Hi everyone, I know this is a little pre-emptive as i haven't even hit anywhere close to 70 yet :) but I've been wondering about pvp when I hit 70 and how i might do in Arena.. It seems to me that it is essential to have at least some good gear as a 5ele setup to perform well. but seeing as i won't, I've been wondering about 5 resto shammies.. Resto has far superior survivability (5 earthshields = nuts).

one could still unleash the old NS + chain combo and with the change to LB cast times you should be able to get some fired off.

in your experience has it been a great hindrance to go 5 ele as soon as you hit 70? or did you overcome the initial problems quickly?

or would 4 ele + 1 resto suffice?

5 earthshields is far from nuts, but with 5 resto you're not gonna kill anyone. And you cant outheal an arenateam...for long anyway.

You'll last a long time, but you won't be able to stop the enemy from drinking.. and since you aren't a big threat they can certainly stop you from drinking which basically means you lose. But, you'd be a really obnoxious opponent nonetheless ;)

you cant outlast people when 5 boxing, as soon as you get fearbombed youre toast.

so you have to use an insta-gib playstyle.

Yeah healers pretty much fucked me over on the tourny PTRs; any group with healers was a loss usually, if their dps wasn't retarded(Like the warr in my "owned" screenshot forum thread); them and Rogues stunlocking the main while running behind the alts so their casts couldn't do diddly

Get one shammy, hunter, felpuppy, priest, mage.... any sort of dispell.... you'd start falling one by one. Without earthshield, you won't get 100% pushback resist, and your survivability goes down the tubes.

Not to mention interrupts. Please don't get me started on interrupts.

I just thought of a cracking idea, whilst in preperation stack all your +heals +dmg totems and everything and earth shield up. Then swap over to your dps gear before the game starts. Having fully buffed +heals means that your earthsield will tick for more.
Go in nature swift, trinket CL and surely you can take down some opposition.

by the way, you havent been able to change gear in arena since 2.3.

before the doors open you can change gear? Unless they changed that too

well you would have to go Resto spec in elemental gear since without burst dmg you lose by default, so your heals wouldn't be PvE quality and your earthshields would get dispelled by clever macros almost instantly bu smart groups. id say you would hit a ceiling at around 1200-1300 since any 1500 reteams will destroy you.

what WOULD be interesting, is 4 resto Shamans and a Ret Pally =) give him WF and watch him kill everything in a BG =) maybe not arena, but BG maybe =)

Yes, you can still change gear up until the doors open. Main hand, off hand, and ranged weapons can still be swapped after the doors open. Just think of the door opening as putting you in permanent combat in regards to gear swapping, anything you can't swap in combat, you can't swap once the arena game begins.

I wouldn't be surprised if they change this at some point, I can put an ES on myself with over 3200 healing via trinkets and raid gear before the gate opens, and then switch to full PvP gear. Heals me for 1200 something per tic, which is nice against the few teams with no offensive dispell.

hmm, thanks for the feedback ppl :)
I guess the main reason I was considering it was as a way to bypass the sheer crappieness of my gear when I'll be hitting 70 ^^ that said I think I will be using one as resto for the beginning, need to practice using Earthshield on the right targets, so 4 dps and 1 healer :)
Eventually I want to run this arena with two of my friends.. me with 4 shammies and then taking up the last spot, unfortunately ofc they don't have a healing class, otherwise we'd be on easy street, but I guess practising doing both the healing an d dps will be an interesting mix :)
