What exactly does the 24-hour heroic instance lockout do?

I got my team to 80, and i've started working on Glory of the Hero. Whenever i first go into an instance, it says there's a lockout (today it was 18 hours when i was doing it).

If i clear the instance, i can't requeue for the instance through the tool, but if i wait a while i can go to the instance directly and the mobs respawned.

Is the purpose of the lockout to prevent the use of the tool? Are the bosses not respawned? What exactly does the lockout do?

I'm confused.

It's there so you can't continuously farm that particular dungeon. As far as I know, you can make it back to
that dungeon again if you get lucky (or unlucky) through the Dungeon Finder.

if you don't kill the final boss, you can continuously reset, right? I'll be testing that shortly.

Yep. figured that out. All the mobs are there except bosses. they're gone.

If you use the random heroic dungeon finder you can get a fresh copy of the instance (including bosses) on the same day. It is just down to luck, really.

So are you using cata greens to help get these achievements or sticking with all lich king gear for the purpose of your challenge? Good luck either way!

The tank is wearing the Cata hardened obsidium set, but the others are mainly in Wrath gear.

What I had been hoping to do was to run one dungeon over and over since I don't have much experience in any of them. Then I'd be able to go for all of the achievments for that dungeon at the same time as many times as it took.

I guess now I'll just do them through the tool. Oh well.
