So far my most fun melee group experience are 5 DKs (or 4 DK+healer) all going blood tanks sharing aggro. Can the same be done with tank paladins? Or will a tank pally have much worse dps than a DK tank since they must wear a shield and DK don't need one? Will I get trouble killing mobs with a tank pally group?

Well obviously prot pal is a defensive powerhouse.

Offesively well ... 5 glyphed and talented consecrations will do some solid damage to non boss mobs I am sure.

Well obviously its going to take awhile to kill things but with shared agro I doubt any of your guys is going to die. I guess if you factor in the fact you never have to do corpse runs overall kill rate goes up.

You just can't beat the tank/healer/3dps combo for 5 guys ...

Check out eletist jerks and see if you would be better with 1prot/1holy/3ret and how much damage they do comapered to yoru dk group.

I ran 5 protadins up through 85 and basically hit a brick wall in NORMAL level 85 instances. With the huge nerfs to pally healing-while-DPSing in 4.0 and later patches, they just aren't the uberness they once were.

In what way did you hit a brick wall? Due to lack of damage output against bosses, or lack in healing while being prot?

Would otherwise 4 retribution sharing aggro + a healer be possible? Or will they take to much damage due to lack of shield?

A protection paladin is among the classes who can do the highest dmg in the game in a single cooldown. In pvp I've globalled a season 10 geared dk, thats right 2 spells and no berserker buff. The problem is that you rely a lot on vengeance to do damage. And before yesterday it used to take a while before vengeance stacked. Now with a short taunt rotation you should be able to keep vengeance up on all prot pallies. But you rely on your holy power to dps, so a healer might be wise.

If it's just for fun and try something different, 4 prots + healer can work now in pve when you stack vengeance. Though there is a lot of micromanagement involved to do good dps.

But if you have 4 pallies, nothing really beats 1 prot + 3 ret + healer. If the encounter is too hard you can still go 2 prot, 1 healer, 2 ret or 1 prot 2 healer 2 ret until you have enough gear.

I just keep having the feeling that melee pve is a bitch to deal with. It seems that there are teams good in pvp and teams good in pve. Maybe druids are in the middle of that but they have lack of cc in hc`s.

I myself, am looking for some middleground team. It seems that the melee teams are just terrible in pve.

I was however, always wondering how holypala+4 prots would do in pvp lol

I know some were playing some shockadins but think they were only mid-level toons. Anyone ever get some at level 79-85 for higher level PVP?

Damage was definitely down from pre-4.0 levels (relatively speaking) but the biggest problem was the reductions in healing from the nerfs to Seal of Light and Word of Glory.

Instead of going protection on any of them, would it be possible having 4 retribution sharing aggro + a healer?

You may as well spec one prot. He will be able to take damage better than a ret and put less stress on heals.

This. To be more precise, bouncing aggro is tricky and prone to error. Furthermore, one good prot tank can absorb more effective damage than 4 rets combined. Eventually, the content you're doing will outstrip your healer's ability to keep up. That threshold is a LOT higher with a prot tank than with rets.
