's probably one of the least friendly MMOs to box in at the moment. And I've boxed EverQuest 1 & 2, Asheron's Call 1 & 2, DAoC, SWG and WoW.

Fixing the /follow bug is half of our problem. Hell, it's like 80% of my problem. With that fixed it wouldn't be that bad. The other part is the lack of macros, or any kind of one-button assist and attack function (you have to spam an assist key a lot because you'll lose the target). There's also no target of target or focus UI.

You can set up "raid" frames for your party at all times, but that's the only UI element that's configurable. Other than the chatbox. But since you can't move any of the other elements of the UI, it's moot to be able to move the chatbox around. I've just created multiple chatboxes in the same spot to segment all of the traffic.

(Actually, if you load up your companion's toolbar as the left side, and configure raid frames, you could possibly move chat to the bottom left ala WoW)

I am only single boxing but am having a great time. Having companions I almost feel like I am boxing at times, lol.

They will probably add macros at one point and then we can probably do something meaningful. Overall the difficulty seems low enough that even mashing your buttons like a madman will win you a fight. Main thing would be healing I suppose.

Thanks for the feedback! Sound like I should wait until they add macros / fix follow / add assist & ToT.

If anyone is having boxing successes... let me know those too! Always nice to hear good things.

I couldn't wait and decided to 4-box this after playing a solo toon to 29. I couldn't more strongly recommend the game to a person that enjoys MMOs. It's amazing. The storylines are engrossing and the voice acting is amazing.

Multiboxing? Wait until they fix follow. I read all the feedback about how follow was broken and I... underestimated how bad it really is :) On the main screen you'll see all of your alts following you. The alt screens will have some of them stuck on stuff, some just randomly stopped and rarely they'll actually be where you see them on the main screen.

This is just a follow issue that I've seen. The lag in-game is, for me, much more negligible than in WoW. It's just that follow is bugged currently.

So, single box until they fix follow: Yes.
Multibox now: No.

Also you have to love instances, theres like 5x instances of each zone, so you can be at the same spot on the realm, but only see 1/5 of the people who are actually there.

I would recommend, for anyone planning to box down teh road, to start an extra account now, level a toon high enough to get your ship ( level 15ish, so you have two companions for missions ) ) so you can log that account on and do crew missions while you level your main account. Just a though.. you could also use it to dump item you want to auction.

I have been able to keep my mission crew skills up with my trade skills and gathering by doing the above 8)
