View Full Version : [WoW] KeDash00 and the Funshine Gang
Since there is only a small amt of time between now and launch of SWToR... I jumped on the same server as a few of the members here who are also going, and I will be guilded with, in an effort to get to know them a little better.
Ive leveled a team of PvP DKs, to mess around with Dash. The both of us seem to live about the same life, yet a few hrs different in our schedules..lol Ran MC with him once, and did a little bit of PvP once. Dash is good people.
Soooooooooooooo....I got a pretty nice set of DKs out of the deal... BUUUT!
I SUCK!
I forgot to take a screenshot of the AV I did at level 70. 1 Blood and 4 x Frost. My team died more times than I got killing blows. CLEARLY I am doing something wrong.
My toons DO need gems and enchants on the PVP gear, but im in nearly full gear right now.
Is my spec wrong? Should I be unholy? 5 x blood? Better macros than the rotation ones from wiki sites?

Brilliant name, Funshine.
its hard to believe your dks are not doing well. They should be instant destruction in bgs in the 70s bracket. Have you used Mosg's dk manifesto? I modeled my set up after his and it works brilliantly. They dominated lower level bgs.
Also go 5 frost unless you want to tank the bosses in AV.

A tip I can give is that you should play your DK's as if they're naked, have zero armor, since they are in fact very squishy if played Frost. Besides that it's just spamming the 2 dot strikes + Frost strike/Obliterate?
And then there's the effective use of all the abilities of the DK's, Lichbane + Deathcoil for selfheal etc.

LOL thanks! I like it too.

Sooo, Frost spec, the two dots, being IT and BP? then OB and OB and FS and OB?
What do I... or should I, do with Icebound Fort? What about keeping a ghoul up when ever the spell is ready? use it? worth it? ditch it? Im currently using DnD too. 5x DnD moves fast on people with little resil or armor rating.
I have strangulate in my rotation, to get those pesky healers.
Im not using chains of ice, but I feel like I should.
I DO use Deathcoil.. when I remember, or if someone is running, and im out of a DG. I keep my HoW up.. and im running around in frost presence.

I haven't played WoW for like 3 months now, so can't really help in debt with the sequences. I do wonder what is the reason you're not facerolling with the DK's? Stuff dies to slow, or what happens?
If you're getting owned by 4 solo players, then there's nothing wierd happening. You're not running a healer, which makes a maaaaassive difference for Bg's.

Actually I think I said it before, but I personally can't see how one can't completly rofl-stomp entire AVs with DKs, honestly. I never played with a healer, leveled 2 5-DK teams (different servers) and on both sets I rarely died, while leveling (in BGs) as well as at 85. I think my average kill/death ratio is easily over 10 (in killing blows, let alone honorable kills shared over the 5 of them).
PS: The only BG I can't stand is SOTA....
All that I have is:
/cast Blood Tap
/cast Strangulate
and:
#showtooltip Lichborne
/cast Lichborne
/cast [target=player] Death Coil
/cast Icebound Fortitude
When I see a bunch of enemy players I just run right into them, pop AMS, spam howling blast and when needed strangulate + obliterate the healer and run to the next pack. Unless they have at least 3 healers anything within 5v1 to 5v10 is just dead... in less than a minute.
Sadly there aint much advice to give as ... I don't do anything special at all. I don't have a cast sequence or anything. Out of range? Howling Blast (epic slow), Death Grip (rotated and refreshes on killing blow so I normally always have it available) and stomp them to death. If needed I press 5 once to do a necrotic strike, but even that is rarely used and only when it's a bunch of healers healing eachother.
I do play a DK as a main too and played 2300+ with it, so I know the class well, but .... I honestly think that of all classes DK is just the lol-button-smash setup when multiboxing.

I think we can all agree that killing things is not a problem, But if you meet any decent people they should easily be able to kill atleast one DK? If there's a problem with 5 DK's, it would be survivability? Besides that, if you've reached 2,3k+ you're probably a bit more capable then most(me atleast) so I'm not sure how good of an 'average' example that is. :D
kk, so Dash sent me a macro last night. I used it in (3) AVs. I did "better".
1. I dont have any resil gems. NONE. I got slots out the ass, but nothing is gemed, nor is anything enchanted.
2. I do tend to just mow over people 5 vs 1, and vs 2, and vs 3, and vs 4... when I get into spots where I am with a crowd, I get stomped into the ground so fast.
3. I do not have a round robin DG or anything fancy like that set up yet... (im starting to think I need this..)
4. I do not have IWT incorporated into my dps spam keys yet. So I find I am pressing my keybind, then spam my dps rotation macro button about 3 or 4 times, meanwhile the target moves, so I have to press my IWT a couple times to get the team moved around right. rinse repeat. ....Problem with this is... the targets are usually all over me, since some of my team isnt even facing the right direction.
5. I still feel there is something better I need to do or tweak.
(5) x Frost spec, in Frost presence, wearing all lvl 70 PVP gear, and using a macro that looks like this...
#shottooltip
#show
/use 13
/use 14
/castsequence reset=target Icy Touch, Plague Strike, Blood Strike, Blood Strike, Obliterate, Rune Strike, Howling Blast
So, my typical is, DnD down, pop the ghouls, ALT-TAB a target, DG them (if its not on CD), and start spamming my dps macro. If another player gets in the mix, its a ALT-TAB, IWT, and spam the dps macro.
There you have it. Apps suck ass PVPing method.
Please tell me what Im doing wrong, because as it stands, I typically end up with about 3-7 killing blows, and 40-50 honor per AV.

