View Full Version : Multiboxing for the poor

I'm a teenager, and so far I've triple boxed my team to the mid-30s as well as two other teams. I'm in love with multiboxing and since doing this no other gaming experience seems fun anymore. I need some way to multibox!! But I realize I have to stop since these accounts are not on my name (my friends who were using them stopped playing and still had a few months left over) and it's best not to risk getting those accounts banned. So I have a few quick questions on what I need to get two more accounts.

1) Do I need to buy two more copies of vanilla wow, or is there some way to create a new account without buying the actual WoW box? I'm planning on using only one install, that is what I was doing previously. I don't have enough hard disk space to copy and paste the wow folder 3 times, and i see no reason to either since I use the same settings on all the wow windows.
2) I'm guessing I need to buy two more copies of burning crusade? Ouch. Is there any easier way to upgrade other than walking to the store and spending all my money and looking ridiculous carrying identical game boxes? and then having to conceal them from my parents?
3) Can trial accounts be upgraded to normal accounts?
4) Any tricks to know about scroll of resurrection/invite-a-friend that pertain to multiboxing?
5) Is it okay to have 3 accounts under the same name being paid by 3 different credit cards?
6) There's no way to change the name which the account is under?

The main problem here is my age, my parents would kill me if they found out I was spending my money on stuff like this, so I decided i would level each of the characters individually to around level 60 (I'm even planning getting a summer job just to finance this O.o Then I would activate the 3 accounts simultaneously by finding various friends with different credit cards for a month or two of glory). Now, I know you will probably tell me to wait until I'm an adult, but who knows, by then WoW may be a terrible game after the expansion and maybe all my friends will quit playing. I realize multiboxing is an expensive and impractical hobby but I can't think of anything but playing only one character or playing other games is outstandingly depressing or poses no challenge at all. I'm pretty good with computers, so the problem is being able to do this without my parents finding out >< Any ideas? Any other teenagers in the same situation? Thanks for taking your time to read this.

1) You'll need to buy 2 more copies for the account activation keys but if you're already running it 3x from the same computer nothing would change there.

2) Yes, watch for sales. Sometimes Best Buy has the battlechest on sale too. Lol, no one knows if the Wow's are for you or for gifts. Couple of friends I've made at Best Buy are playing more than one account now.

3) Yes, definitely do that because you'll get 10 extra subscription days for free + the 30 days from the retail package.

4) Not sure.

5) Yes but it would be against the TOS for the other people to log in and pay for it and probably against the credit card companies policy for you to have your friends card #. Just use game cards.

6) I believe they have to both have the last name the same and use the same physical address.

You should really be upfront with your parents and not do this behind their back, be responsible and show them you can earn the money to fund it and it might be ok with them. Hiding stuff like this is as bad mentally for you as hiding other things you know they would not approve of you doing!

It seems like wow might pass you by but if it does there will be something better when you're older.

Correction: all you need is the CD-key and the secret password, call billing and have them switcheru it (just make up some bull story about how he's your stephdad and call once per account to make sure you get to talk to different people).

Sure, it's sneaky, but it's retarded that you can't *give* an account to someone. Resale, sure, I get it, they want to get rid of that, but if I want to give my account to someone I'll damn well do it.

Interesting, I have that exact situation coming up in a few years if my stepson is still playing then to transfer it to him, thanks for the tip.

I'm going to disagree with you on giving away an account but what you do is your business...it's about identity and interaction with other players...If I had made friends with you and one day you log on and it's not really you it would be kinda awkward... I wish Blizzard would let you properly transfer ownership of your toon like SOE does then it wouldn't matter and you'd get a name change in the process, in that regard it wouldn't be a problem but I believe the identity thing is the biggest issue.

5. Yes. I paid for my subscriptions, my friends', etc for years. Even transferred to different realms many times. No problem.

6. Nope.

Just another quick question. Since my birthday is coming up, I can probably ask friends for two more copies of vanilla wow, which comes with a free month. (or at least i hope it still does). Are there any sort of conflicts with running one BC account and two vanilla accounts? (other than me not having a shattrath hearth :(...)

Well you wont be able to play Draenei like your doing now.

Well with running just vanilla wow, you won't be able to make a shaman on Alliance side, due to not being able to roll Draenei.

/edit darn it, beaten by a few minutes while looking up how Draenei was spelled :D

That reminds me two of my accounts are still vanilla.

Also, use the invite a friend on each account. Have main invite A, have A invite B. Or something like that. I forget what the best use of trials/invites is.
