Hows it running? All on 1 system or you running multiple PCs?

4 boxing on 1 puter.
I thought my video card would have a meltdown but it hasnt been to bad. I did keep turning down the settings as my GTX 570 was running at 100%
my i7 was only around 20% - 30% ish
using maybe 6 -7GB or Ram
Did suffer with Lag here and there but not sure if that was the video card or the server, time will tell on release.
Cant see why anyone couldnt 4 box with a half decent system
Hows it running? All on 1 system or you running multiple PCs?
After testing a lot with 4+ machines trying 2, 3, and 4 accounts i ran into a lot of issues with latency and delay.
I tested 3 accounts on 1 machine, albeit the test machine is not that powerful, its a i7 second gen with only 8 gigs of ram and 1 Nvidia GTX 460 Mobile (i tested it on an Alienware MX17R3 laptop) and it was tremendously smoother and much more responsive then using multiple machines.
I will eventually try to get back to multiple machines to see if i can correct the latency, but at this time this game doesnt seem like you really need more then 2 toons, with companions, you make up a 4 man team and still get better experience then a 4 man team.
However a 4 man team of troopers/smugglers/Bounty Hunters/Imperial Agents is just blatantly bad ass anyways.
I may be turning into a single box multiboxer after learning more about IS and Isboxer's abilities further and the VFX are just amazing as well.

I had an issue when using mouse broadcasting, the followers ground target target would move with the mains ( watching the video feed ) but It would say "too close" when I would try and click to activate ( on next click ) Anyone run into this? my windows were stacked at the same res btw.
Anyways. I ran two SCs and later the two BHs through Black Talon several times.(separately, so two sorcs with companions and then two BHs later. The Sorcs put out most single target dps for me. They killed bosses faster, with power to spare. The BHs would over heat with no vent heat by the end of a boss fight. I might not be doing everything 100% efficiently. . Of course the BHs destroyed all the group trash mobs in seconds.
I like the companions.. I'm not sure if I will 4box or not. You lose all that affection gain if you level without them. I think you could do the same content..might just have to wait a level or two above the content to do it with two toons+companions. What I might do is level two to 50..max out their crew skills.. then open two new accounts and level two of something else. Then group them all up at 50. That way their best companions will be geared and have some good affection built up.
LOL! howd I miss this thread Kris!?!?
First, I love that you can see our dialogue in your pictures. Thank God you didnt post pictures of what else we said.
I think its worth mentioning, that even single boxing, there was some server lag on that particular server, especially in Hutta. I saw lots of people lagging. I didnt personally, but I saw a lot of singles.
@ Lyon, you can level with missions alone with your companions. You do group with companions yes, so, a simple way of doing this is, to drop one person from the group, and rotate a companion around. Drop the next, get his companion, and pick back up the first. Sure, it could be cumbersome, however it is doable with missions. Flashpoints... no. Obviously, you're gonna have to run two, finish the FP, then run the other two.
What I do not know is... can you degroup two, put those two in a group their own...gather your companions for both groups, and run into the FP zone. I can see targeting being a little tricky, but after they allow macros, it "should" be doable I would think, to run two teams at the same time, through two different FPs, so long as you target the same mobs, and choose the same FP path when talking to NPCs. I realize this is theorycrafting, but correct me if my mechanics thinking is wrong... it should work.

BH's are not as optimal at low levels because they have garbage healing early on and they don't get tank companions until level 36+ or so.
Sorcs come out of the box pretty much firing on on cylinders. The heat issues stay with BH's all the way through the game, the thing is, Sorc's cannot really approach BH burst, or shorter duration DPS. At level 50 in basic level 50 gear, an ideal BH rotation will look like.
Tracer Missile 1.5s cast time Crit for up to 2,200.
Heart Seeker Missile instant cast, crit for up to 2,800.
Tracer
Rail Shot instant cast crit for up to 2k.
In 4.5 seconds you have dumped up to 9k damage on a target in a perfect storm. The only class that can really match that is a Sniper/Gunslinger. Even Operatives and Scoundrels can't really match that output. Sorcs are not even in the ballpark for that kind of burst.
That said, Merc/Merc Sorc/Sorc Op/Op are going to be the best duo's by a long shot and there probably isn't that much between them.
Sorc is the safe bet. Merc is probably the better PvP choice. Op is the big gamble, probably the least effective but also probably the most fun to play imho.

