View Full Version : [WoW] Patch 4.3 Mega Thread - Keep it all here

I'm surprised there is no conversation on the upcoming patch. Granted we don't know the gritty details, but a lot has been released so far.
Patch 4.3 Interview with Greg Street (Ghostcrawler)
Below is a quick summary and the full thanks to Simca. Be sure to read it so that you don't miss anything! (Extra info via Joystiq, Eurogamer, TenTonHammer, and Tankspot)
Deathwing Raid
The new raid is called The Dragon Soul. It contains eight bosses, and boss 7 and 8 are both Deathwing.
There will be a mount reward for killing Deathwing.
Deathwing will only drop weapons.
Heroic Deathwing will eventually be made easier after the top guilds kill it so that more people can experience it.
Tier 13 will not be available at all from valor points.
The new legendaries are two daggers (main hand and offhand) that are only usable by all three Rogue specs. Combat Rogues will be made to use these daggers as well without a DPS loss. The questline will revolve around the pure black dragon (from the egg in the Badlands) and features several Rogue-centric elements.
Melee classes will be getting a buff that is only active in the new raid to help them compete with ranged classes.
New Five Man Heroics
You will enter the new 5-mans and raid in Caverns of Time.
The first new 5-man is called "Endtime" where Nozdormu will show players the future if Deathwing wins.
The second new 5-man, "Well of Eternity" is a journey into the past, the War of the Ancients specifically, to help Thrall recover the Dragon Soul to use against Deathwing.
The third new 5-man, called "Hour of Twilight", has players escorting Thrall in present day to Wyrmrest Temple, where the final battle against Deathwing will take place.
Looking for Raid
Looking for Raid probably won't share a lockout with Normal and Heroic raids.
Looking for Raid gear will be stronger than the new five man heroics, but weaker than normal raids.
Other
There will be raid melee buff across the board. The attack power buff will apply more to melee attack power than ranged attack power.
Tank rotation changes that are related to survivability won't be in this expansion.
Epic gems will drop in the new raid in Normal and Heroic only. Each player gets a geode when a boss is killed which has a small chance to contain an epic gem, most will have rare gems. It is rare enough to take all of 4.3 to replace all of your red rare quality gems with red epic gems.
Firelands was nerfed so that players could see the content and continue progression instead of hitting a wall in heroic modes.
"Quite a few" new profession recipes will be added.
Northrend will require 2/3rd of the experience it does now, making leveling alts faster.
Corrupted Ashbringer won't be available for transmogrification from any vendor.
Old PvP armor will come back for transmogrification.

I'm really wondering how much they will buff melee, will this make DKs just ridiculous in 5s? Also they have posted the stories for the 3 new 5 man dungeons, which sound pretty interesting.

Probably won't be much talk about it until it's on the PTR. But since you brought it up...

Melee buff is only in raids, not outside raids.

So in regards to Transmorfigation or however you spell it. I've been looking for a answer to this but cannot find it anywhere, but i've been running bwl with my 10 dudes and dudets.
My Death Knight has been grabbing all the warrior tier sets, he's gotten the whole set minus the belt or something little like that.
Anyways, he has the gear in his bags.
My questions is, does anyone know if he can transform his gear to look like the tier 2 warrior set, since the gear clearly says "warrior only" on it.
I've looked on wowhead, wow.com, google and cannot find a answer to this, anyone have any thoughts?

According to MMO-Champion it looks like you will be able to, as long as you do plate for plate transmogs.

You have to be able to equip whatever item you transmorgrify. Here are the current rules:

Seems like the epic gems are going to drop from raid bosses
The most detailed interview that covers Gems is the tankspot one.
L: Will we be seeing epic gems in 4.3?
GS: Great question, and yes, you will! The way we're hoping to set it up, and we kind of have this working but things could change before we go live, is when you kill a boss on normal or heroic mode, each player gets a geode, and when they open the geode there's a chance they may find an epic gem inside. If not, it'll have blue gems or something like that. We really want it to feel like an individual reward, and not something that the raid leader gets to have fun in deciding who gets the gems, or they all go to the guild bank or something. We really want it to feel like an individual reward.
They'll be somewhat rare. It may take the entire content cycle before someone has replaced every red gem they have, but they won't be so rare that you won't see them.
L: How is that going to work with profession bonuses? Blacksmithing with its extra sockets, assuming that you could get ahold of a full set of epic gems, seems like it would all of a sudden become the best profession.
GS: I think the epic gems are like 10 stat points over the current ones, so it's a nice boost, but hopefully it won't push everyone towards Blacksmithing.
L: So you'd only end up with like 20 extra Strength as a Blacksmith.
GS: Yeah, something like that.
Source: TankSpot Interview (http://www.tankspot.com/showthread.php?77571-Interview-with-Greg-Street-AKA-Ghostcrawler)
But the word "ONLY" which people are focusing on at the moment is from the Eurogamer interview
Eurogamer: Are there going to be new recipes?
Tom Chilton: There certainly are quite a few new profession recipes. We also introduce the epic gems in this patch, and they'll be available only through the normal and heroic difficulty of the Deathwing raids.

