Moving Characters between shards

Hi all,
so currently I have all my characters (actively playing) on the same shard. The order of the characters in the list is mixed vs the teams, i.e. first character on each team is not listed first in the list of characters, etc.
From what I can gather, each toon can be moved once every 7 days. Using this principle, I could move my toons to another shard in the order I want to see them and then 7 days later move them back to the original shard? Correct? Anyone see an issue with doing this?

it should work. But might have to change your names because someone might take it while your name while gone from the shard. lest for me running with a FLT system i run off names for macros. so suck having to change names

Maybe I should just try moving them all to Alsbeth and leave them there!

yeah, i ran into this issue when I transferred my extra-life cleric team to Alsbeth, sonmone had already taken the name of my tank.

Changed all the macros but one and it took me a bit to track it down.

My suggestion is log into the shard you are thinking of transferring to and create throw away characters to reserve the names, or at least check just before doing the transfer. This way you know if you will need to change any macros beforehand or not.

Sure. Just make sure you create temp chars on your final destination with the names you want - so no one goes and snatches the names from you while you're away. Or, if you want to rename your characters, leave the temp chars during the final transfer which lets you do a name change. :)

But I wonder if it's possible to modify the recents.cfg file before launching Rift in order to make the character you want to login be the one that is selected in the character select screen. So all you have to do is press Enter.

How long from deleting a temp character would it be before I could re-use that name? For some reason I deleted a character in the past and it would not let me re-use the name straight away. Was that due to logging into the toon before deleting it?

You can use the name immediately after deleting a char.

It should be pretty quick ( immediately I would think ), the actual transfer startled me at how quick it was.

The screen switch from old shard to Alsbeth in line 5 seconds and the newly transferred character was there.

I can try running a temp toon name create - delete - create test and see how long it is.

SO now that I am looking my account lists for the toons, I am wondering how other people are setting them up. Looking at it broken out by class, it might make more sense to have each toon in the list based on their class so that the first row would have all tanks, second row mages, third row clerics etc.
Is anyone else have OCD on this? LOL