Well, I think a good start would be to make use of http://www.wowhead.com/spell=54637 and never-ever use Blood Strike in this game anymore!
You also don't use Icy Touch as you really need to get the Howling Blast glyph (http://www.wowhead.com/item=45806). Rune Strike also does less damage than a normal Frost Strike, so you don't even have to bother with that 1 either.
Last advice would be to drop Frost Presence for Unholy Presence.
Are you DWing or 2Handing? I dual-wield with mine, but 2H should work just fine too.
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/eonar/Vethek/talent/secondary
This is my spec for them. It's not a usual spec as you aren't playing just "one Death Knight". It's not the most optimal DPS spec, but it surely provides for a better setup for my playstyle.
The glyphs are however most likely the best you can do.... The 3 main ones are quite standard so I don't think there is much to explain there. The major ones are simply to increase the range of DG (and since bursting people is so much easier when they are in range I always had that), AMS duration for all kind of handy stuff, especially when you sit inbetween a group of enemy players, it's nice to be immune for a long time to a lot of stuff like CC and the Strangulate glyph is great to have it on rotation and then silence healers for 6 seconds.
I also run Mind Freeze on a round robin with a 2 second delay (2x 5 = 10 sec), so I don't bother manually interrupting in melee range.
Oh and for your IWT, I actually linked it with my 3 mains (Frost Strike, Howling Blast & Obliterate).
1 last question though would be if you froze your XP at 70, because if you did, you will end up with all the 70 twinks and while I actually did good there, it is not the BG in which you want to start learning your characters.... Trust me.
Edit:
Actually a quick armory check shows/answers some of my questions and doh, you really need those glyphs badly man! Start with Glyph of Obliterate and Howling Blast as your Prime ones, AMS and Death Grip as your Majors and Horn of Winter & Resilient Grip as your Minors. And you will indeed really need that DG rotation setup. If you plan at staying in the 70 bracket I'd also consider a respec to at least get Lichborne, it's nice for healing but also another anti-fear cooldown.
Oh and a last useful tip might be that Plague Strike isn't even worth it all that often. You lose a lot of your burst when wasting an entire GCD to that. It is a DPS improvement if your target is alive long enough for it's duration, but normally you should kill a target within 10 seconds of your first Howling Blast, so there is no need to cast Plague Strike there.
When leveling my Alliance team I actually had a lot of fun in the 70 bracket by sitting here.
http://puu.sh/8Wp3
Basically "under" the road and then just wait for the gigantic wave of Hordes after a ress to then spam howling blast and kill like 30 people in 1 go. As a Horde you can easily achiev the same by waiting in the building the Alliance has to pass to get to your last 2 towers. I always waited in the corner and just sprayed Howlings over the bypassing groups.
But yes, thinking about it, the biggest issue at this point would be not having glyphs and running a cast sequence that would make you do less damage than only spamming Howling Blast and not even casting a single other spell. And don't give up! I'm sure you will stomp through the Alliance waves once you got it under control :).
PS: If you ever live-streamed... could maybe use that to see where there is room for improvement in a BG.
Vipeax, very nice setup! And explain. I learned a lot. I will definitely make changes and go back at it tonight.
No, I dot plan on staying in the 70. I'd figured I'd stop at 79 or 80.

If you stop at 79/80 you will have to do quests or something to get gear though. You don't want to sit with anywhere between 15-30K health when you end up fighting against Cataclysm geared people with 50 to 80K health. Actually that was the hardest bracket for me. 70-79 was easy, but even at 75-79 I started to get Cataclysm-geared people with over 40K hp. It was still doable at that point cause you play five, but for example Feral Druids in bear form where really tough, even in 5v1.
I didn't PvP in 80-84 all the way till I was 84 myself and actually had gear from questing.

I've added quite a lot of changes. New Froat spec, with Unholy presence.. Glyphs, new macros, interface with target assigned to my melee range dps macro... I see a nice improvement. Now I need to get the "oh shit" button macro made and figure out what I did wrong with the round robin 2 step death grip macro. Cause I later found out there was an update that I don't need the two step now... Or something like that.