Bummer, I raid on my main so thats alright but was hoping for least xmuting them on my alchemists.

Yes this sucks. Non raiders will probably never see these gems until they start nerfing the shit out of the new raid instance which will be right before expansion.
Shania
09-20-2011, 11:36 AM
Yes usually the way, its kinda like the old hyjal way where you had to raid to have access to the epic gems.
But its not going to be a tonne of them floating around by the sounds of it.
I presume months down the track they will allow alchemists maybe to xmute it on a cd, and or maybe eventually have it come from some form of ore, but as you said be usually most likely to far into the patch before a new expac.
I will be raiding on 2 toons, though the chance to get an epic quality gem is slim from the sounds of it.
yay for the Northrend Exp change. YAY!
does this mean we can also go to Cata content at 78?

The epic gem thing kind of bums me out. I look forward to the first few weeks that epic gems are available. Also not being able to buy ANY T13 with valor will suxor as well 8( Not sounding like a fun patch for casuals. Unless that LFRaids are supper easy ( maybe boxable? )
But what do I care?.. I'm in a beta test that I can not mention.. that should keep me busy for awhile 8)

Well they are going with 3 difficulty levels now so, I would imagine it will all be easily puggable atleast the lowest tier. I would also imagine the the epic gems will be sold cheaply after a couple of weeks.
Keep in mind we do intend to allow tier 13 set pieces to drop for those using the upcoming Raid Finder. Similar to the difference between normal and Heroic versions of tier sets, the Raid Finder set will have a lower item level than the normal and Heroic counterparts.
Set pieces from all three difficulty levels can still be mixed and matched for the two and four-piece bonuses.

Uh blizzard said it would take a raider almost until expansion to get all their gems. I'm going to guess if you see one on the AH it will be like 5k a gem until the expansion is about to launch and raid has been nerfed. Howe er I bet their will be a PvP gem vendor and further I bet they will cost conquest points.

Actually I think the QQ from casuals being unable to get the new set will become overwhelming. Whats the point of running 5 man dungeons in 4.3 if you already have a full T12 set? I guess if the drops in the new dungeons are compelling enough or the new LFR feature, but this is a first for not letting them have at least a little top tier. I don't care much since I PvP more than PvE, but it does rub me a little bit.

Apparently you're supposed to be able to, it'll just be a lower iLevel version (sorta like the 3 different versions of T9) for the LFR version of the raid. This is hear-say, and I can't even remember which forum I read it on. Could be completely wrong.

The removal of the cd for chain lightning is gonna be fun for ele shaman boxers in bg's (and even arena i guess). Not to mention that flametongue weapon is redesigned into a flat 5% magic dmg done buff rather than spellpower. Seeing how crap ele scales that should be a buff. And earthquake is getting 75% buff as well.
So in pvp, boxing ele's might see actually quite a buff.

In any event, your guess was correct. From MMO-C today:
Legendary Dagger Preview - Fangs of the Father
Blizzard released a preview of the legendary daggers, with finally extra info on the wings.
These powers include a stacking increase to Agility which builds until dark wings unfurl from the rogue’s back, removing the combo point cost and increasing damage of finishing moves for a short time.
In addition, the wings which can be spread on command (with no combat benefit) to slow a rapid descent, allowing the rogue to slowly fall to the ground

so far the flametongue change is a dps nerf as long as you dont have ~16k spell power
75% buff to earthquake so ~1600 ticks then vs zero resilience (yeha)
chainlight spam is going to be fun
however considering all changes I wont expect things going to be better in arenas @4.3

