ok so im upgrading from my 2box setup on my laptop to a brand new pc with
Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit(i know y'all hate vista but if you know how to configure it, you'll have 2 times better peformance than xp pro)
8GB DDR2-800 PC6400 RAM
Core2Quad Q6600 8MB 4x2,40GHz
UltraSharp 2007WFP 20-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor ('http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-4688') x 6
GeForce 8800GT 1GB [ 1 ][ 2 ][ 3 ]
so i was wondering if you had your monitors set up like this: [ 4 ][ 5 ][ 6 ], that to get you mouse from 1 to 4 you would have to take it left through monitor 2 and 3, or can you just take it down from 1 to 4 without going through monitor 2 and 3... is that possible?

if you mean

1 2 3
4 5 6

then you can only access monitor 4 by

moving down from monitor 1
Diagonally down and left from monitor 2
left from monitor 5

monitor 3 has no direct access to monitor 4

if they are connected 1->2->3->4->5->6 but setup the other way would you be able to go directly down from monitor 1 -> 4 or should you be going right through monitor 2 and 3?

PS. didnt understand your answer completely

I doubt you'll get great performance if you are using multiple GPU's.

I'm not sure on the specifics, but from what people have said previously, the get better performance if all the DirectX rendering is done on one card.

:-D Excellent.

I think the information that I heard said it was an XP install they were testing it from.

Can you provide some info or links on how to do this? I have 64-bit Vista and it runs my WoW instances a bit slower than XP (dual-boot setup), so I'd appreciate any info on how to get me better FPS.

i have no links, but its mainly about stopping it from doing anything unnecesary by disabling all the service related

I've had disappointing results with multiple GPUs on my fairly beefy 680i Q6600 system:
Adding 3rd video card = *worse* performance? :( ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=4749')

It sounds like others have had more success rendering DX across multiple cards and monitors, but you're definitely running in lightly tested waters with that kind of configuration. I doubt that nVidia or ATI spend a lot of time worrying about bugs affecting 5 DX windows spread across 2-3 GPUs and 3+ monitors.