Yep. I've seen operatives do it as well a few builds ago.
Snipers do have the highest single damaging ability for sure. What puts Merc/Commando burst right up there is that they both reduce the targets armor with their primary attack, but they can piggy back instant attacks on that attack and tracer missile hits so freaking hard. Once you have a full stack of heat signature on a target, (EACH MERC GETS THEIR OWN STACK, don't know if this actually stacks cumulatively or not, haven't tested it) a Merc can just fire off 1600-1800 damage tracer missiles every 1.5s or faster depending on haste. This is also in basic gear. That is both high DPS compared to pretty much everyone else, but it also has the potential for huge spikes by throwing instant attacks immediately after a tracer.

Yea.. i knew a great way to get both SPs and Affection up is to run FPs. I made some video of it.. i just suck at editing.. I will get it done at some point. I just like the companion interaction while leveling. If i get to 50.. gear up both my toons and their companions. and feel the need to run 2 more toons.. you bet I will. But I am hoping I can get by with two toons at a time+ the companions. I mean I'm not sure how long ToR will keep me interested yet, so 4s would be more of a leap of faith.. End game is an unkown at this time. And I am proud to admit. i actually am looking forward to Pokemon and Fung Fu Pandas!

Hello Kris1234,
I've been more and more inclined to box 4 from release. The only thing against it is the question about swapping as I can't see how to manage a toon (loot, equip, etc...) without bringing it to the main screen,
Did you have any problems? How did you manage it?
To Lax:
If I'm right about this limitation (and please do correct me if I'm wrong) is there a possible solution for this in the future, given time and research?
I also have another question, I have the following machine:
i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
12 GB Ram
ATI 6970
You think this will hold 4 boxing for SWTOR?
Thank you all,
A.

It's not as bad as you're thinking. The trick is that you just don't use a style of Window Layout that would make swapping slow. My suggested method is to use a Full Screen Stacked layout (meaning they are all the size of the full screen, and you don't actually see the other windows unless you swap to them, which will be instant) and then use Video FX either as Picture-in-Picture, or using dxNothing as a blank window to put them in.
I am working on new features for ISBoxer 40 to simplify this even further and make Video FX even easier to use. Anyone using Windows Vista or later with Aero enabled will probably just forget about that limitation because this should be just as easy to configure and I think it'll be much cooler. :)

You have my vote too! :)
Thank you so much Lax. I finally understood the concept of the dxNothing. I'm aware of the post on your forum about this but I never really understood what the hell was happening on the second screen :p... untill now. What we see there are selected live feeds from the stacked windows behind the main window.
I had never used it before (neither the stacked windows nor the live feed on the dxnothing) so that'll be my first goal as soon as I can get my hands on the game ;).
Anyhow, if we just play it stacked without minding about watching what the slaves are doing, swap is ok (performant), right?
In terms of performance, playing this way (stacked+dxnothing feed), is it a gain or a loss?
Cheers,
A.
Performance-wise, there IS a minor hit from using Video FX. However, unless your CPU is already hammered you should not notice it. And yes, if your Window Layout is configured with all the windows the same size and no resizing business going on, swap is always instant :)

So running 2 23 inch monitors side by side with one display per will allow instant swapping no problems?

Would it not just be easier to look slightly to the left or right ( depending on position of screens ) than to swap? lol
...jk btw!

I'm excited because I just upgraded my old Sony 905BW(secondary monitor) to a 120Hz Planar monitor which will be my new primary! :) Now I can run both screens at the same res.

Yes, unless you are on Windows XP, or the monitors are on multiple video cards. But usually (for most people) if you've got 2 monitors and 2 characters, you probably don't want them to swap. (And personally I would be managing that second screen space with dxNothing + Video FX from the different windows)