I dunno CL just doesn't hit very hard on targets with resilience. I bet a single healer could keep a 4 melee team alive long enough to kill your shaman

Where do you get that number from? Because it is not correct. Flametongue currently provides 1k extra spellpower that doesn't scale, it's a flat number. Ele shaman spells don't scale too well with spellpower either. Getting 1% extra spellpower doesn't mean your damage will increase with 1%. It depends from spell to spell. Spell power coefficients are unique for each spell, and they basically contain the factor that your base spell damage will gain from extra spell power; for lightning bolt it's for example 91% and for chain lightning 77%, meaning that the lightning bolt damage profits more from extra spellpower than chain lightning does.
The change to flametongue makes it scale with everything (bar fire elemental & searing who are afaik considered physical attacks), since it's a flat 7% damage output buff (2% extra from talents). In my raid gear (mix between bis heroic and bis 378 gear) I would already profit from the change as far as damage from spells goes.
The big problem in pve is that a huge chunk of the dps for an elemental shaman comes from the fire elemental. The 2 piece set bonus for T12 raid gear is basically eternal fire elemental. The way the fire elemental works is that it takes a snapshot of your spellpower when it's activated, and it retains that value for it's entire uptime (even if you lose those buffs 3 seconds after it being cast). So flametongue weapon does have quite an effect on the fire elemental dps, just like trinket procs, tinkers, weapon procs & pots. With the 2p gone and no change in the patch notes gone for the fire elemental, it's gonna take indeed a higher number of spell power to maintain the same dps, based on the 2p & 4p T13 set. But that's basically only affecting pve, since fire elemental & raid gear are a non issue in arena.
So for pvp it's nowhere near the number you outline, though there is obviously a conversion point.

I dunno CL just doesn't hit very hard on targets with resilience. I bet a single healer could keep a 4 melee team alive long enough to kill your shaman
I recently respecced into EQ, and seen alot more cleave dmg from my side. Ive seen warriors being on 70 % by simply keeping EQ up, while focusing another target. I personaly cant wait for the spammable CL on grouped up melee comps.
Keep EQ up, purge your targets, stress the enemy by using CL on melees, 4 x thunderstorm and earthbind, hex and use instants = profit :D

In my raid gear (mix between bis heroic and bis 378 gear) I would already profit from the change as far as damage from spells goes.
however I'm doing more damage with that 1k spellpower than with the new flametongue on ptr

With the 4.3 patch we'll be introducing some changes to the way Valor Points (VP) are obtained, as well as the items that they can purchase.
Changes coming in 4.3:
Looking for Dungeon — 150 VP per run, with a cap of seven runs per week. All Cataclysm heroic dungeons introduced in 4.0, 4.1, and 4.3, will provide 150 Valor per run.
Looking for Raid — 250 VP per run, with a cap of 500 per week. The 4.3 raid, Dragon Soul, will be split into two separate raids for the Raid Finder. While individual bosses do not drop Valor when using the Raid Finder, you will receive 250 Valor for completing each Dragon Soul raid. Each boss will only drop loot for you once per week, but you will continue to get the 250 Valor for completing each Raid Finder raid, up to the 500 cap.
10 player raid boss — 115 VP. There are nine bosses per week, counting Baradin Hold.
25 player raid boss — 135 VP. There are nine bosses per week, counting Baradin Hold.
Valor Points cap at 1000 per week.
As you acquire Valor you'll want to spend it, and vendors will be offering a wide range of items to equip you to take on the Dragon Soul raid encounters, including cloaks, rings, ranged weapons, necklaces, trinkets, chest pieces, helms, gloves, bracers, boots, and belts, all of which are ilvl 397.
Our goal with these changes is to move Valor back to the original intent of currency rewards as a consolation prize, for two main reasons: to make it less frustrating when you keep having bad luck getting an item you want from a particular boss, and to help encourage you to keep fighting bosses (and helping out the rest of your group) even if that particular boss didn’t drop anything for your character in particular. Over time we have also offered Valor as a reward for doing other activities (such as participating in Heroic 5-player dungeons) to provide players something to do on an off night or when they couldn’t raid.
In the past we have offered some tier pieces on the Valor vendor for players that just couldn’t justify the time or logistics necessary to participate in raids, but we’re hoping that the introduction of the Raid Finder tool helps remove that barrier. We think most players would agree that killing a giant monster and looting its corpse is more exciting than slowly farming a currency to purchase a reward. Currencies have their place, but we want them to be a secondary avenue of progression to boss killing.
While the Raid Finder will provide a lower difficulty for the Dragon Soul raids, and thus a lower ilvl of gear, the normal 10 and 25 raids will drop ilvl 397, with the final Deathwing encounters dropping ilvl 403. For the Heroic version, 10 and 25 will drop ilvl 410, and the Heroic Deathwing encounters will drop ilvl 416 loot.
As we near the release of 4.3 we’ll be posting everything you need to know about the Valor to Justice down-conversion process, so stay tuned.
Interesting changes, glad they got rid of having to do the Zul dungeons for max valor.

