View Full Version : 5 boxing on a single monitor - 30" or TV's?

Hi,

I've been boxing for years on multiple monitors. Currently running two split screen, each with two clients and one main. Lately it's starting to bug me having to deal with the awkward view angle and the issues with SLI and multiple monitors. Even with the smaller monitors mounted and lined up as close as they can be, it's not as comfortable as a single screen would be. Plus, the smaller side screens are pretty much useless for anything aside from boxing.

Wondering if anyone has tried 5-boxing a split window layout on either a high res 30" (Dell U3011, etc) or a larger 1080p TV?

I used a samsung 32inch that looked horrible, the resolution wouldn't match up right, switched to a 37 inch vizeo and it's awesome. 1080p of course. that's just my main screen, i have 4 22inch actual monitors for the reset but i dont ever look at them hardly.

But for the TV, make sure you get one that has the proper resolution settings or it will look crappy.

I would use multiple monitors honestly. I have a 30" Dell and its just ok.

I 5-box on a 30" monitor with them all at full screen, overlapping. With ISboxer, I rarely need to see anything on my slave screens.

I use a 32" samsung tv with 1 large window on top with 4 smaller ones underneath and I love it. I occasionally wish I had a 2nd screen (same type) for the slaves, but Its certainly overkill and a waste of hydro imo. My screen does PiP so I can watch cable during those mind numbing boosting sessions.

a monitor would give you better resolution (2550x1600) opposed to a TV (1920x1080) = more room for multiple instances of wow.

I run 2 monitors myself, a 27" (2550x1440) for the slaves and a 22" (1920x1080) for the main - the 22" is positioned on top of the 27", takes some getting used to but works ok

When I moved across that country and had to sell all my stuff (PC and monitors ) I thought I would really miss my 2x 24inch monitor setup. Since i am rebuilding my life over here on the east coast, my budget has been tight. I new I would need a laptop first, so thats what I have to play on. I also thought I would never be content 5 boxing on a laptop. But Now that I have been doing it for 4 months or so, I do not even notice the absence of a larger screen or an extra one for my slaves. When i do build a new PC, I know I will be more than happy with one monitor this time. Ill get a 27 inch ( 30s are still too expensive IMO )

Using the full screen, stacked, window layout+ video overlays is more than enough to keep track of the slaves 8)

the current 1080p TV is not remotely close to what 30 inch monitor can offer. You can simplly tell by looking at the price. 32 inch TV is only like 500 bucks where 30 inch monitor is 1k+. The bigger the TV, the worst it looks. and it is not just the resolution. Contrast and Color. The monitor is just much better.

I tried 2011 current gen 32inch 1080p 240 hz LED TV. and it doesn't look that good. It is acceptable, but not great. Another thing is if you put the TV in front of you (like how you look at the monitor), your eyes will tire out much faster than looking at a monitor. Its not designed to be viewed closed up.

30" monitor all the way. In fact, add a smaller secondary monitor (or two) for the ideal setup, imo.
