View Full Version : [WoW] Team Attrition

Multiboxers are the only ones who could appreciate this . . .
I was bored and playing with a resto-shaman telluric currents build. In i340 gear, I could pull 2.5-3k dps and if I burned heroism and fire elemental I could get that to 4-5k dps.
<Light Bulb>
After goofing around with specs and glyphs, I run a pally and 4 resto shaman. The pally does 50-60% of the damage (and seems to break recount, supposedly he is doing 6-14k dps a fight) while the shaman all pull 8-15% damage.
This makes for long fights, really long fights. BUT . . . the team never drops below 70% mana or 80% health. The tank rarely drops below 60%.
So, nearly unlimited mana and healing, weak dps, equals 1 button instances. I win by attrition, always topped off and slowly bleeding my targets dry. No CC in heroic grim batol (although the mechanics of the first boss are a little annoying, still working on tagging all the adds).
I still have some green gear and haven't reforged, enchanted or gemmed much yet. Still in the R&D phase. As my spirit/hit rating gets better I think heroic bosses are doable. I've already dropped 2. The shamans have so many passive healing skills that you have time to dps.
Anyway, it made me laugh.

Sounds good but don't bosses enrage after 5 minutes?

I have done 4 x resto shammies in AV ... it is attrition waiting for yoour 8 elemetentals to kill most of the alliance swarming you as you chain heal spam... was fun though healing 20+ people with spastic chainheal bolts going everywhere
Ona different note were you running flametongue weapon on any of them or all with earthliving?

I haven't noticed any heroic bosses enraging, but i've only done 2 bosses so far. I'm mostly farming gold atm to get some upgrades and some alts into epic flying.
I use earthliving weapon on all 4. With that, riptide and unleash elements I never have to use any other heals. Rarely does the group need heals since the 4 totems do about 5k per tick.
I've also played around with 2 resto and 2 elem, like my old posts, to speed things up.
I've found that 4 resto is a mindless way to brute force trash and then I sometimes change specs depending on the boss. The endless mana and endless heals means you don't even have to dance on trash.
I haven't done any real pvp since tbc, but I was thinking about trying this out in there. I'd earthshield the 4 shaman and keep the pally as prot and slowly wear down people, but the lack of gear and the pain to get gear is keeping me in pve.
Personally, I find it hilarious making people used to instant killing really work 3-5 minutes to get a kill.

I don't think this would be very effective any BG besides EotS. While you're keeping a few busy, one or 2 more could cap the node you're defending. The main weakness of multiboxing is still there (handling multiple targets/tasks), and you would have also given up the main strength of multiboxing (quick, effective kills).

I'd agree, it's not an ideal pvp team. . . but the whole not dying thing is hilarious.
I'd do it just to watch people blow their cool downs, then their mana. Even if I couldn't kill them just absorbing everything they got in a stale mate would be fun. Endless heals, endless mana . . . breaks WoW in a lot of ways.
They would be thinking, "now what?" . . . and I'd be thinking, "exactly."
I'm at the point, bored again, where redefining an encounter and making it go by my terms is entertaining. People want to pvp? Good luck, cause I can't kill you and you can't kill me :-)
I may give this a shot, if I have some time. I'm curious how badly geared I could be and how long I could survive. The comic factor would be magnified by gear whores seeing my crappy blues.
Taking down heroic bosses with 4 healers . . . that shouldn't be possible but it makes me laugh.

I haven't been playing since January but this kind of group technique is the kind of thing I like. Start with 4 resto's and as you get gear you can switch to 3 then 2 then one resto. Just imagining what 4 riptides would look like on a tank. If I resub I will try this out on my shaman team. Since I am still in wotk it will be an easier experiment than top level content.

Now you've got me wanting to mess with my 2x Holy Paladin idea. Now I'm thinking Tank (probably DK), 2x Holy Paladins and 2x Arcane Mages basically just Arcane Blast spamming. Keep Beacon of Light up on both Mages at all times.