Looks like a chance to get 4.3 next week.
Arena and Rated Battleground Season 10 is scheduled to end as early as November 15. At that point we will determine who is eligible for the end-of-season rewards, a process that should take approximately one week. It's very important for players who feel that they may be eligible for Arena titles and/or the Vicious Gladiator’s Twilight Drake to refrain from transferring their characters to another realm or faction until after Season 10 ends. During the break between seasons, all Rated Battleground and Arena matches will be unavailable.
At the end of the season, Conquest Points will be converted to Honor Points, possibly exceeding the 4,000 point Honor cap. All Season 10 items will cost Honor Points (equivalent to their previous Conquest Point cost) when the season ends, with the exception of any items with rating requirements attached. These items will no longer be available for purchase.
Please be aware that higher ilvl PvP items will be introduced and available for Honor points with patch 4.3.
The next Arena and Rated Battleground season will begin for level-85 players approximately one week after the end of Season 10 and will coincide with the awarding of Season 10 titles and mounts. At that time, any Honor accrued above the 4,000-point cap will be converted into gold at a rate of 35 silver per point. In addition, Season 11 rewards will be made available for purchase with Conquest Points awarded during the new season. Matchmaking Ratings will carry over when Season 11 begins, but all Team and Personal Ratings will be wiped.

As far as I recall the intention with the start of the current season was that:
a) you could take a max of 4k honor with you into the next season (from doing bg's, etc)
b) any conquest point you had left, was converted into extra honor, even if that would put you over the cap
Say you had 3900 honor at the start of the new season, and 4300 conquest points, it would mean that you should receive 7200 honor. And as long as you are above the 4k, you would not gain any extra honor from doing bg's.
They fucked up royally though and converted the conquest points into gold, rectifying this later by giving everyone 4k free honor.
The way I read it for the coming season is that thet step away from this and will converted conquest points that put you above the honor cap into gold, and not into extra honor.

so cap out on justice points (i have none), cap out on valor points (have like 5k atm, none for this week) cap out on honor and leave my conquest points (6k atm) ... and if I'm lucky that valor -> jp and conquest -> honor point i could be looking at 17k honor, i like the idea :D

Changes for Alchemy specializations are coming in the patch. If you're working on bringing up alchemists or like me, swapped specializations on some guys, you'll want to get them done before the patch -
http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/2551-Alchemy-Specialization-Cost-Increase-Deathwing-Event-Blue-Posts-MMO-Report
Patch 4.3: Alchemy Specialization Cost Increase
In Patch 4.3, Alchemy Specialization quests have been moved to the Alchemy trainers and the old quests have been removed. The three new quests and rough costs from Auction House prices for materials are:
Potion Master
Mythical Healing Potion x 6
Mythical Mana Potion x 6
Potion of Treasure Finding x 2
Total AH Materials Cost: 450g
Transmutation Master
Truegold x 4
Total AH Materials Cost: 2200g
Elixir Master
Flask of the Draconic Mind x 2
Flask of the Winds x 2
Flask of Steelskin x 2
Flask of Titanic Strength x 2
Total AH Materials Cost: 900g
Kedash00
11-12-2011, 11:27 AM
wouldn't AH prices be based on player base?
I can see them controlling vendor prices but AH is player set pricing, which they dont control.
I am hung over so i may be missing something, but i just dont get how they can say AH prices are going to go up when we control it.

