hrm... i dont understand what you are saying, but am interested in knowing what you mean.
if you are referring to using abilities and action bars and the trinity style gameplay, then I do not see how you can say that it is copying wow... as wow took these idea's from another game as well. people need to stop saying wow clone and things of that nature, as it is pretty much industry standard, not wow copying.
if that is all you are seeing then, this game is not for you, and i respect your choice :)
I am looking forward to:
multiple decisions in quest, and your choices actually changing the story and gameplay for you
an actual immersive story that is more readily available, not saying wow doesnt have one, it is just poorly implemented.
a universe that I have loved as a kid, and look forward to seeing grow
fresh models and animations
difficutly actively scaling with party/operation size
lightsabers.
I understand that this game is not for everyone, but it is in no way a wow clone or rip off. Wow was not the first game to have quest. Wow was not the first game to have action bars. Wow was not the first game to have humanoid avators representing the player. wow was not the first game to use color. wow was not the first game to have text. wow was not the first game to have currency. wow was not the first game to have instances. wow was not the first game to have races and classes. wow was not the first game to have skill trees. wow was not the first game to have monsters. wow was not the first game to have a login screen. wow was not the first game to run on a PC and a Mac. wow was not the first game to have NPCs. wow was not the first game to have people play together with a common goal. wow was not the first game to have healing or tanks.
pretty much what WoW did was take an allready defined genre and make it more accessible and much more appealing. other games can do that too.
WoW fanboism is pretty harsh, but coming in and saying simply
WORLD OF STAR WARS CRAFT HUERRRRP DERRRRPPP without providing one ounce of backing evidence through which a constructive arguement could be created is simply pointless.
Hence my...
um no.
Thank you for your time.

Well, the female has a shadow and it looks fine but, she's the only one... which is kinda weird. However, they
look like they're in a cave anyway so... really we should be complaining that since they're in a cave the chick
shouldn't have a shadow.

lol. it actually looks pretty good, damn good. i put the graphics at less than tera but better than aion.
the shadows look fine IMO. especially in the playing footage. they are great silhouettes, they stretch and transform over objects and change in elevation. the texturing doesnt become distorted under it.
I just don't see your complaint. could you please give me the exact times with the bad shadows brother man? I want to see if I see what you are seeing!

Actually, if you look closely, they all have them. when lighting effects ignite near them, or land on them, you can see them. lighted objects in passing dont seem to cause ray tracing, which is really nothing to be alarmed at, no current generation game uses realtime sub object ray tracing.... but when they do, turn on the sexy. rift does a great job with lighting in my opinion, simply amazing, and i hate that game :P

Look...
...they're in a cave and we don't need any shadows in a cave. Shadows in a cave with low light make it a blatantly terrible game
and I won't be buying it because of this.

I won't say wow clone since it probably adds some good stuff from a story perspective, but man MMOs now days are so been there done that. Everytime I see a new MMO now days I don't see cool swords/armor/weapons...etc I see numbers, stats, and an equipment grind as a method of true long term progression.
Now with star wars old repulic, doesnt look like much changes in that but the story aspect might bring questing to a new level we havn't seen before which could be great since i've heavily enjoyed the bioware starwars games for their story. So if I get a mmo wrapped in a single player bioware game of similar quality ill be happy for a while.
I am skeptical they can pull it off, but its bioware, master of story telling games. I also HEAVILY ADMIT that i really just want to multibox a bunch of sith. People can get angry but ill just respond back that the sith are evil bastards who devot themselves to finding powerfull ways to kill you heh

Pretty much spot on. I don't think wow clone is even a valid term with any game. the ENTIRE genre is cast in a mold and I think the level of story telling will push other developers to push other areas, and some new blood will be welcome in the waters.
And I too am planning on boxing a group of sith... just sounds sexy ;)

My only response to this game (and its kind of a lollore response) is... I dont get how normal people are supposed to compare to the jedi?
Say I'm a top level "soldier" (i forget exactly the heavy weapons dudes class name)... so whats that indicate? I know some nice tricks, i am a really good shot with my weapon, and i have access to additional equipment.
Whats to stop a level 1 jedi from coming over and force choking me or force pushing me off a cliff or something? If I get the drop on them, OK but other than that....
Thats what ive never understood about these star wars games.

