View Full Version : The girls have hit 85! (all gnome mage team)

My all arcane mage team hit 85 this week and I'm slowly doing the faction games to get the best gear possible to get them dungeon ready.
My current ilevel is 331 which means I can enter heroics, but just can't kill any bosses yet.
I haven't done any enchants yet, since I think it's a waste of money before they start getting their last sets of gear.
I'm not a big PVP (er to be more correct, I just am bad at PVP) so I won't be able to gear up that way.
I tried the Stonecore first boss, but only got him to 60% before dying.
I need macro help to see what other all mage teams use for their 2-step and any other things they have macro'd or on a rotation.
Here is one (they are all wearing the exact same gear) of the toons to take a look at 85. I still have to get lots of rep to get some better gear, and am trying to at least do firelands dailies each day even though on work days it's hard to get time to get on.

Feel free to make any other comments to help me improve!
Thanks as always,
Malgor

Honestly you are best off doing Tol everytime its up and doing pvp to get 371 gear. Getting heroic gear is a waste of time at this point of the game.

For mages you don't need a two step. Seriously, just spam Arcane Blast as hard as you cam. Make sure you buy volcanic potions and use Beeq's big blow up macro when you hit time warp.

Thanks. I probably am wasting my time with heroics because of the iLvl being lower then some of my quest gear, and the Firelands rep gear is higher also.
Won't people be pissed at me bringing 5 mages into PVP?
What PVP instances should I be doing and what should I concentrate on while I'm in there? Quite honestly I never have done it much except as a guild back in the first year of WOW when we would take 40 of our members into a battlegrounds of some kind and I was a priest and all I did was follow our main tank around and heal him, so I'd be lost in any PVP action. So, don't know where to start.

Because so many people join TB you wont even get noticed. Beyond that I would just queue random and be prepared for everyone calling you a loser because... well they are losing, lol.

Malgor heroic gear is still good. I mean what you can buy with justice points. 359 gear is good, but yeah 371 gear is better even with wasted stats on resilience. Especially since the pve bonus is shit for arcane.
This thread needs MOAR SCREENSHOTS

I multibox my hunters in BGs and I always go for Alterac Valley or Isle of Conquest. Since those are 40vs40 noone really care if you use five. I really try farming honor a lot during those weekends any of those two are marked as Call to arms. Protecting bunkers in AV is very nice as a multiboxer, or killing glaives in IoC.
Sometimes I use Random BG but every time I join with one toon first to see which BG it is. If it's AV or IoC join with all, if any other I usually only use one or two toons.

Where can I find Beeq's big blow up macro? I did a search of the forums but did not come up with anything.

I'll have to post it when I get home. I believe it's on like page 4 of Beeqs movie thread for heroics.

/use volcanic potion (increases Intellect by 1200 for 25 sec.)
/use mana gem (Talent: Improved Mana Gem; Mana gained from your Mana Gem also increases your spell power by 2% of your maximum mana for 10 seconds.)
/cast arcane power
/cast mirror image (Glyph of Arcane Power allows to pop images without GCD)
/use 13 (Trinket: Soul Casket; increases your spell power by 1926 for 20 sec.)
/use 10 (Engineering tinker: Synapse springs; increases your Intellect by 480 for 10 sec.)

What is the fastest way to level 5x mage from 80 to 85? Are quests the best way?
Or can I camp a location somewhere and just farm mobs?
Doing dungeons is probably to hard for me, I'm just not good enough to handle the mages at this time so I'm planning to wait and start playing cata-dungeons when at 84-85.

I'd imagine quest stacking to be the fastest way to level.
But that might not necessarily be the best way to level.
If you're on a PvP server and the level 85's really want to make leveling miserable...
Instances or Battlegrounds might be a better option.
If you have an interest in PvP for end-game play, having 4,000 honor saved up to be spent immediately at 85th is nice.
It's still 80-84's in your bracket, but at least it is not 85's with 390+ iLV gearing.
And whatever game you play is likely to be equal players instead of imbalanced numbers.
Plus, if its a 40-man like AV/IoC, your chances of winning despite being lesser geared goes up dramatically, and PvP with an around 50% win rate is decent leveling speed.
If you have any kind of a tank, or are capable of taking out non-heroic instance bosses.
Or even just trash up to a boss and then reset...
Instances are a good option, because you can take your time, won't be ganked, won't have higher level/better geared players on you, etc.
I'd quest, with a quest stacking guide of some sort.

Which stats should I prioritize now when my mages are 85?
I use them for PvP so my gear will be mostly pvp-gear (since farming honor is easier for me). I'm playing arcane in pvp as well.
I've heard hit rating is important to kill bosses, but at this point I'm not focused on heroics at all. So you could say they're pvp-mages but also will do some normal dungeons just for fun. And I'm so far also a bad 5x mage player in dungeons ;)
So which stats should I get when reforginging and using gems to make them strong in pvp and to make my dungeons runs a bit smoother? And which stats to reduce when reforging?

If you're going to PvP, then enough hit to be hit capped for players.
Which is 5% after any talents, racial benefits, etc.
Beyond Hit, I'm not sure what a Mage should go for.

Mages need 6% hit to kill anything the same level as them and add 2% for everything level after that. Bosses (mobs with skulls for levels) require 17%
Gnome mages!
It's great to see mages still going strong! I quit playing last summer or so, but I miss my team every day.
Recently I have received many scrolls of resurrection, and I'm so tempted to come back at least for a while.
Especially the offer for instantly leveling up a character to level 80 per scroll is very tempting.
I always wanted to try 5x or 10x blood dks and Blizzard is giving great opportunity for that.. (yes, they are so evil)
Not trying to hijack the thread, but what's the state of DKs at the moment?

I like that idea a lot.
Boxing I have a lot of fun in AV, IoC, EotS and WSG.
And aside from SotA, have a decent win rate everywhere.
If it's not one of the first four, I could solo box it...
Not trying to hijack the thread, but what's the state of DKs at the moment?
From a PvP perspective...
1x Holy Paladin & 4x Frost Death Knights, is very strong.
I've got full honor gear, and around a third conquest gear from this season... including weapons.
Even before finishing the honor gear grind, the team was dominant in 40-man BG's.
Anytime the focus is kill the team via damage, it doesn't go well for the other side.
The DK's put out a massive amount of AoE damage, via Howling Blast.
And the Paladin is exceptional at single target healing, just change who the focus is (via Grid) to whatever toon is hurt the most.
I've had AB games, where their entire team cannot kill my five at Blacksmith.
CC effects (ie., smarter opponents) kind of suck...
But the Paladin has a trinket and bubble.
And the DK's have Anti-Magic Shell (debuffs, 7s every 45s), Icebound Fortitude (stun break/protection), Pillar of Frost (knockback immunity) and Lichborne (fear immunity)... plus their trinket too.