The post wasn't about the AH prices going up, the post was about the change in Alchemy specialization. Right now, becoming a Potions, Elixirs of Transmute Master requires Burning Crusade stuff and is pretty cheap, especially if you do the Potions quest and pay the 150g to swap to Transmute, since Healing and Mana pots drop like candy, so all you need to make is Dreamless Sleep potion.
After the patch, it's going to use Cata stuff, which is going to make it cost more to chose a specialization. There's also rumors going around that you won't have the option to just swap for gold like you can now. People are saying that you unlearn the spec then provide the appropriate items to change. But, I'm not on PTR to check and it's always possible that they simply haven't added swapping in yet.

4.3 Battleground Conquest Rewards

In patch 4.3 we’re changing the daily battleground (BG) to reward 100 conquest for a win (up from 25). In addition, every non-rated BG that you win will also give you 50 conquest. There is no limit to how many BGs you can run this way, up to the normal conquest cap.
Our intent is to start acting even more on our Mists of Pandaria philosophies of encouraging players to approach the content they want to, how they want to, and be able to work toward meaningful player progression. Arenas and rated battlegrounds will still earn Conquest faster, but with this change you can now work your way up by running normal BGs, if you so choose.
This basically kills off 2v2 arena. A real nice change though.

I took a good ass reaming on that conversion deal. The only good that came out of it is I no longer pvp for the latest greatest carrot on a stick.

I still think most people are missing the fact that valor points and conquest points will be turned into justice points and honor, even above the 4k cap. I'll have 4k honor, 4k justice points, 6k valor points and 8k conquest points. So after the patch hits I'll have 12k honor, and 10k justice points. You obviously have to use up honor first before you can convert justice points into honor, but in total it's gonna be around 18.5k honor I get while a full suit costs something like 23;5k if I recall correct (minuts the weapons). So that is something like 5k to grind on patch day.

You obviously have to use up honor first before you can convert justice points into honor, but in total it's gonna be around 18.5k honor I get while a full suit costs something like 23;5k if I recall correct (minuts the weapons). So that is something like 5k to grind on patch day.
Yeah if you really want a jump you can bank everything like I did last season. Just pray they don't fubar the conversion and turn it into gold like they did last time. I lost many thousands of honor when they messed up the conversion. After the error last season I would say bank at your own risk. Goodluck!
You are saying it like it's a new change. Blizz have been doing this new set of gear every major patch for like 3 and a half years now.
Getting tired of the whole "I worked hard to get the best gear now I have to do it all over again," welcome to WoW, you new?
I think your confusing what happened. The people who purchased pvp gear before they changed the ilevel received honor compensation. The thing I am talking about is when they made an error with the conversions. Instead of letting the conquest points give honor above the 4k cap like they stated, the system mistakenly converted anything above 4k to 35 silver. So anyone who would have had 10K+ honor (like me) lost it all and received 35 silver instead. Banking points is a great way to get a jump on gear but with last seasons screw up it's very risky.

I'm pretty sure I read, that after the season ends, they are converting all CP to honour, and it stays above the cap. You then get a week to spend it for when the new season hits, they are converting everything above the cap into gold/silver.
I will try to find it.
IN SHORT:
1. Season ends
2. CP turns into HP, can go above the 4k limit, but can't earn any more until you spend it.
3. The season 10 CP gear will be buyable with HP
4. ONE WEEK PASSES
5. New arena season
6. Anything above 4k HP gets turned into gold
7. Gear, better than season 10 CP gear (from point 3) will be buyable with HP.
8. Season 11 gear better than the new HP gear will be buyable with CP.
Last season, a LOT of people got pissed because they bought all the old CP gear with honour, BEFORE the NEW honour gear got released, making them farm 23k honour AGAIN.

Pinot is talking about when last season ended and Blizzard screwed up the conversion.

As MiRai said I am talking about last season. They actually made two mistakes. First they turned the extra to 35silver before letting the one week pass. Next they changed the gear on the honor vendor to 371. They compensated people who purchased any gear but said sorry for the conversion. That's why I was saying bank your points at your own risk. I did it last season and had my extra points turned to silver with their mistake.

I see. Lets hope they don't screw up again then. Though I probably won't be bothering with "banking points." Doesn't take too long to grind out honour and I will probably be working when the patch is close to coming out. At least everyone will know about the ilvl change this time too, I know that upset a lot

So does LFR have a minimum ilvl to use it? I was hearing 372, but no one could say where they heard it. Also can PvP gear be used to circumvent that? I hope they wont let you join if even once piece has resilience...
