I wanted to 5 box Rift but will def need a new pc. I'd like to run the main window on a decent /medium setting with the other 4 with the low quality renderer..
Now what pc spec would I need and what card?
Want to keep cost down as much as possible.
Many thanks

i can run 4 on a i7 920 with a decent card pretty well.
I'd estimate that the new 2600's can run 5 easily. pair that with 560gt, 12gigs of memory and you should be set. If you can afford to throw in an SSD it wouldnt hurt.

Consider keeping your old machine, if you can run 1 or 2 characters on that one. I think going from 5 to 3 or 4 on your new machine helps a lot with your performance requirements and your cost. Make sure your graphics card has a lot of video memory.

the i7-2600k I've got does great with 5 on my GT460. My ATI 5850 machine with the same motherboard/2600k/RAM struggles with more than 4.
This is using ISBoxer to drive all 5 windows at 1680x1050 resolution. Lower resolutions would give you more room to adjust. Also note that simply kicking Rift up from low-quality renderer to normal with all other settings still at zero jumps my CPU usage from <15% up to >60%.

I am running 5 clients on an i7 2600K, 16 GB RAM, ATI 6870 and it is fine.
I don't have alot of eye candy turned on as I haven't had time to play around with quality settings and the tuning tricks from the RIFT forum.
I have an 120 GB SSD in the machine that I was using for a Hackintosh partition but I think I will repurpose that back to Windows 7 and give OSX a HDD instead.

I'm running 5 on a Asus Rog Laptop.. core i72630QM 460GTXm and *gigs of ram.. runs all 5 on low quality render smooth.. I lag a tad in the city but not enough to matter. I'm sure any modern PC with 8+gigs of ram and anything 460GTX + would be more than fine.

Also running 5 on an i7 920 (OC'd to 3.6Ghz), 12gigs RAM and gtx 480 (not OC'd) video card - runs fine with main on med settings and 4 slaves on low qual render.
I tried to split the team between two computers like Smedbox mentioned, but my internet lagged out sooo badly it was not playable and I didn't troubleshoot it much, might be my low quality 10/100 switch or something. I ended up just running all 5 on main computer and it works fine for me.