Yeah, thats understandable and I see how that can be the general view by people, and the movies kind of portrayed the jedi and sith as jesus and ronald mcdonald, two baddest mother fuckers in town.
But if you start to read all of the story and all that, not just the hollywood block busters it kinda of sets the tone that yes force sensitive people are great warriors, but so are bounty hunters and troopers and the agents an things of the like. in other forms of star wars lore standard jedi and sith were equal and par with other forms of awesomeness...
now dark lords and fluffybunny Jedi, they are very powerful, those were your emperor, and vader and luke... kind of like the uh.. i cant think of the wow dudes... i will say OrcBoss#1 and AllianceLeader#3.
It's there if you dig deep enough, but some people just arent in to star wars lore, they just saw the movies and thought meh thats kinda dumb, and thats totally ok.
I recommend reading the lost tribe of the sith, and perhaps like star wars: the old republic: deceived IF you want to get a handle on the lore.
If not, then may the uh... azeroth... be with you :D

There you go MiRai, shadows galore ;P
Great source of lore which explains a lot of balance understanding between normal people and the Jedi/Sith are the old D6 Star RPG books, from WEG (who is no longer around). I think wizards makes the new rpg books which have some of the old stuff just adapted to their style. They are great reads, and explain a lot.

What is to stop a mage/magic user in WOW from throwing a frost/firebolt at at warrior from 90 yards and just killing him in one shot? The melee guy has no way to stop that with his shield or armor.....Wait...
He can spell reflect, he can get in range since magic users have a range on their spells, can use intercept/charge and pummel. Hmm, things that might not be in normal nature, but are in the game. Same thing for this. Mabye in theory a jedi can do stuff that would insta-gank you, but in game, there are time limits on the time for choke. And you have to build up power (think combo points or rage or runic power) to use force push. Then things can make sense in game that might not in theory only.

Answer your own question Electron, Im not familiar enough with Star Wars lore. I am one of those "only seen the movies" folks.
Whats to stop that from happening in WoW? The abilities that they've provided within the universe for warriors.
Perhaps the same is true for Star Wars, I am admittedly ignorant of deep lore (can only go by what Ive seen).
I never saw anything to indicate that if Luke wanted to (say he "went to the dark side") he couldn't have destroyed any number of Han Solos.
Im not anti star wars at all im just saying. Im not even a really big "story" or lore guy, not the type to let something like that stop me from playing a game. I just dont get it (especially from a game that it touting its enhanced stories as a feature).
I hope its awesome and me bringing this up seems foolish in hindsight.

Chewy would have bashed Luke's brains across the room while Luke was choking Solo.

LOL, I love that.
Yeah, in theory people can do stuff that seems overpowered. But the game will have rulesets and conditions that stop that. What stops a rogue from just backstabbing you every .001 secs and you die.. Well, GCD is one thing, and his energy is another. I haven't played SWTOR yet. But imagine that a jedi has a energy bar just like a rogue. Imagine that a jedi can do powers, but only after he charges up something with smaller spells (think ramp up time with WOW chars), similar to rogue's combo points.
Imagine that a bounty hunter (ranged and jumping ability) could just jump up and keep attacking you, but you can't jump up and hit him (you are melee). He could just kite you and kill you. Yeah, that can happen, it is a counter to you, but you are probably a counter to something else. At least that is how I hope they do things. SW Galaxies supposedly had a OP class (jedi) and that didn't work out so well. WOW has even had times with classes OP. I just hope they notice it and fix it.
For me, it feels different than WOW. It has a different playstyle (choose good or bad). Maybe I am just deluding myself and can't spell, so good and bad in SWTOR is just rep from WOW. Same thing just spelled differently. How they respond to things that people want is what matters to me. 6 Years to get an "apperance tab" is too long. 6 years to get a LFR interface is too long. 6 Years to allow crazy more storage is too long. I hope SWTOR can make changes faster.

I was at gamescom thursday but sadly din`t play this game. 3hour line is a bit to much lol. Still better then the 4+ for d3 haha
I did however got the chance to play guildwars2 pvp twice. That game is just freaking fucking awesome. GW2 will be huge. TOR will allways make money as well. Enough fanboys around. However I think when it comes to new a new mmo for the general public GW2 is the title.
