Shadow Prrest Macro advice if you please.

I have a shadow priest, that hit lvl 81 today, and is almost level 82, And I had a great conversation with our guilds Main SP. My questions arise from some of what we discussed...

At the start I had about 700 haste, and well over 30% HIt, which I promptly reforged down to haste. This leaves me at around 18% hit (still to high as I understand it, but can't get it any lower without new gear.) Now My haste I have just under 1000, once again, I figure it can go up once I get better gear as I level.

Now here is the mistake I was making in my Macro...

/castsequence {target=blah blah blah} VDevouring plaque, Shadow word: pain, Mind flay, mind flay, MIND SPIKE, Mind blast, SW: Death

Now by the time I finish my mind blast most everything is dead, unless I am on a boss. So I thought I may try something like ....

.castsequence Mind Spike, Mind Spike, Mind Blast, dots here, then Mind Flay, mind flay, mind flay

But this kills my dot rotation for when I just hit it twice for the dots, then spam Mind sear.

Questions are as follows. Do you all even use Mind Spike in your rotation, or do you just use it as a situational burn down kinda thing? If you do use it, where do you place it in your macro?

Thanks for the help, Never played a SP this high before, and trying to milk the DPS of course.

Are you talking pve or pvp? Also are you specced into archangel or not?
You do realize that mind spike removes the dots on your target?

If you use mind spike you want to use it 3x in a row, as it will make your next mind blast and instant guaranteed crit. so a burst/finishing macro like
/castsequence (...) Mind Spike, Mind Spike, Mind Spike, Mind Blast, SW Death SW Death
/cast archangel
/trinket
/racial

In pve you want to dot as many targets up with Vampiric Touch & SW Pain, an keep Dev Plague up on main target (can only be applied to 1 at a time), use mind blast at 3 orbs and mind flay for the rest of it. The use of Mind Spike in PVE is very very situational,

Right Zenga, I'm using it for PvE only, and yep, I knew about the Dots, which is why I'm having a tough time placing it, to give my dots max time up.

But you did answer my questions perfectly man, thanks. at this time I am not specced into archangel yet. But then again, I haven't ran into mana issues yet either, I'm sure they will come up.

Well by no means i'm an expert shadow priest, I just explained a couple mechanics. As a matter of fact I gave up on playing it solo in pve as my dps blows compared to other specs (which is my bad). But in pvp I enjoy it much better. Though mana issues are my biggest problem there.

Also don't forget about your pet whenever it's up on a boss.

I have came to love that little shadow pet, many times It's helped pool out the mana for me. Mine is an Alch/Tailor so I do have it a tiny bit easier on mana so far, But I don't expect it to last till 85.

But yeah, this is the highest I've ever taken a priest myself, and he started out as an experiment in multi class boxing, which is becoming oh so much easier now, thanks to Lax, and the advice here. I swear I learn something every day here myself. and I'm going on a good day or two posting. ;)
